  1. There is a very good book out there about college football called "the system" there is a chafter dedicated to BYU (actually a couple) but one is about a high profile LB recruit who had offers from BYU and Nebraska among others. Regardless this kid got in trouble in high school on multiple occasions and was arrested a couple of times as well. Mendenhall kept his offer because he believed he needed the faith and help there. I'm sure it helped the kid had huge talent as well (eyeroll) if I can find my copy of it I will drop his name and some quotes from the book

His name is Kyle Van Noy. He was a 5 star recruit and plays for the Detroit Lions. He actually was kicked off the team for the whole year before he was allowed to play. He had scholly offers to about 20 p-5 schools that he could have chosen to go to instead and not have had to serve the 1 year suspension (Underage drinking was the violation by the way). He went on to be a very upstanding guy and probably did more good in the community than any other BYU player in a long time. He has a lot of foundations he runs here and although he lives in Detroit is very involved in the community in Provo. This is a terrible example. I urge you guys to read that book its awesome.

I get it we have had some terrible incidents lately. The punch was completely ridiculous and he should have been suspended for it. This story big red is referring to is nothing but a very uplifting story and you are completely off about punishment and everything else involved with it.

We have a bit of an image problem right now that I hope gets turned around. I feel bad about the TE incident. I don't think it was intentional. I think he didn't know it he had the ball or not. Should have been flagged but I don't think it was intentional. Other than that I think the game was pretty well fought and there is some major grasping at straws on this topic. Hope you guys are doing well in Lincoln. We as a fanbase really believe you guys for the most part are some of the classiest fans we've met. We have a ways to go in that dept and I will be cheering for you anytime we see them on TV.

I found this interesting...world beater Taysom Hill's sophomore passing stats.

    2ev3xj8.png

They look oddly similar to Tommy's sophomore stats.

    2ev6ux5.png

I've linked to the full stats for both guys. Taysom had a lot more rushing yards but mostly because he had 100 more rushing attempts.

Look at his pre-injury numbers last year:

    88/132 (66.7%) - 975 yards - 7 TD - 3 INT - 87 rushes - 460 yards - 5.3ypc - 8 TD

Those are really, really, really good numbers.

for comparison here is Tommy Armstrong in the same first 4 games:

    52/94 (55.3%) - 886 Yards - 9 TD - 2 INT - 40 rushes for 344 yards - 8.6 ypc - 2 TD

So you pointed out the teams Taysom played in the first 4 games. Tommy's first 4 games were FAU, Mcneese St, Fresno state, and Miami.

to provide a little context for Tommy Armstrong - those stats primarily came against four teams that finished a combined 21-29. And one of those teams was an FCS School. FAU 3-9. Mcneese St FCS 6-5, Fresno St 6-8, and Miami 6-7. Those are worse teams than what Taysom played against.

  3.

Maybe we will get to 50 + pages before kickoff! Oh, did the BYU get their annual rabbis shots this year?

I didn't know Mormons hated Jews that much.

HAHA Just so every one is clear. We don't shoot rabbi's in Utah. The Jewish population pretty small in Utah but not because we shoot at them. I do know why we would need rabies shots do you guys bite alot of people there in Lincoln?

  4. Here's some fun bits of information about BYU:

--This is the 9th time in the last 11 years that BYU will open the season against a team from a Power 5 conference, having matched up with Boston College, Arizona, Oklahoma, Washington, Ole Miss, Washington State, and Virginia.

    • 2005 Boston College: BYU lost 20-3, Boston College finished the year 9-3
    • 2006 Arizona: BYU lost 16-13, Arizona finished the year 6-6
    • 2007 Arizona: BYU won 20-7, Arizona finished the year 6-6
    • 2009 Oklahoma: BYU won 14-13, Oklahoma finished the year 8-5
    • 2010 Washington: BYU won 23-17, Washington finished the year 7-6
    • 2011 Ole Miss: BYU won 14-13, Ole Miss finished the year 2-10
    • 2012 Washington State: BYU won 30-6, Wazzu finished the year 3-9
    • 2013 Virginia: BYU lost 19-16, Virginia finished the year 2-10

So while BYU has started the year facing a Power 5 opponent--with the exception of Boston College--no opponent finished with #9wins. Meaning that BYU isn't this world-beating team that a simple 5-3 record against Power 5 opponents would lead you to believe. Nevertheless, BYU will provide a good litmus test for how the Huskers will fare in 2015-16.

--This is the first time in both schools histories that BYU will meet Nebraska.

--BYU is 3-7-1 all time against Big Ten schools

Who's claiming to be world beating? I think BYU could beat maybe 40-45% of P-5 schools. Nebraska could probably do 60-65%. I think it will be a fun matchup but nobody who live outside the mental hospital is predicting national championships here.

  5.

Baylor and BYU must be having a nice little contest to see who goes to hell first.

    jimmersign.jpg

So you and JimmerJammer are married, together, partners? Or is it coincidence?

I walked into to that one I guess (Jimmer Fredette). Probably funnier to my fanbase that the huskers sorry

  6. It should also be pointed out that Mike Welch doesn't speak for all local media, any more than those Yewts at the Salt Lake Tribune speak for all Utah media.

Haha I saw those tweets. Did he have a bad interaction with Bronco at some point? I know he is kind of a wierd guy, I don't think I have ever heard him be referred to as a jerk. He did get one point right as a religious institution that wants to stand for what is right the brawl isn't a good look for us. But we don't have 60 Jesus's running around in pads. We have 60 18-24 yr olds who make dumb choices at times. Just like any team. Its sad this happened and hopefully it doesn't happen again. Hey we are asked to refrain from sex till marriage we have a lot of built up frustration that we got to get out somehow

  7. How does the Kellen Huston incident relate to anything about a fight in a football game? He decked a poor unsuspecting Mizzou fan. There was no fight, there wasn't multiple players involved. I just don't see it. I looked for a bench clearing brawl in all of Nebraska history, and couldn't find one. Maybe if you dig a little more you will find another non-relatable incident to make your arguments with. If your looking for something to relate to the Kellen Huston debacle here you go: BYU's starting CB is facing assault and rioting charges. Salt Lake Tribune.

Already facing multiple suspensions for the season opener, and this guy pulls this? The wheels are coming off the bus. I am just hoping BYU can field a team to bring to Lincoln.

Just to put this to bed the Kellen Huston incident has nothing to do with the BYU brawl. The only point is He decked a guy and got a one game suspension. Kai Nacua decked a guy and got a one game suspension. some people think Nacua should get a bigger suspension, I see those punches thrown as similar, and they got similar punishments.

The reason I believe the fight turned into a brawl is because the game was over and all the players were already on the field at that point. If it was the middle of the game the coaches most likely could have kept the players off the field and the incident could have been broken up real quick. I truly believe this. I think with the Miami game last year if all the players were already on the field it could have escalated similarly, but there was still 2 minutes left and it was just the Miami offense and Neb defense and the refs and coaches were able to step in real quick fortunately. But hey maybe we are just a bunch of classless thugs. I would just hope you would want you players to step in to rescue you starting center as he is getting helmets swung at him and players stomping on him, regardless of whether he started it or not.

Yeah not too happy about this. assault and rioting sounds a little more extreme than it is. He got in a fight with a tow truck guy in provo for his tire being on the line rather than between the lines. really bad timing.

  9. In Kellen Huston's defense, that Missouri fan could've been a terrorist.

Kellen possibly saved lives that day, you never know.

Finally! We have a logical explanation. Thank you.

  10.

Integrity of the game? Kellen Huston was suspended for one game for blindsiding a fat Mizzou boy. He wasn't even in a fight he just decked him as he ran by. You are being pretty hypocritical about that. Thats right 1 game for this. Get over it and go cheer for your Huskers

Cue JimmerJammer berating your for beating a dead horse. The BYU brawl happened one game ago. Kellen Huston's punch happened 150 games ago. How dead is that horse?

Nebraska suspended 100% of the guys involved in the Kellen Huston event, Cougz. Will BYU suspend 100% of the guys involved in the brawl?

Did you suspend 100% of the people involved with the fight against Miami there was alot of pushing and shoving which is what the MAJORITY of the fight was against Memphis. Watch it. Some will be suspended some graduated and will not be punished because its not really possible. Most of it was pushing and shoving. There was some ugly parts as well that were dealt with. Look at the tape and tell me which players you think should be suspended?

  11. If youll notice, neither Frank Solich or Kellen Huston are currently still with the program. Been a while in fact...

This is a good point 1995. Kellen Huston is now 33ish would be my guess, so he is probably not with the team anymore. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Are you saying it was OK knock someone out 10 years ago and now its frowned upon?

  12.

Anyone that is a Nebraska fan that is criticizing BYU for this needs to step off the b i t c h bus and man up.

I'm not going to apologize for caring about the integrity of the game. I think it's a crock that Memphis only suspended two players for a full game or more over this. It was an ugly brawl that in no way represents what college football should be about, and it's not too much to ask that the schools involved step up. Sportsmanship is still important in college athletics.

It's unfortunate that the team we're opening against is embroiled in this. I'd much prefer to play a fully-staffed opponent, their best players against our best players. We don't have that luxury, so we play the hand we're dealt.

Nobody is hoping that BYU suspends X-number of players so Nebraska can win.

So a fan can't care about the integrity of the game because a player (which that fan has no control over whatsoever) on the team he roots for happens to hit a fan of an opposing team? Do you think that we were all sitting around and clapping for Kellen after that?

Not at all. There are some people on this board that are absolutely indignant that a 1 game suspension is all some of these players are recieving when just a few years ago something like this happened and he received the same punishment. Nobody is saying Nacua was correct in what he did. He is being suspended for it and it is a similar suspension to what happened with your team.

  13. "If, by blindsided, you mean "punched the guy yelling in his face," then yes, he blindsided him"

Right.....its not common to just cold c$%k someone for yelling and cheering while running past you

BYU Fan has been flapping his gums about how Koroma is going to dominate Maliek Collins this game. They've also been saying that, if Koroma doesn't play, they have no chance of winning.

Koroma was the guy at the very beginning of the fight who pushed, or got pushed, or did something, and from there it all started. He was the guy hit on the head with the helmet, then buried under an avalanche of Memphis players.

Most teams hate him by the end of the game. Happens when you spend 60 minutes getting shoved onto your ass.

I would be very surprised if your Center is shoving DT on their ass. It just doesn't happen in football very often. Maybe a LB, maybe.

You are correct Tejan will not be knocking Collins on his Ass. I don't know where they came up with this. He is a very good center though and very undersized. He does have redwood tree sized arms though. They are like a freak of nature. I think that will be a fun matchup to watch saturday, but yes he will not be pancaking your all conference DT. Just hoping to nuetralize him a bit.

  16. I good giv 2 craps whose suspended. On either side. NU just needs to line up Sat and kick their collective a$$es. End of discussion. I'd much rather get their best shot and an honest assessment instead of playing their subs and thinking we are ready for prime time.

Take every opponent seriously (unlike previous teams when no one studied film), play hard whistle to whistle, flush and forget and move onto the next game.

This is how a fan of a powerhouse like Nebraska should act and not worry if a sophmore FS is playing against them like he is the second coming of Ed Reed or something.

  17.

Every team has had unfortunate incidents like this.

No, they haven't. Although Nebraska probably came close last year against Miami.

Are you claiming that 1 player losing his cool is the same as a bench-clearing brawl? And, btw, Huston was suspended for the next game. See, we suspended everyone involved in our "brawl."

Ummm... I'm confused how is it different? If anything attacking a fan would be looked on as worse. Also Kai Nacua is getting suspended THE NEXT GAME, so i don't see your point there. We could go with the spring game if you really want to enforce the next game policy you seem to be worried about?

Since when has a spring game turned into a.........game?

I believe a spring game is a scrimmaged practice. If you need help seeing the difference in the two I'll draw you a picture using crayons

Thanks crayons arent needed. I responded to the comment

"And, btw, Huston was suspended for the next game."

We didn't play any games after the bowl. This is usually the case with college football if you are confused. Hence Nacua will be suspended the next game as well. We aren't delaying any suspensions so they can play Nebraska. You guys are making a huge deal out of things that don't even apply to your team? I would hope you guys would be confident enough that you feel you can beat us without suspensions.

I'm surprised the guy who threw the rabbit punch is still on the team. He should have been arrested.

Haha. Arrested? LOL. You all are a soft bunch.
Soft? How about an ear hole sucker punch to a guy facing the other way...that's what I consider soft, or cowardly, or being a pu$$. But hey maybe I'm just old fashion...or an actual man.
I don't disagree which is why I'm fine with the suspension. The expulsion talk is just dumb though. And in Nacua's defense I'm not sure he has all of his faculties after getting rocked. He got dropped!
Are they just talking one game for him? Not enough if so.

I have been mostly just a lurker on this board. I am pretty excited about the game this weekend. I think it will be a hard fought game where both teams have some serious questions in different areas. To me this game is a complete toss up. We could easily get run out of cornfields or squeak out a winner. I know there have been some major egos that have posted as BYU fans. We get real defensive quick. The only thing I want to clear up is the suspensions. Kai Nacua should be suspended for the game. He deserves it and I don't think we will see him Saturday. For those claiming it should be more and are upset about it? Really? Every team has had unfortunate incidents like this. Remember Kellen Huston? He got a 1 game suspension as well and he dropped a poor little fat Mizzou boy who was not involved in any fight. 1 game. So stop complaining about a suspension of a kid you will never even recall who he is after Saturday

What I am trying to say is for the most part you guys have been legitimately classy. We haven't represented all that well and for that I appologize. I think the trash talk started innocent on both sides and turned sour as gameday approaches. Best of luck to the huskers after Sat. I hope you go 11-1.

Just in case you guys forgot who Kellen Huston was
