Makes me wonder if there's a freshman or a few that are being overlooked right now. Particularly on the o-line. I know, I know, the coaches know best.

He def should have played more last year. He was better than Cockrell - he even played very well on ST all season

But you guys have to realize that just cuz he's better NOW than Cockrell was THEN, doesnt translate into he was better then than Cockrell was then. I know it's hard but fans should get past the whole knowing personell better than the coaches thing when we spend a tiny fraction of the time with the players and evaluating them as the coaches do.

If someone has the time please go find my posts last year - I was calling for him to play over Cockrell who was not a good player IMO

That's fine. but id doesnt change a thing. Cockrell not being good doesnt necessarily mean Williams was better. We fans do not know.

I'm not saying he would play last year like he is right now, but people really didn't think he should have gotten more looks? Was obvious from my view of watching the games

I'm left to believe that Cockrell had some dirt on both this staff and the previous one. I don't know why either staff played him as much as they did.

Generall speaking, I agree with Count. However it's also naive to think that coaches don't have a bit of a "favorite" here and there for any number of reasons - seniority, better attitude, etc. Not saying you sit Nate Gerry and play Charles Jackson just because you like Jackson's haircut but if two guys are close you may like one thing a little better and live with not being quite as good at something else.

And I don't think that's too far out of the realm of possibilities with Kieron. He didn't get a Blackshirt to start the season despite being a starter in the first game. And he didn't get a Blackshirt after that game despite having a great game and still being a starter. There was something odd about that. Not saying malicious, just odd. Doesn't add up.

And some guys just play better then you expect them to when they get in a game. Maybe they don't look quite as good in practice for whatever reason but can translate to the game field better.

It adds up if you look at it from the perspective that the reason Kieron started the first game was because Nate Gerry was suspended. He then earned his blackshirt along with more playing time by continuing to play well.

Keep killing it Kieron, you've been fun to watch this season! GBR

  2. Why isn't Cavanaugh playing some of the young healthy offensive lineman if the starters are clearly injured? Isn't NU better off with a healthy lineman, rather than guys limping the entire game with zero push on the line of scrimmage?

Clearly the young guys aren't ready to be thrown into game situations. I'll trust the coaches' judgement there, as it's what Coach Riley said in his press conference last Monday.

To say our line got "zero push" is ludacris. I recall at least two QB sneaks where our banged up offensive line paved the way to two first downs.

IMO the reason our Oline is struggling is because they're having difficulty maintining blocks. Probably because it's tough for a lineman (or anyone) to move laterally at 100% with a sprained ankle.

I hope to God our Oline can get healthy, because they were clearly the weakest link on our team yesterday. GBR

My favorite stop was on the 4th and 4 from NU's 33 yard line in the 3rd quarter. Indiana tried to have that mobile QB run on a QB keeper. Gerry filled the running lane and did miss the initial tackle, but then Kieron (I think) came right behind Gerry to grab the QB around the 30-31, then just as the QB was about to stretch out for the first down marker, Banderas lowered the boom on the QB and stopped him a yard short of the first down.

That was good tackling by Kieron (again, I think) and pursuit by Banderas to finish the play.

I really, really wish we had another season with Bando and Gerry.

Bando is replaceable, but Gerry will be tough to replace.
Gerry's been a fun player to watch the last few years. One guy to watch out for at his spot next year is Jojo Domann. He's made some nice tackles on special teams, and the coaches thought he was too talented to redshirt.

Really like this defensive staff addressing areas for improvement, and then improving on those said areas. Can't wait for this redemption game against Purdue Saturday! GBR

  4. OK. I hope someone can tell me what I'm missing. Because I'm so confused right now. About everything.

Two sites list him as living in Wisconsin, the other two in Iowa. 247 has a couple stories saying he lives in Iowa but their profile of him says Wisconsin.

According to his 247 timeline, he committed to Iowa in December 2014 then decommitted a month later. He then recommitted three weeks later only to decommit two months later. He then committed to Iowa again last June but decommitted a couple weeks ago. And now Iowa isn't even in his Top 7.

He's a four star on one site and a two star on another site.

He has supposedly dropped 40 pounds to get DOWN to 368 (which may have something to do with his all-over-the-place ratings).

Anyway, this is what I have for now.

FWIW it sounds like he might be the brother of Manti Te'o's ex-girlfriend

I love it! Finally we get a Husker on my Broncos squad! Hope he can be the next Howard Griffith for us :)

Well ... Zaire Anderson might be a starting LB this year....

Jared Crick was picked up this offseason as well. GBR

  6. If I were POB, I'd be a little perturbed that they brought in another guy though...

Nah, POB knew from the beginning there would be another QB in the class.

Remember POB actually used to be the other guy... Terry Wilson was the first QB recruit in this class, and POB was the second QB to commit (Wilson later de-committed).

  7. Amir's got quite the motor on him. He doesn't get pushed off the line of scrimmage (granted it's his highlights). Also, I like how they used him as a stand-up pass rusher instead of strictly a 3 technique (similar to how the staff used Maliek this year). Coaches sometimes do this so an offensive line can't cut block their most effective defensive lineman, and we all know our defensive line could use someone quick off the ball who can get to opposing QBs. Would love to see Amir go all N!
