  1. Much of the problem has been attributed to the lackluster Wifi or other internet capabilities inside of stadiums. Much of the younger crowd is more interested in tweeting about the game, instagraming pictures of them at the game, etc. than with the game itself. If the internet is bad, they don't show up, even with cheap tickets and the vigor of youth on their side.

What a world we live in.

These are the kinds of BS excuses programs and TV like to use to disguise the fact that in most cases, the stadium atmosphere is just not a lot of fun. Nebraska is different because people show up already in the mindset that this is going to be the awesomest party of the year. Same for a lot of SEC and a couple other storied programs. But in many, many cases attending a football game is a slow, painful, and boring affair moving from commercial (Yay, piped in music!) to commercial (Woohoo, T-shirt giveaway!) to commercial (Yes, funny video on the screen!). All that for the price of a small vacation if you take your family. It's the same as in the NFL. It's just not fun enough to go to the games.

Don't blame the fans - blame the product. Everyone always wants everything to be about money (or at least accepts it), so here is the price for that. There is a reason, people are flocking into the soccer stadiums and (back) into baseball parks. Football is just more and more an event made for TV.

It's not. Programs go through tough times. There is nothing we are going through that dozens of other great programs haven't gone through before. Sure fans and the media present these situations as huge turning points in a program's history, but they rarely are. In a couple of years, this season will be nothing more than a page in the Cornhuskers' history book. The mistake is to believe this 2015 season is somehow special or more relevant than 2014 or 2016. It's not.

Nebraska will continue to have great coaches and great football teams. Every program is a unique combination of positive and negative factors. Sure we have challenges - recruits like Los Angeles better than Lincoln. But Nebraska has a loyal fan base that USC and UCLA would gladly give up their 5* recruits for. Everything's a trade off. The most important thing to keep in mind: In the world of college football great programs are literally too big to fail. The whole structure, the way the money flows, etc. means that programs like Nebraska will be given chance after chance because Nebraska is a giant brand in college football. Unfair to all the smaller, potentially more deserving programs out there, but that's the way today's college football is.

So the conclusion here is that all the hand wringing, all the drama, all the "This is the end of Nebraska" articles are nothing but a giant waste of time and will be forgotten soon. It's a necessary waste of time because college football is entertainment, and this is very entertaining to a lot of people. But a waste of time nonetheless. Keep that in mind the next time you feel bitter or hopeless.

SMU was huge, and they failed. Along with a number of other teams. Here is an honest question, and also the reason why so many are at the tipping point now. When you say that Nebraska will continue to have great coaches and great football teams, what in the last 14 years convinces you of that? And where were those great coaches and teams during that span?

14 years isn't really that long, especially given how consistently successful Nebraska was prior to that. I get your point, but my main point is that Nebraska isn't going to lose potential or opportunity for greatness anytime soon. That doesn't mean there is a guarantee we'll be awesome again anytime soon, but chances are we will be some day.

I don't think there's anyone here who doesn't support the kids.

The coaches, on the other hand...

Yes, you can be a fan of the program, support the team, and question the ability of the staff to get wins.

    This.

I am so tired of the holier-than-though super fans who after every loss, will somberly declare that they "stand with the team" and denounce all the fair-weather fans who dare speak ill of the team. Guess what, super fans: It's okay to have a life. It's okay to turn off a game when it's embarrassing and painful to watch. It is even okay to stay home from a game or leave early if everything just stinks. It's a game. You are not a better person for enduring more crap than other fans. You are not some sort of soldier or martyr. You are just watching football.

Does anyone honestly believe Nebraska fans stop being fans because of a few bad seasons? Now, if you have a many decades long culture of losing and disinterest, then your fan base will eventually fade away. But that's never going to happen at Nebraska.

The B1G is a fantastic conference. If we can get back to our old shape and a good hard running game, B1G play will be a lot of fun. Personally, the academic prestige of the B1G is enough for me to be happy here.

Ya who doesn't love academics. I mean, that translates to wins more so than superb athletes.

You do know there is a university attached to our football program, right?

Yea, but football brings in a crap load of money and shouldn't be ignored.

I don't think we'll ever get to a point where the state or the University of Nebraska ignore football. ;) Don't get me wrong, I do think that we should be in the greatest athletic conference we can be. But I think we'll grow in the B1G, and the B1G will grow on us. The Big 12 may be a slightly better geographical fit, but the B1G isn't bad either.

Think we have 2 more home games. Hope this is the last post on this thread.....

Oh, be realistic. There is no way we win against MSU or Iowa, and that's a good thing. Because I'd be really infuriated if it suddenly turned out that we can beat the best teams in the conference but lost so many games to average and poor teams.

The sad part is if we win two more games, we will likely still go to a bowl game because there won't be enough eligible teams and Nebraska fans travel better than most. Not sure I want to see us play in some meaningless bowl game, knowing we don't deserve it.

That's Riley's calling card. Sub .500 season with losses to FCS schools and then pull some unexplained win out of your butt.

Riley is not our biggest problem by far. He may not end up very successful at NU, but he's not a screw up. Despite his recent records, he did a great job at Oregon State.

Nebraska's last chance for a home win comes on November 27th, since that is the last time the Huskers play at home this year.

So why don't we have both teams show up and see what happens and just cut the drama queen posturing?

Do that if it makes you feel better. I will spare myself the pain and do something fun in the meantime. I don't mind watching my team lose, but I've had enough embarrassment for the season.

Also, keep in mind, everyone, that the Big12 is also changing. It's doing great athletically right now, but there is still no guarantee it will be around for a long time. And it may change in a lot of ways that aren't desirable for fans.

...But since he won't, who are the coaches that need to be?

For me Brian Stewart. Secondary sucks. We had an all-american caliber safety that hasn't done sh#t all year. Davie was atleast second team all big ten, and hasn't done sh#t. This is more than just scheme. Also, THE RB COACH. WHO THE HELL CAN EXPLAIN THE ROTATION?

Gerry sucked at tackling last year as well...he made plays in the pass game, but his tackling was nothing to be impressed with.

No one is going to be fired...we will become an even bigger joke if the staff starts to get fired after one season. We were questioned about firing Bo after the 'success' he had...

Let's face it, Nebraska is far from making an appearance in Conference Championships game, let along any chance of being in a playoff conversation in the future...that ship sailed around 2002!

Wouldn't we be a joke if we kept paying coaches who led us to the worst pass defense in the country? We literally can't do any worse.

I get your frustration...I really do, but sit back and really think what coach would actually want to walk into something like that...you gotta think logically with this...NO coach would walk into that mess.

That's why a total reset, including the HC, would be the better strategy. I don't buy the idea that somehow people won't want to risk coming to Nebraska. Everyone who understands the politics of college football will understand that a program like Nebraska can't afford to keep this coaching staff around. There will still be a lot of high quality candidates for the jobs.

  10. Yeah, time to find other things to do on Saturday mornings for the rest of this season. It's not that we lose. It's how we lose. And even if we win this game somehow (which we won't): This team is just plain horrible to watch. Football is supposed to be fun. This is the opposite of fun.
