First asking about the Martinez pass that was ruled a fumble after the safety dropped it. They reviewed the play and gave it to Illni at the 14. Was that play not blown dead prior to Illii picking it up? Could not hear the whistles on TV of course. Announcers mentioned a whistle but never confirmed anything. An inadvertent whistle should had us replay the down, well at least that would have been the ruling years back.

Next question: the kickoff of ours that was inbounds and died at the 3. Their player went around sprawled the sideline and recovered with most of his body out of bounds. Okay, I guess you can give yourself up if you field it inside the 10. So why would they get the ball at the 35 and not the 25. This ruling seemed about as horrible as anything I have seen in years. New rule?

Lastly something that was missed was JD catching a pass and running up the sideline when the safety clearly hit him helmet to helmet on the sideline. Why was targeting not called?? Can Frost asked that they take a look? Can the booth official call down to head official and state they want to review this hit?

Been a few years since i was a referee so I know rules change a lot but trying to get up to speed with these.

    thanks

On the “fumble” a couple of Nebraska media members in the press box tweeted that the sideline official ran onto the field waving hands in the air, which means dead ball.  I’m assuming he was also blowing his whistle.  Strange call.

Never heard art of the out of bounds rule on the kickoff.  I was thinking why isn’t there an illegal touching on kickoffs.  He went out of bounds on his own will and then touched the ball.

I bet Illinois is confused about the block in the back that was reversed against us.

  2. My brother called me on his way home. Said he wont have a voice by this morning, the crowd stayed in it until the end. Very vocal, on par with the last Mizzou or CU games (both sonic booms). Went tailgating and agree with the sub current of tension (or something), straight up chaos at the Rez. Before the game was really weird.

I was at the Indian Center tailgate too. Don't know what the hell happened. I saw one guy going out on a stretcher, about 8 people handcuffed, and the most police cars and police I have seen in one place. They made that police line and started pushing everybody out. They wouldn't let me go back to get my game tickets out of my car until everybody was out of that lot.

It was a great buzz in Lincoln all day. The game crowd noise was crazy. Everybody in my section was standing and screaming the whole game.

  3. Thanks Bob, everything was awesome! It was fun meeting everybody. The game was fun, but hot as hell. Just got back to Omaha and the weather is perfect, a nice 68.

I was surprised at the noise level of their crowd at the beginning of the game(faded very quickly though) they were all into it and cheering loud. We were in the Fresno season ticket section, across from the video screen where most of our fans were. There were quite a few nebraska fans where we were also. Had a couple Fresno fans mouthing off and just saying stupid stuff the few times I left the stands nothing major though, they seemed mostly drunk.

Anyway great time had. Thanks again Bob and Patti.

  4. Were the announcers pissing anybody else off the entire game? Every time we made a good play they always said something about a Georgia player being hurt, or the field conditions were bad. We have had tons of injuries too and we were playing on the same field.

When Cooper made that great 3rd down tackle on Gurley at end of game. The one said at least three times that there was no way Cooper makes that tackle if Gurley is 100% and the field wasn't wet. How bout just give our guy credit for a great play and shut up.

  5. Just like the team, the crowd lost confidence after the missed A. Moss sack before halftime. Walking around during halftime to the concessions and bathrooms, the faces on everyone was as if we were literally losing by 21 points. It seemed like everyone was shell-shocked and knew something bad was coming. It wasn't as loud after they got the first TD

That was the turning point for me. If we would have gotten the sack they would have punted, scored no points. We would have then gotten the ball back with about 3 min left with a chance to put more points on the board. You are correct the stadium went dead after that.

  6. I had a discussion with a co-worker about the type of Husker fan he was. Are you a homer? Are you a realist?

So, i have a few questions that I think are "hot button" topics... I would say since i didnt grow up a Husker fan, my dedication is growing each year, but i never got to taste the championship years.. I have only had the Callahan/Bo years.

    So here we go:

    T-Magic

Taylor Martinez a top 3 Husker QB of all time?--

LOVE AND HATE MARTINEZ, STATS SAY TOP 3 BUT I SAY NO.

Taylor has been good for Nebraska?

GOOD FOR NEBRASKA? MAYBE IM STUPID DON'T UNDERSTAND QUESTION.

Taylor will go down as an elite NU QB?

ELITE?NO, STATS SURE NOT COMPARED TO HOW OTHER NU QBS HAVE WON IN THE PAST.

    Bo

5 year+ years late, was Bo the right hire

    YES

Do you think Bo is the coach in 5 years?

    YES

What has been Bo's biggest flaw?

DOESN'T ALWAYS PLAY PLAYERS WHO PLAY THE BEST

    Coaching staff

Do you think Pap is the right guy?

    NO

Do you think Beck is the right guy?

    YES

    Beck or Watson...?

    BECK

    Who should be our D-coordinator?

    BRING BACK ECKLER

    Media

Who is your favorite/least Husker media guy?

    SHATEL

Who is the biggest homer/biggest realist?

    Dirk supporter or hater?

    SUPPORTER

    Husker legends

Who is your favorite Husker player of all time?

THAT'S TOUGH - CHRISTIAN PETER YOU NEED A BIG NASTY GUT IN YOUR D LINE. HE WOULD HAVE KICKED SUHS ASS IN HIS DAY. TO BAD INCOGNITO DIDN'T PLAY D LINE.

Does Rex deserve to be considered a Husker great?

PERSON YES, STATS NO, SAME KIND OF GUY AS BERRINGER.

You can have a beer with any husker player/coach/admin, who do you pick???

TOM OSBORNE? GIVE ME A BREAK, GREAT GUY SURE BUT NO FUN. ERIC MARTIN OR EITHER PETER BROTHER WOULD BE A BLAST.

In all honesty, these are very low level, boring questions... But i figured it is friday, so lets just put all our stances in one thread.

This all being said, what type of fan do you consider yourself...

    IM A REALIST.

  7. I would rather have a national championship that was decided by coaches of the game instead of sportswiters any day.

Why? Coaches can't watch games, and they have no idea what's going on. Bo doesn't even know the names of the best players on the teams we play, why do you think that type of person would be a qualified voter?

And the writers are always correct? They had USC picked to win nc this year and ND not even ranked.

You act like nobody had USC being good and the AP went out on a limb ranking them high. Both the AP and Coaches poll had USC and Notre Dame each ranked within 2 spots of themselves on their respective poll, so this argument has absolutely no credibility.

I was just simply stating the writers don't know anymore than the coaches.

  9. We did have a "close" game at Colorado too. CU was fighting for bowl eligibility, and the game really never was as close as the score. They did get the ball back with seconds left down only 3. Of course we all know about the Missouri game and what happened there. Central Florida had Daunte Culpepper as qb, and we trailed 17-14 at half, but dominated the second half. That game never felt in question. The game at Washington we pretty much dominated. IIRC, Wash got it to 21-14 at one time, but a couple 4th quarter field goal sealed the deal. Washington also got lucky on a couple deep TD's anyway. It was Scott Frost's coming out party. Other than that, we pretty much manhandled everyone.

Winning 5 games by a touchdown or less isn't considered manhandling.

    ?? Beanman confused

Sorry I'm being a dumbass, to many drinks already

  11. Going to my first Husker away game next week, so excited. I was checking out the huskermax tailgate. It costs $55 for a ticket. Do they have these at a lot of away games? Anybody who has gone before, is it worth it? Any other big group of Huskers have anything going?

Me and a few of my friends are meeting in LA to go to this game too. I saw HuskerMax's tailgate but we didn't think that paying $55 for a plate of food and 2 drink vouchers were worth it. And probably some sh*tty band playing Margaritaville. So we are looking for something to do as well.

My thoughts exactly. You might miss out on seeing Johny Rodgers. He never does public appearances. :)

  13. Wow...you have a very vivid imagination. Did you have a couple cans of kool-aid before you wrote this? There is a lot of what if's in the Husker football vault. Hell, I enjoyed the read...Thanks for keeping it under 500 words though.

That dude is on more than kool-aid. Cool post though keep it up.
