  1. Thought I'd pass it on. I think it'd be a pretty cool thing to go to. Too bad this week is a homework nightmare for me...

Legendary football coach Herman Boone will speak at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 9 in the Nebraska Union Ballroom. The lecture is organized by the University Program Council.

The lecture is free for UNL students with a valid NCard and $5 for all others.

  2. Someone asked about Beck as OC. Beck obviously came from a good football background but really kind of made his mark in the Texas High School ranks. Remember these programs are like small colleges. And he was the TO of high school coaches in his few years there. All the coaches called him, copied his offenses etc. That's part of the reason hes so connected there. His offenses operated on simple ideas but could put up big numbers either way. Think of simplicity like Mike Leach's offense. It was always said Leach had 10 plays in his play book that was it, but you never knew what was coming.

Beck was recruited to KU for those reasons and it was thought he'd go from there to OC at KU as soon as the OC there. He's was 4-5 years ago where Frost is now.

Not to mention that Beck also has some OC experience at the College level, albeit a lower level. Overall I think this step is the next logical progression for Beck, I think he will be good.

We have one poster stating that it will be Warriner and Beck, this is my hope, and another stating just Beck. Both saying Frost is a maybe. The press is saying Beck in one fashion or another, but with playcalling duties. So Beck is solid as the playcaller, question is if anyone will be splitting the OC role with him and how the other positions get filled as a result. I would LOVE Warriner to come and coach OL and be CO-OC, this is now my favorite option per my reasons previously posted, but I would be ok if they gave Frost a CO-OC title and a position duty. Frost could help in game planning and still coach a position and mature as an offensive coach. I would be ok with that I suppose. It brings another ace recruiter and pretty good coach to the staff. He would also be a logical successor to Beck when Beck decides to take a promotion.

As for the comment that when Bo leaves Beck goes with him, I don't agree with that. Beck will be the OC here, if he does well then it is logical, assuming he has ambition and I think we can all agree based upon his resume he does, that he will look to be a HC somewhere. Most likely first at a mid-level or lower level program. Bo won't be leaving before Beck's name gets tossed around, the assumption being he does a fine job with this new opportunity. Beck will most likely leave before Bo, only options I see Bo leaving for is maybe the NFL and/or OSU, so it would be nice to have a quality coach groomed to be the successor. That timeline would also make it possible that, again assuming Frost's career remains on an upward path, for Frost to possibly succeed Bo. 2-4 years as a CO-OC, another 2-4 as the sole OC, take a lower tier HC job for 2-4, take a mid-tier to upper tier job 2-5 years, and then his dream job of HC at DONU opens up as Bo might be ready to retire by then; all of this is assuming that both Bo and Frost remain successful. Just a thought.

I also like the thought of Frost eventually becoming our head coach. I can't definitively answer whether or not he's ready for an OC job at this point in his career, but I'd really like for him to be on the staff sooner than later. I honestly don't see Pelini retiring as our head coach, although I wouldn't mind seeing it. And even if Bo did retire as our head coach, you have to remember he's only 7 years older than Frost. By the time Pelini would retire, Frost wouldn't be too far behind. I'd just like to have Frost as a part of the program for if/when Bo decides to leave. That way we could at least have some continuity with the staff. Of course, this is assuming that Frost "lives up to the hype," which is something I believe he is more than capable of. I like my Oregon-offense-flavored Kool-Aid. :koolaid2:

  3. About 5 years ago my family and I were sitting in a diner in Central City, NE and my dad goes "You'll never guess who's sitting right behind you." I turn around casually and low and behold, it's TO, Nancy, and another man. We didn't say anything to them, not wanting to interrupt their meal, but as they got up to leave Nancy made a comment to us about having to drive because women drivers are more safe or something (it was snowy out). We got a good laugh out of it and they went on their way.

Another story about the one and only TO. I was born with a collapsed lung and was in one of the hospitals in Lincoln. I think it was St. Elizabeth, but my family ended up riding the elevator with Tom. They got to talking somehow and he said something to the effect of "Well I hope everything turns out okay." I love that man and his healing powers.

  4. Wouldn't mind seeing a holding call made at some point. It's pretty easy to neutralize a pass rush when you can dance with the defense.

Agreed. The one on Chester Taylor was pretty ticky tack compared to some of the stuff that has been going on every play by both teams. And how do they not overturn that last interception? Even Mike Pereira said he thought it was incomplete. It would have been nice to get into possible field goal range there. I'm afraid the Bears are going to have to start blitzing a lot. Like Rodgers needs any more room to throw. Ugh. Here's to a completely new team in the 2nd half.

  5. Bears DE Gaines Adams dies in South Carolina

    By Doug Farrar, www.sports.yahoo.com

Yahoo! Sports has learned from a source close to the Clemson football program that Chicago Bears defensive end and Clemson alum Gaines Adams(notes) died Sunday morning after being taken to Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, S.C. Scout.com's Roy Philpott, who broke the news, indicated that county coroner James T. Coursey released the information. Early reports say that Adams died of cardiac arrest due to an enlarged heart, and a preliminary autopsy has confirmed this. LINK

Heart attack. That's shocking and sad. RIP Gaines Adams. RIP

I would have loved to see what Gaines would have been capable of this season playing opposite of Julius Peppers. I remember when the Bears originally traded for him last season, Marinelli thought he'd be able to "turn him around." There's no doubt in my mind he would have been a very solid player for them this season...at the very least coming on the field to pass rush on 3rd down. RIP

  6. This board is amazing! I've been a member since '05 and it only gets better every year. I've read many other Nebraska sports message boards, but this one is WAY better than any of the other ones, plus it's free. Like others have said, I wouldn't say I've "learned" a whole lot (I read the media guides over Dr. Seuss books as a kid), but it's just a great one stop location for all things Husker related and beyond. I guess you could say the part of the board that I "learn" the most from is the recruiting forum. The main posters in there are 2nd to none in providing any and all information you would want about a recruit.

Similar to the OP, I'm the guy in my family/friend circle that is considered the Husker "expert." Whether it's breaking news post or just a feel-good story someone posted about one of our players, I'll usually tell at least one person about it. Like I said, I've been around the board a fairly long time now. I really don't post very often (seems like everything I want to say has usually already been said), but I check the board at least once a day if not more. Not only is it great for Husker sports, but if you have a question about ANYTHING, chances are someone here will be able to answer it.

    I love this place!

  7. Finally the Vikings do something cool and give the Bears a first round bye! Regardless of the outcome on Sunday, this has been a great year. Greatly exceeded my expectations. I'm still not sold on the Bears being a possible Super Bowl team. I honestly don't think they'll win their first playoff game. I think their defense is slightly overrated, however the offense has been playing well as of late. I just think if we face a pass-heavy team (like the Pats) we're done. But they've been proving me wrong all year, so here's to them doing it again.

  8. That was nuts! I enjoy watching Coughlin freak out on the sideline when his team starts choking it away. Vick's sack avoidance still continues to amaze me. DeSean Jackson is the cockiest dude ever, but when you do something like that I guess you get to be. I still can't believe the Eagles pulled that one out. Great game! Well, 4th quarter anyways.

  9. I was at a benefit for a family friend (who recently passed away) tonight. There was a silent auction and there was at least one football signed by Martinez available to bid on. Apparently our friend's daughter saw him at Scheel's in Lincoln and asked if she would buy some balls, if he would sign them. She explained the situation fully and said Taylor was very happy to do it. Nice to hear a story like this after all the "bad" things that people, including myself, have been saying about the guy.
