  1. While i respect Meyer, he really has no idea why Bo and Solich where fired. He seems to think they were both fired for the W/L record. He isnt accustom to a university the demands you represent them in a positive light. Solich and his personal relationships where not painting NU in a positive light. Bo and his brothers actions did not represent the university in a positive manner. While a Meyer is a great coach, common sense isnt his strong area.

All them NFL receivers Ron coached over that 20 years............

Isn't Davis considered one of the most promising hires on the staff?

There is "promise" and there are results. Look at the collegiate offenses and skill players Ron Brown had a hand in coaching over the years...

...now do the same for Davis.

Now, which one looks more successful, judging by the results in most every way that they can be measured?

Really guys, how many gallons of Kool-Aid does one have to chug to ignore what we have seen in Brown's 24 years as a coach so you can buy into the notion that someone being labeled as "promising" is an upgrade?

You guys can have the last word on this one.

all them NFL receivers Ron coached over that 20 years......
You have to cut the guy some slack there. We were running the option offense where our WR were lucky to catch 1-2 balls per game. They were spending most of their time blocking.
so is he fit to coach receivers in an offense to the philosophy predicated on a hell of a lot more passing than what we did in the 80s and 90s? You proved my point. Thank you.

Umm, he went from the option to the spread, and coached the sh#t out fo the TE's and the RB's. So he has taught three different offensive positions in two different offense philosophies.... AND SUCCEEDED!

you're proving a lot of points... :sarcasm

  4. I dont agree with Ron's religious beliefs, but you cant ignore the success of the players he has coached. I dont care if he was from the Callahan era, the guy can motivate and coach. Ya, he sucks at recruiting. While i would love to see them find a spot for him, its not the end of the world.

fwiw, i think this "lack" of an offer has more to do with Perlman, than it does Riley. Perlman sour on TO quickly after all the Bo issues, and the hits to his ego from all the boosters siding with TO. No evidence of this, just a feeling.

  5. Funny thing is the narrative will be...

10 or 11 wins = Riley is next Saban

9 wins = at least he is a nice 9 win coach

8 or fewer wins = look at how much "poison" Bo left in this program (even though Bo himself never won 8 or fewer games)

I think it will be more like...

10 or 11 wins = If Bo had been here, he could have done that with this years shedule, OR this is all Bo's players and talent, etc.

9 wins = Why did we fire Bo again?

8 or fewer wins = FIRE HIM and hire Bo back!

i just don't see Banker as the defensive answer to what ails us........he has a lot of experience but is far from a guru...nonetheless if he can develop a decent run defense, that would help.......can't stand to see teams gash us in the running game.

The last guru we had gave up 408 yards to one player...

Not sure what's so negative about my comments. Just pointing out that if this guy was really any good he wouldn't be at Uconn or Cincinnati. Seems to be a life long average coach.

Over the last few weeks, you have shown to have potential as a lifelong below average poster. You have added nothing to any discussion except that all the hires suck. It is clear you don't support anything. Please take it to the the Youngstown board Kaz.

Why is it ok for the sunshine pumpers to get excited over nothing (what some considered lackluster hires). But when someone isnt impressed, the sunshine pumpers jump all over him, calling him "not a fan", "go follow Bo", etc. I wanted Bo and his staff of HS coaches gone 3 years ago..... and i am very underwhelmed by the several of Riley's hires. This is no different than the Bo pumpers saying we had injuries, wait till next year, we dont have talent here yet, blah blah blah - and calling people names and degrading them because they didnt support Bo..... we know how that turned out.

Redder, they have an ignore function! Try using it next time instead of proving what most of us already thought about you.

The thing is if this defense becomes salty and a top tier unit on the stat sheet then the big names will give us more attention because of that. I think this has fabulous potential. And honestly a few years of Riley he gets success many he rides off into thr sunset and hands off the reigns to Langsford.

That helps, but it isn't enough to guarantee good recruiting. 2009 and 2010 were very good Defenses that didn't lead to top tier recruiting. I think the pieces are on the roster to have a really good D over the next couple of seasons, I also think

I think there is talent, but we need to find a rush end and better speed at LB……. depth is an issue

I think our LB issues had more to do with coaching and scheme. Look at Will Compton and Eric Martin! Both are on NFL teams, but were said to be too slow when they played here. The only successful LB in Pelleni's era was L David, and that dude was a freak. David would have been a monster on any team. Again, I think we have talent at LB, we just need a decent LB coach and a scheme that allows them to play faster.

  9.

This is why really, really smart people get paid a lot of money to make really, really high impact decisions. Each decision effects a lot of people. Especially huge decisions like firing a 9 win a year coach.

Just stop with the 9 win thing. 9 wins simply means you win less than 70% of your games. Not exactly something to brag about. TO won 83% of his games, he can [won't] brag all he wants.

Apparently, to some people, beating up on lesser quality opponents makes you good.

  10. DL was one of our strongest positions, and he also had very good DL lines at Iowa (NFL guys). And people say he can't coach. Ah, yeah that makes sense.

If that werent absurd enough, Barney Cotton may have been the most hated coach here over the last few years, and now after the bowl performance, people are signing his praises.

The only thing that's consistent here is that some posters think they have all the answers.

    Oh the irony!

nu gave up a bunch of yards, and no running game..nu cannot run against the better teams, not sure why . one critical moment for nu was that 4th down play, armstrong tried to force that pass into a crowd.

    Its called poor S&C.

    No, its called poor coaching.

Did you watch the game? SC was bigger & stronger and we looked like the pillsbury dough boys. We have been soft for years, nothing like the Huskers of old underneath Eppley.

I think that has more to do with motivation and wanting to play hard/be tough. Our D and Oline loosing its toughness is a coaching issue, IMO.

  12. Players can have all the strength and explosiveness in the world. Getting them to use it (motivating) is a totally different issue. I think more of the sloppy play and lack of effort/looking tired had more to do with the team attitude and leadership (or lack of). Dobson is a good trainer, he just was loyal to the wrong person and decided to go down with the sinking ship.

They better keep Brown. That dude produced two guys mentioned on Heisman list at RB, and a Mackey candidate when he was the TE coach. I understand the OC may want to bring his own guys, but it would be a huge loss to not retain Brown.

If we could get Brown to recruit like he coaches I agree with you

I think the ability to develop a player is much more valuable asset than recruiting one. We know firsthand that getting some good recruits doesn't mean squat if we cant develop it. Have him recruit the midwest area. Most of the new staff will know nothing about Nebraska and the boarder states.
