I think it'll be Glenn...mainly because he'll get more carries. Marlon will be more of the big play back, like on those tosses out of the formation with trip WR's. I could also see a few end around type plays with him like we ran w/Thunder Collins. (Not comparing him to Thunder as far as personality at all though...) I just think Glenn will be able to take hit after hit better than Lucky. Glenn is more of a Big XII type back to me.

On the defense he said the biggest issue is the lack of experience at safety. He said USC will exploit that.

I tend to agree with him there. I've heard people say Shanle is gonna be pretty good this year and that he's pretty fast, but Dwayne Jarrett is unbelievably talented. (Wasn't he runner-up for the Biletnikoff as a sophomore last season?) He's 6'5" 210 lbs and we don't have the biggest corners ever. But our d-line is pretty good and deep. Hopefully they'll get to the QB all game long so Jarrett can't hurt us.

I still think we have a pretty good chance of beating them though.

Let's see here...I think he had about 0 yards on us and I'm not sure he even touched the ball once. If I remember right, he may have dropped a pass, but I'm not sure.

Seriously though, the v in "v-back" stands for versatile. I found an article on Vickers and it says it in the article. Here's a quote from it:

"The "V" in Lawrence Vickers' job description is supposed to stand for "versatile."

I'm pretty mad about it. I wanted to see someone from my town win a big award. That would just be awesome. But yeah Koch is a better punter than Torp. I think that if would not punt in such thin air, his average would go down...not much but just enough so that whoever votes for the Ray Guy award would notice that other people have better averages. I wonder how far that 84 yard punt of his would have gone in Boulder. Oh well, Koch is a great punter and I think he'll do well in the NFL.

The day after we became bowl eligible I read that if we beat CU we may play in the Alamo Bowl against Michigan or Wisconsin. Is it still a possibility to play Wisconsin or not? I think it would be great to play them and have Barry Alvarez end his career against Nebraska. I just want to know if we could still play Wisconsin in the Alamo Bowl.

WRs - Basically all new receivers. Leflore, if I remember correctly, is the only one with any experience from last year.

About the TE's, we really miss Matt Herian. I think Zac Taylor would be able to use him as somewhat of a security blanket. His hands are great. We could really use him on 3rd downs and in the red zone. Plus just the prescence of him on the field would draw some linebackers away from the middle and possibly open the run a little more.

More WR's than LeFlore have had experience. Grant Mulkey, Terrence Nunn, and Isaiah Fluellen have all had experience. However, Fluellen has been plagued by injuries. He has great speed and I think we could use him on some deep routes as well as reverses.

Champs Sports Bowl - Florida State, Clemson, Maryland, Boston College.

Independence Bowl - South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt.

Alamo Bowl - Michigan, Wisconsin.

I heard on the radio a few times that our players tried to go for the ball instead of getting the tackle. Have our coaches had the players do so many drills to strip the ball that they forget how to tackle? After watching Bullocks in the Wake Forest game I was thinking how great he was. Now he can't tackle at all. I think we need to address the problem BIG TIME in the practices before the CU game.

I agree that he should have been used when we were on our own 1 yard line. When we were on their 1 yard line I agree with what the coaches did by leaving in Ross. The thing is though, if Cory Ross can't get one yard on one play, not many people could. Both of those safeties were the O-Line's fault. You could have put LenDale White back there, but with the blocking that occurred on those two plays, the result would have been the same. If I'm not mistaken, Cody Glenn didn't have one carry in today's game. Brandon Jackson had more touches than he did, which I don't mind, but this does make someone kind of wonder.

Wow this Gary Java guy is driving me nuts. He doesn't let anyone talk! I'm tired of him saying how great we will be. He doesn't ever admit we are struggling right now. Last year I used to look forward to the call in show. Now if anyone says one semi-negative thing about the team they either get cut off the line or Java yells at them and says we will be good. It's just annoying. One guy called in twice this show and told him they cut him off! It was freaking hillarious! I did learn one thing from the show though. The bowls that had representatives at the game were the Champ's Sports Bowl, the Houston Bowl, and the Alamo Bowl. The Independence Bowl was not mentioned.

Anyhoo...here are my thoughts on the game:

First of all I thought we played fairly good. There were many areas to improve upon, but overall I was glad to see us get the W. Good to see the seniors win their final home game! 'Bout time we beat those frickin' Wildcats. The best news is that we're goin' bowlin'!

The worst part of the game was Taylor getting hurt. I hope he is ok and is able to play against Colorado. I guess it won't matter who starts at QB for that game because I don't really seeing us winning anyways but ya never know. I wasn't too impressed with Beck's decision making, but he is a freshman so I guess that's the main reason he didn't play very well. On the interception he threw, it sounded like he had room to run according to the radio guys. Sucks that he lost a year just to play in this game. I guess he'll play in more if Taylor can't go next game.

Sam Koch turned in another great day. He deserves to win the Ray Guy award. What a great play by him to get the bad snap and get the kick off.

The O-Line had another shaky performance. Allowing two safeties wasn't the greatest thing ever. It sounded like there was a little improvement however. Glad to hear about Lydon Murtha throwing a good block on one of the touchdowns.

Good job Congdon on the game winner! Glad our extra point/field goal team can execute. This game shows how important that is. Really felt sorry for KSU's botched attempts.

Marlon Lucky didn't have a very great game. I think he started to think he can get 30 yards a return every time. That was proven wrong. I still want to see him break one all the way...again...so it counts. He definitely has the ability.

Defensively we were lackluster in tackling again. I wonder how many yards they got after 1st contact. One of their backs, can't remember which one, had a few guys on him and carried them for about 20 yards towards the beginning of the game. That was absolutely nuts! Zack Bowman got beat on one play by at least ten yards. That guy has been disappointing...but he has made a few great plays.

Play calling seemed ok this game. I can only recall one 3rd and 1 where we passed it. Pass was incomplete, but if I remember right, there was pass interference on them. Glad to see him leave in Cory Ross on the goal line and let him score. I'm glad he got a touchdown on senior day.

All those reviews got very annoying. Most of them seemed basically like coach's challenges. Bill Snyder was starting to annoy me. Wait, I mean not starting to annoy me, but annoy me even more. Good to see that NONE of the reviews went his way.

Glad we got the W. I hope we beat CU. I hope we win our bowl game. 8-4 doesn't sound too bad at all. I don't see us getting to 8-4 though. The best I see us doing is 7-5.

would it make sense to leave Dane Todd in on passing plays to protect Taylor's left side?  hell i am no coach, but it is a thought?  call some more draw plays.......maybe even run a reverse or two?  anything!

I totally agree with that. Leaving Todd in on pass plays would make us lose a receiver. However, it's a great idea because it will give Taylor time to make a few more reads. Just think of it as leaving in Todd and taking out Taylor's last option to throw. He rarely gets time to check down to the last guy anyways.

I don't know if this is necessarily true, but when I think of the West Coast Offense, I see in my head trick plays. Like you said, some reverses and draws could work very well I think. Tossing it to Cory Ross and having him lob it downfield to Nate Swift CANNOT be our only trick play in the thick book. It's not going to work every time you run it. But my dad and I were talking about "why doesn't Nebraska run something like that?" (referring to the reverse toss that Arizona ran for a score on UCLA). We need some more misdirection.

I think it's a good move. He just needs to forget his blocking assignments from the right side and I think he'll be good. I still think our left tackle position needs to improve however. It doesn't matter who is playing LT, the D-End seems like they have no trouble running around them and hitting Taylor from his blind side. If the right side is a little weak, Taylor can see the guy coming easier and is able to dodge him. I think Greg Austin will improve the blind side protection, but like I said, our left tackles need work. Overall, I think this was a good decision.

8-4 doesn't sound too bad at all. Wouldn't be a pretty 8-4 I can tell ya that much. I would still take it. If we beat Kansas State and lose to Colorado, which is what I think will happen, which bowl would we most likely play in and who would we possibly play? Has anyone heard anything on this?

I do believe we will go bowling this year as much as I don't really like Billy C (yet). I think he'll be able to get the guys together for the last home game and go out of Lincoln a winner. I think we'll have to beat K-State to get in. If we lose (god forbid that) I don't see us beating Colorado out there anyways so to me this is the game of the year. The seniors are going to be ready to play and I just hope the rest of the team is too. It's going to be a tough game so they better be ready for a fight. (Sorry that was kinda cheesy but oh well.) I think the game could be decided in the last 5 minutes although it would be better if we would just take it to 'em the whole game and end up winning by double digits.

As I was sitting around in class today trying to pass time until I get homework assigned to me, I start thinking about all the teams that have torn down their goal posts after a victory against us lately. This brought up two questions in my mind:

1. When was the last time Nebraska fans have torn down the goal posts after a victory?

2. When will we do it again?

I started to debate in my head of when this would happen since I have no clue what the answer is to question number one. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but we play Texas at home next season and USC at home the season after that. Those are the two games I can see us doing it and god do I hope we win so it happens.

The Kansas shirt is taking it a little too far. Yeah they beat us...(by a lot at that) and they ended the streak. But to say "shucked" the world?! C'mon...I was kind of expecting that to happen and so were a lot of people. It's not like it was a huge upset. Maybe if they beat us when we were ranked in the top 25 that would make sense.

Another win that got taken too far was Missouri. They beat us 2 years ago down there and tore down the goal posts. They beat us two years later and what do they do? They tear down the goal posts. They didn't upset us really. They didn't end a streak of losing to us unless you count one game as being a streak. Am I the only one confused by this?

Here is how I see it.

Marlon Lucky will eventually develop into a great back. Just look at what Brandon Jackson (another "prized" recruit) did on kick off returns and compare that to Marlon Lucky in the last two weeks. Don't get me wrong, I like Brandon Jackson, it's just that he was a lousy kick returner and hesitated too much. I would like to see him run the ball a little more, but I don't think it will happen because of Cory Ross getting the majority of the playing time and Cody Glenn for short yardage.

We do have great talent. It's just that Bill Callahan seems to me like he wants to run a little too much West Coast Offense. There have been MANY times it has been 2nd down and 4 or something like that and he passes. Pass falls incomplete and we pass it again. Pass falls incomplete and here comes Sam Koch booting another one inside the 20. We need to run the ball on 2nd and 4 and gain a couple yards to make it 3rd and 2 or 3rd and 1. Then we need to run it again on 3rd WITH CORY ROSS! Cody Glenn is great and all, but Cory Ross is a senior and if he can't get 1 yard one 1 play, we definitely have some HUGE problems on the offensive line. Our players are also recruited to get yards on the ground, so we should be able to convert a 3rd and 1. We need to spend some scholarships on the O-Line. Lydon Murtha getting 3 false starts per game does not cut it. The worst thing about the weak line is that the weakest part is on the left side, Taylor's blind side. If it were the right side, he could at least see the guy coming and attempt to dodge him.

Back into recruiting. Our new players this year will have experience come next year. Zack Bowman might be able to cover someone, Steve Octavien will be healthy, Marlon Lucky will have gotten stronger and I wouldn't rule out him starting next year. Chris Brooks and Frantz Hardy can get used to the system and be able to run routes without even thinking about it. Congdon will not be under as much pressure. etc. etc.

Both OL are from Omaha. Those are the only two linemen in our commits list. We need more, but there is PLENTY of time. We have more commits of course. I just didn't fell like listing them.

Overall, this recruiting class doesn't look too bad so far. I loved Frank Solich, and was very much against his firing. I think we should give our new players recruited for the West Coast System a chance to develop though. However, if we do not get to a bowl this year and again next year, I will start to become even more angry with Stevie P. Bill Callahan has not impressed me yet, but I think he better bring a winning season soon or there are going to be many more fans like myself who are very unhappy with him.
