Riley will definitely be fired and will finish with a worse winning percentage than Callahan, making him the worst coach of the modern era. Everyone who supported him is to blame. Anyone who looked at his record at the day of his hiring should have seen this disaster coming.

This is remarkably similar to American Presidents. Each new president establishes new records for federal debt, just like each new "coach" at NU establishes new records for awfulness. Go big red, I guess.

Said the same thing in another thread.  Appears he has acute tendonitis of his knee (think I read that somewhere).  He was limited in spring and fall and then ran a lot the first game.  Unsure if he truly separated himself from the pack at RB.  Regardless, knowing he had this issue, why would the staff think it would not be a factor in the season.  Odd.  Wish him the best.  Hopefully it will heal up and he can get the issues fixed up.  Health is more important than football...

Actually, we don't have a lot of options at running back.

It's bad enough that Callahan was a Nebraska HC and now Riley.  We can't do anything about those two but we sure as hell can keep those names off any HC list.  If Les Miles is willing to step in as interim HC fine, otherwise leave Riley in place.  Riley needs to deal with this mess he created.

For some reason you forgot to include Pelini in your rant.

Bulls*** on the talent part. It’s already been proven multiple times over in other threads that we have better talent and depth than all but two/three of the teams on our schedule.

This is purely coaching malfeasance and incompetence of the highest order on the part of Riley and his staff (with one or two exceptions). We have the kids-they just don’t have the knowledge and coaching to win.

Which team are you watching, anyway?? I would never, ever see that game as evidence of "talent."

The fact that we’re not surprised makes me wonder why Riley is still here. At the point this crap starts to get predictable, it means a coaching change is overdue.

Riley is still here because he hasn't been fired yet. He hasn't been fired because no coach that's worth anything would want to come here. Every coach NU has hired this century has been fired in short order and ended up hating the fan base. There is only two year's worth of decent recruits in the cupboard. This place is the graveyard of coaches.

Well seeing as how most of the players on this team are now Riley’s recruits...

You will never convince me this team looks even close to this bad in games with better coaching.  Lacking or not, what we have is not this bad.

I've said all along that the Huskers were ruined about 8 years ago. Burn it down if you want, it won't help anything. Believe it or not, things CAN get worse. I suspect they will.

Are you honestly defending the coaches?  I’ll admit there’s a bit of a talent issue but the coaches have not put these players in the best position to win basically every game since they’ve been here.  We’ve had a couple lucky breaks and beaten no one.

"bit of a talent issue." LOL! Name the inherited Pelini recruits that have contributed at all this year. We are entirely dependent on the new Riley recruits stepping up in ALL positions.

Ohio St. taking it to Nebraska.

Ohio St. "You'll take it and you'll like it".

    Nebraska "... Yes, sir".

In the history of Nebraska football, people will either remember this team, players and coaches, for decades down the road for all terrible reasons. Or they won't remember them at all. That's their place in Nebraska football history.

Seriously, are there any juniors or seniors on this team that contribute at all?

At least we will have speilman for the foreseeable future

In fact, it appears that we should play only freshmen. The "upper classes" that Riley inherited are entirely s#!tty.

Who is laughing more watching this game...Bo Pelini or Mark Banker?

Why is it that some folks don't understand what a jackass Pelini was, and how much he damaged the program?

This loss is more about kids not playing their damdest.    If you play half hearted - you get walloped.   Coaching may be lacking but this is more on the players than the coaches in my view.   I am just disappointed that the team is not showing the kind of self respect and pride.  They don't seem to give a sh it.

Honestly, I think the fan base hasn't helped much. All these hillbillies around here want to do is fire the coach.

  11. 13 minutes ago, MichiganDad3 said:

The players are fine. Bo won 9 or 10 every year, and played in 3 CCGs. MR immediately gave us a losing season.

Bo had players recruited by the previous coach. He apparently forgot to recruit players for his successor. Pelini was a jackass and so were his players, that's half the problem and it's what destroyed the Huskers. Let's not go there.

At this point we have to not worry about the recruits.  We have the talent to be in a closer game with OSU, and the talent to beat Wisconsin, NIU, and Oregon, and because of coaching, we are not competitive.  We could have a roster of top 5 talent for 5 straight seasons and be losing to OSU by 2 or 3 TDs right now.

Sorry, but I see no evidence of non-freshman talent. I don't know what you're seeing.

This is what happens when one team has a coach with a fire in his belly and another has rainbows and unicorns up his sleeve. You need tough love with these kids to get them to play with intensity. I have a feeling that Mike Riley just tells the team to go out there and just have fun and winning is secondary. Everyone gets a trophy for playing kind of coaching. Look at Purdue and how much they improved. They held Wisconsin to 17-9. Can you imagine what Purdue will do to us with our rainbow dancer coach.

Yes, the coaching sucks. More than that, though--the players suck. They are truly horrible. Either they have no talent or they have no pride.

  14. I can't wait for the hilarity of the circus as we try to lure a decent coach to this infected environment. I predict it WILL be Scott Frost after all is said and done, and misery will somehow manage to intensify over the next two years until he gets fired and we hire Adam Carriker, the "bone-throwing" coach on the sideline. Not sure who comes after him, though.

  15. I think the players are trying to get fired. They're slower, smaller, and apparently dumber than most other collegiate athletes. Our receivers can't catch, our running backs can't run, and our linemen can't block. We do have a nearly-average QB, though. Also, sometimes our punter is pretty good, but that's probably from all of the practice he's had.

    why is that?

The very first word is misspelled. That's a bad sign. Also, it's another savior-seeking entreaty. I'd be great if someone on this brilliant board had some ideas outside of getting mad and firing people.
