Yeah...the Big Ten is not a legal body that can stop people from meeting and playing sports.

What if the Nebraska players got in touch with the Ohio State (or any other BIG 10 school) players and agree to just meet in some random field and play. People could stream it live on YouTube.

You guys have plenty to be proud of.  We may have beat you in 97, but you won it all in 98.  Tons of players in the pros, including some of the best of all time.  Like I said, Knoxville (and Nashville) are some of my favorite places.  This might turn out to be a blessing and brings fans closer.  Who would have thought that Penn State (truly the seat of that horrible scandal) would turn it around so fast.

Thanks man. The way Penn State got things turned around so fast after probably the biggest scandal in college athletics ever should give Tennessee and Nebraska fans plenty of hope. We are both just one good coaching hire from being nationally relevant again. Even if we strike out this time, I still hope you guys pull it off and get Frost. That guy even looks somewhat like a young Tom Osbourne...perfect guy at the perfect time for your program!

Yeah man, you have a great university and a fantastic town.  I hate to see all of this, on many levels.  If Schiano is truly innocent, it is horrible that he will have a hard time getting another HC job for reasons other than his football or leadership acumen.  The Vols AD didn't do his research (imagine that Husker fans) and a proud program looks as if they are in their first rodeo.  Best of luck and hang in there.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I know you guys have never had a dumpster fire on this level probably, but I do see a lot of similarities between the Tennessee and Nebraska programs. I’m really pulling for you guys to get back on top...I view Nebraska as one of the true “good guys” in college football, and I think college football is just better when Nebraska is good. I was always jealous of your program growing up but just because you were so good.

Goodness gracious, I actually feel bad for the UT program and its reasonable fans.  Both the administration and the fanbase seemingly have teamed up to demonstrate everything a coaching candidate would not want to see to go there.  A dysfuncitonal administration that displayed poor intra-agency communication and back peddled like a veteran DB at the first sign of trouble.  A fanbase that saved all its the energy from not cheering in Knoxville during a poor season (we all know about that over here) to unleash the venom of a copperhead at one issue when it appears they were focused on another.  If the massive objection to Schiano is truly because they believe he was culpable in the Sandusky tragedy/disgrace, I applaud them standing up.  However, something tells me this was a much as a referendum on him as a coach capable of winning in the SEC.

In terms of me personally, I wasn’t excited by Schiano but it was mainly because I just didn’t think he was going to be a very good fit for our program. He has a reputation for being abrasive with fans and not being liked by a lot of his players (this was mainly from his NFL tenure though). These are similar issues we just went through with Butch Jones. If Currie had bothered to read a Tennessee message board, he could have seen that a revolt was coming if Schiano was hired. So Currie’s biggest mistake was listening to a couple prominent boosters over the actual fans. The Penn State stuff did concern me but I don’t want to assume Schiano had something to do with it when there just isn’t proof at this point. So while I wasn’t excited at all about Schiano, I was willing to give him a chance if hired. And I do honestly feel bad for the guy if he truly did have nothing to do with the Sandusky coverup. Just a bad situation all around that could have been avoided if the AD had been more in tune with the fanbase.

Tennessee's situation is RIPE for exploitation for agents expressing interest in their job, just to get the coaches existing school to give their client a nice raise and/or extension. This is another reason that Moos' keeping his cards close to his vest (regarding names on his list, other than SF) is a wise one.

Yeah this is what scares me. I’m starting to think we end up with a local high school coach by the time this is all over (I’m talking as a Tennessee fan btw).

I’m so happy we have Moos.  Our search has been much more professional than Tennessee.  That is the pure definition of a dumpster fire.

I wish we had Moos right now...Currie isn’t going to last long imo. I really do hope you guys land Frost...you deserve to be a top team. In all honesty, you are the classiest fanbase I’ve met.

Do you guys really want Gruden? When was the last time he coached football period?  His name always comes up but I don't think he wants to give up his comfortable gig for the grind of college football, do you?

In terms of me personally, I would definitely have some concerns about hiring him. I believe he last coached in 2008, and it has been almost 30 years since he has been on a college staff. The upside is it’s not like he hasn’t been around football these last 9 years, and you would have to figure he would recruit very well off name alone. Although he would need to win for that recruiting to be sustained. So he wouldn’t be my first choice but I would definitely take him over a lot of other guys. But overall, yes a good portion of our fan base desperately wants him...he’s sort of become this god-like, infallible coach somehow in people’s minds. To be totally honest, Scott Frost would be my number 1 pick, although I know the chances are incredibly low...I think he either goes to Nebraska or stays where he is. The main thing I don’t want happening is Frost going to Florida...I would fear that combination of coaching and recruiting!

That would be unrealistic, his wife wasn't a cheerleader here so Nebraska isn't "Home" like UT is. Logic abounds in coaching searches.

Don’t forget about Gruden’s son being a current UT student and that mysterious parcel of land that Gruden supposedly owns somewhere in East Tennessee. If he wears an orange tie on Monday Night Football, we will have confirmation that it’s a done deal.

Very fair assessment. It's always great to visit with fans of another team that want to participate in civil conversations. It also pains me to see Husker fans on other message boards talking trash.

All the best in your coaching search (as long as it isn't Scott Frost :D).

Thanks. I honestly hope you guys do land Frost, even though I’d love to have him at Tennessee. In my opinion, college football is just better when Nebraska is good.

Has anybody called scott yet and told him about the 200 page megathread about him?   Gotta think that would deal the deal

We are on “Official Jon Gruden thread XLI” on volnation. Each thread before it holds 6,500 posts, so that is 40 x 6,500 = 260,000 posts...plus however many posts are in the current thread.

Here's a question for everyone. If you were Scott Frost and you had multimillion dollar, long term offers from on the table from Florida, Tennessee, and Nebraska, would you push them all away to stay at UCF?

Personally I would be really nervous to go back to my alma mater because it’s definitely a big risk. You are already a hero there, so my attitude is why potentially mess that up. But to be totally honest, I’m just not a risk taker in general and usually like to take the easy route. People like Scott Frost who are really competitive often welcome those kinds of opportunities and look at it as more of a challenge than a risk.

You from 247? The guys at volnation say its 99%/an agreement is in place with UT and Frost.

Source says his buddy is in AD with Currie.

I post on volnation under the same screen name as here. I would take anything on there with a grain of salt. According to the rumors over the past few days, we’ve had about 30 different coaches locked up at one time or the other.

Welcome to the board, yes there is still a bit of uncertainty here in Husker land on whether Frost is coming or not. We haven't really heard any other names being seriously considered. We appreciate the kind words, how's your coaching search going?

It’s mostly just a bunch of unsubstantiated rumors and trolls posting made up “inside knowledge”. Then combine that with a couple hundred thousand posts about Gruden, combined with airplane tracking, recent real estate transactions, etc. Got worn out so I have been browsing Florida and Nebraska boards tonight.

  14. A lot of our fans actually have Frost as the coach we would want the most (if you exclude the Gruden maniacs). We just all assume that it would be a waste of time going after him because he’s either going to Nebraska or staying put. Plus it’s not like we can outbid you...I’d say we are pretty even financially.

I don't want anyone that old even if they are a proven winner. We need someone with the fire and passion to prove themselves, not someone saving up for retirement.

What if Saban is willing to come? He’s about 5 years older than Bohl. Let’s say that Saban even said upfront that he would come to Nebraska but would only coach five seasons and then retire. Would you take him?
