  1. Are the stories of T A being difficult to coach, ignored his coaches and has a tendency to improvise just rumor?

I do not think his throwing off his back foot, or throwing into triple coverage or not seeing the open receiver but always going for the home run are 100% coaching problems

He has poor fundamentals, telegraphs most of his passes, struggles to count down his receivers, fails to have a good feel for location of DBs and makes way too many poor decisions

  2. Definitely not.. The team probably needs another 3 weeks of practice and recruiting always assisted by a bowl appearance, however, a bowl appearance is a reward for a good season. This team did not have a good season and undeserving of a bowl appearance.

There will be many that disagree with me and that is OK.

It may be a generation issue. I talked with several long term season ticket holders/ donors after the game last night and all have said we should not accept a bowl invitation.

Younger fans that did not experience the Huskers in the era from 1970 to 1997 probably do not agree

  3. It appears the weather will favor a running game vs passing.

This is to the Husker advantage as our run D is much better than our pass D.

A major concern will be if our OL can release from initial block and get to that second tier block. Iowa has excellent LBs

  4. I am a die hard, long, long time Husker fan.

Before getting too arrogant and making fun of Iowa,

I think we should ask which team is 10-0 and ranked 3rd in the nation and which team is not even bowl eligible and lost to Purdue and Illinois

Regardless of the outcome of the game on Friday, Iowa has had the far superior season

  5. If this assessment is true, it does not speak well for our current coachs.

I know we have had an inordinate amount of injuries.

I do not know if it is lack of talent, poor player development, injuries, or just sub par coaching but I do know this program is currently in shambles.

You have to go back to the Jennings era to match this disaster.

I trust Big Ten Network analyst Gerry DiNardo's evaluations. He was Colorado's offensive coordinator from 1984-90. He was a head coach at Vanderbilt, LSU and Indiana. Each August, he tours preseason camps. Here's what he told a Lincoln radio station in mid-August:

"We go to Illinois, we go to Iowa, then you walk on Nebraska's field and they just look so much more physically imposing at the line of scrimmage," he said. "That obviously was impressive. I think (the coaches) feel pretty comfortable with 10 offensive linemen in the two-deep.

"And you'd have to say the defensive line is one of the strengths of the team. You get the same feeling when you look at the line of scrimmage as you do at Michigan State and Ohio State. That's pretty impressive company. I think Mike Riley starts his first year with a pretty strong line of scrimmage."

DiNardo also tweeted praise of the development of Nebraska's linebackers.

What's more, he tweeted that "at least 16 of the young players looked very impressive either physically, performance or both."

DiNardo understands football better than a large percentage of Americans. His assessment illustrates that Nebraska's talent isn't as subpar as some suggest.

  7. I think it is unrealistic to expect the AD to fire Riley after one season. Eichorst would have to be fired first.

I do not believe if Riley were to be fired after one year that it would paint the Husker program as toxic or keep really good coaches at bay. A really good coach demands a compensation package in the $5 mill range. We would have to decide if we want to spend that kind of money. If we did, we could find a coach, regardless of how long M R lasts.

On a closing note, the Miami Hurricanes just fired their coach.. Golden.. He was an Eichorst hire I think

I love when the idiots come out of the woodwork calling for the AD like they have a clue about running an athletic program at a power 5 school.

It's like watching good will hunting. A janitor that knows complex math equations.

But in "Good Will Hunting," wasn't the janitor really good at complex math equations? Or maybe I'm just missing your point.

    My thought too.

I think Eichorst needs to go before Riley, that's for sure. He can't be allowed to hire another coach. Frankly, I don't think he can be left in a position where he's asked to fairly evaluate his own coach. That's why he needs to go.

I don't agree with those who say a new AD is a guarantee that a coach will be fired. Countless examples run counter to that claim, and if we get the right guy (i.e., not an ego manic or a lap dog to Perlman, who personally disliked Bo), then we can move forward in an intelligent way.

I remember when TO gave Callahan a set of very achievable benchmarks to save his job. He failed and he was fired, but I sincerely believe that if he'd fulfilled the requirements, TO would have retained him.

I don't believe that about guys like Perlman, Eichorst and Pederson; they are snakes in the grass who make a determination and then hope that results break in their favor so they are justified in retrospect. But regardless of results, they are going to carry out their agenda.

Leadership matters, and NU football is struggling as a direct result of awful administrative leadership.

  9. We obviously have a difference of opinion and it is equally obvious you consider yours as the correct one

I know Eichorst detested Pelini. He did not like his attitude, his demeanor nor his persona.

A slap at Pelini was neither the sole or main criteria in the selection process. Eichorst wanted a coach that was everything Pelini was not... Smooth, approachable, likeable and controllable.. He equally wanted someone that was not what Pelini was, crude, vulgar, defensive and struggling with anger management issues.

The ability to coach, to win was secondary.

  10.

I think Eichorst did do his job

I think the hiring of Riley was thoroughly vetted.

Neither Riley nor his staff has ever been successful except for a short period in the CFL.

IMO, Riley was not after a winning coach. He wanted a Ward Cleaver type of guy.

IMO, the hiring of Riley was a slap at Pelini

All of this is just my opinion

Please tell me how taking a slap at Pelini is SE's job.

This is the dumbest thing I've heard in my entire life. And I once heard someone say they liked Crystal Pepsi.

  13. I agree.. Don't blame Riley... He has always an under achieving mediocre coach.

Eichorst is the individual that fired Bo and hired Riley.

Bo had a lot of baggage and that taped ranting after he was fired lowered my opinion of him.

What Bo did accimplish was worthy of recognition.

He was one of three active coaches with a minimum of 9 wins each season for five consecutive seasons

Under Bo, the team GPA was over 3.0

Under Bo, I believe 100% of his seniors graduated in either 2013 or 2014

But Bo is gone. Riley is now our coach. Hopefully he makes some off season adjustments to his staff, especially on defense

  14. I would offer that I am not sure the "Fan Base" has ever fully endorsed Riley and staff.

I am a long time Husker supporter..as are many friends.. There was mixed emotion when Bobwas fired.

When Riley was hired, the thought process was " Who is this Guy" or " Why did we hire someone with such a dismal record"

Eventually most adopted the approach " He is our coach and we will support him until he shows us we shouldn't"

I do not know any booster that enthusiastically endorsed his hire from day one. I think as true Husker fans we accepted him

I , for one, think Eichorst simply biding his time until Alverez retired at Wisconsin.

His tenure at Nebraska will help accustom him to Big Ten

For which you have absolutely nothing but your wild ass guess to base that off of.
  16. My thoughts the right to appear in a owl is an earned privilege. If this team finished with only5 wins, personally I do not feel they earned the right to play in a bowl, especially given the S O S.

I am fully cognizant of the advances of an extra 30 days of practice and exposure for recruiting a bowl appearance provides.

    Just my opinion

  17. Nebraska is a ho hum state with crappy weather. The population of the entire state is less than 1.75 million people. There are few 5 star, blue chip in state prospects

With reduced scholarships nation wide, recruits will get more playing time much as freshman and sophomores,

They is reduced tendency for really good out of state blue chip players to come to frozen wastelands of Nebraska

I think we may have to accept we are destined to be about what we currently are
