  1. Forgive me if this has been said....but....

I was reading all the other threads. I find it odd to hire a coach without really any kind of interview process. What was that conversation like? Hey want a job....Maybe....it's Nebraska....OK.

Part of me thinks that he hired this coach because he wants him to only win 7 games for a bit. I know that sounds crazy...but by then other great coaches will forget the "I fired the 9 wins per season" guy. Then they might want to come in here and try to build a Champion. At that point it might be too late and the damage has been done...dont you think we have hurt long enough since Clown - a - han.

Problem I have is that great coaches figure out how to win no matter what their talent or circumstance (Duke, Baylor, Kstate, heck even Kansas at one point). Please don't point to his bowl wins....winning the independence bowl and the hawaii bowl can be done with the old staff. Just because this guy has access to more resources does not mean he will be any different.

I want to eat crow so much...but I just do not see the next 5 years being very nice to us Husker fans. Please let me be wrong

With that said...i will be sitting on my couch come the first game next year..and cheering on my team no matter what my feelings of the hire. GBR!!!!!!

    Babbling off!

  2.

at the least he heals the player/fan rift.......one step at a time, weedhopper! cleaning up after Bo will be no small task.

Sorry I guess I just don't think Bo is leaving much of a mess. Plenty of talent in the cupboard. The fanbase is a mess but I don't blame Bo for that, I blame Al Gore for inventing the internet. If anything he is leaving big shoes to fill considering what Riley brings to the table record wise.

I think that's it's clear that the culture in the program needs to be cleaned up, It is toxic. Not sure if that will really happen until Harv is gone, but at least this guy will have Harv's approval stamp.

But it's clear that this guy walks into a much better situation than Bo did, better talent across the board, no crapahan stench, no,change of conferences. Etc.

but doesn't that also mean, if, heaven forbid, he goes 6-6 he's in deeper sh*t than Bo would have been?

Yes, if Riley goes 6-6 next season it would be a disappointment. Still have to give the guy a few years though unless he completely derails the program. (4-8 or worse!?). From what I've read about him today (limited info so far I admit), I would expect more upside potential. Maybe we'll see 10-2 next regular season!

  3.

Before Bo got fired, some guys at work and I were looking at the 2015 schedule and thought there was a very good possibility that given the way the team played this year, they would likely go 7-5 next season. So in my opinion, if Riley goes 7-5 next year it would not be a huge deal, and if he goes 8-4 or better it is an improvement! I'm hoping he can do MUCH better than that, which is all up-side! Here was our prediction for Bo next season if he were still coaching:

    W - BYU

    W - South Alabama

    L - @ Miami

    W - Southern Miss

    W - @ Illinois

    L - Wisconsin

    L - @ Minnesota

    W - Northwestern

    W - @ Purdue

    L - Michigan St

    W - @ Rutgers

    L - Iowa

We went back and forth on that Iowa prediction but it seems the road team has the edge in that series, so we gave Iowa the win!

Not sure how fewer wins against almost the exact same schedule is an improvement.

Mav - That was my prediction on how BO would have done next year if he hadn't been fired.

  4.

    9~4 wasn't well received

It wasn't the quantity of wins, it was the quality of wins.

No question. But would this fan base look past a 7-6 season? I think next year he gets a pass, even with a favorable schedule.

But if he doesn't deliver by year 2, things heat up, imo.

  5. Thanks sock for providing us all some entertainment and camaraderie this week.

While we are all probably disappointed that JT hasn't been chosen as our savior, we can all admit that this thread brought us together and was a ton of fun!

Now, from everything I've been reading about our new head coach, it is obvious he is a true class act, a great and respected coach, and has the potential to do wonders at a program like Nebraska.

He deserves the full support of our fan base until he proves otherwise. It's our way! It's the Husker way! Best fans in the Nation!

    GBR!!!

  6. The Columbus airport is 2 hours 30min from Youngstown so I'm not sure why'd they'd be flying outta Columbus with The Vest unless they made a long ass round trip to and from youngstown.

Any idea where Tressel's agent lives? Columbus?

  7. Here is my theory: Jim Tressel will be the next head coach at the University of Nebraska. SE & JT have been working with the NCAA and have reached a settlement. JT will be suspended for the first 3 games of the regular season, with NO postseason ban. Took some time for them to get the NCAA on board with the postseason issue but they've finally agreed. NCAA will put Nebraska under a microscope for the next 3 seasons to ensure no violations of any kind are being committed, with severe penalties for anything that is uncovered. After the 3 year period, normal monitoring and penalties for violations will be back in place. Expect a press conference tomorrow with the announcement. I suspect SE will give JT the ability to choose his own staff, although I think there is a good chance that JT would be thrilled to have Frost on his team!

  8. Landscapes unlimited is not doing any golf course projects in ohio this time of year( highly doubt). Kublys plane flew to Columbus and Shawn met with OSU compliance to lawyer up about the NCAA sanctions and get more information. Tressel although working in Youngstown, probably still has a place in Columbus if I had to guess. I looked and landscapes has zero golf projects in Columbus right now. That plane went for a football coach! That plane went to see the SENATOR!

If true, he's probably in Columbus to talk to Tom Herman...
