Do you know not understand “I don’t make coaching changes during the season”.. At WSU Moos fires the coach on a Saturday (I believe) and hired Leach the next day. So just stop, commenting more about it on a message board isn’t going to somehow make Moos change things. Moos is working on our next coach, just stop.

Look at LSU last year. They fired Miles in the middle of the season and it obviously did nothing to improve their coaching search. Do you guys think Riley has already been informed he won’t be back next year?

Probably a little understated, but in general, yes.  A better way to say it is probably that the former AD and Pelini did not have a good working relationship and the AD felt that Pelini was a poor representative of the University.  Many people in the Husker fan base agreed with the firing of Pelini, but really questioned both the process that led to the hiring of Riley, and the hire itself.  Three years later, close to no one questioned the firing of the AD nor the will anyone question the firing of Riley. I should add, most people here respect and like Riley and are genuinely disappointed it didn't work out.

That makes sense. Riley does seem like a genuinely nice guy from everything I’ve seen of him. I was just surprised you didn’t get a bigger name coach. But then again, I was surprised that we couldn’t do better than Jones or Dooley. In my opinion (and trying to take any bias out of it), I feel like Tennessee and Nebraska are fairly even jobs at this point in time. I know you guys have more historical success than us, but I’m just talking about the attractiveness of the jobs at the present time.

  3. As a Tennessee fan who has tons of respect for Nebraska, I definitely wish you guys the best. A lot of our fans are wanting us to go after Frost, but obviously you guys have a much better chance at him than we do. I didn’t follow your last coaching search very closely, but I was really surprised when I read the other day that Riley was your AD’s number 1 pick. I always assumed he was about your 5th or 6th choice, like Butch was for us. I know you have a different AD now, but do you know why he zeroed in on Riley? It always seemed like kind of a surprising hire to me, mainly given the fact that he was almost retirement age, so I was just curious. Sorry if this has already been discussed on here a ton.

  4. May be a night game, may not it's hard to say. Ticket prices should be relatively the same I would think

Thanks. I really hope you guys win. I've never liked Wisconsin for some reason...it's just annoying how they always seem to be so good in basketball and football when they really don't have the recruiting classes to back their results up. I guess I'm just a little jealous of their athletic department to be honest.

  5. Sorry to bump an old thread here guys, but it looks like the conference I went to in Omaha last year is going to be in Omaha again for at least the next couple years. (To make a long story short, I started this thread when I found out about the conference in Omaha last year the week of the Maryland game. I came to Lincoln for that game, asked for some advice on things to do here on this forum, and you guys were really helpful). Anyway, I just found out that's the trip has been moved up to Oct 4-6, which is the perfect week bc Tennessee is off that weekend and you guys play Wisconsin in Lincoln. I'm definitely going to come to the game. I'm sure tickets will be pricier than they were for Maryland but it's still worth it. Do you guys think this will be a night game?

    Vols guy,

    I like your classyness.

Makes we want to support the Vols.

I wish you a great season

I hope our programs can get back on top.

    Take care.

Is this supposed to be a haiku?
The way it's formatted, I was actually looking for it to rhyme too when reading it. Or are haikus the poems that don't rhyme? You'll have to forgive my Tennessee education here!
  7. Vols guy,

Thanks! I hope you guys have a great 2017 season too. I know you had a good recruiting class (best in your division if I'm not mistaken) and have some solid depth at QB next season, so things should be looking up for the Huskers. I'll be sure to watch your spring game in a few weeks now that I have BTN in my cable package.

  8. Hey guys, now that we are in the offseason, I am playing out the 2017 season with both Nebraska and Tennessee on EA Sports College Football 2014 (the most recent year the game was made), and I need to make the roster for Nebraska. I did the offense based on the projected depth chart from a Land of 10 article. They did one for defense too but it was prior to your switch from a 4-3 to a 3-4. Can anyone provide a list of projected starters for the 3-4? Also, is Kalu at safety probably going to happen or just something they're trying out for spring practice? Thanks.

  9.

I have zero idea what to expect, from either team. 40-10 either way wouldn't shock me I guess. Neither would 6-9 or 55-60.

6-9 would shock me...our defense just isn't capable of that.
    Our offense is.

Only way I could possibly see something like that happen is if your coaches refuse to run the ball and try to go air raid with Fyfe.

  10.

So how many on this board truly believe that we will win this game tomorrow? I really hope we will win and I will be very sad of my huskers lose, but the stuff that these coaches say during interviews makes me really wonder if they have a clue of how to coach our players. Tomorrow will be very interesting to see if they can overcome adversity with this many key players out.

    GO BIG RED!

I think this game is going to be about like Ohio St.

We don't ever blow anyone out, so I wouldn't worry about that. I agree we have more overall talent but keep in mind that even before we had all the injuries, Appalachian State still took us to overtime in Knoxville the first game of the season. If we hadn't recovered a fumble in the end zone, we probably would have lost that game. My point being that Tennessee is a team that just seems to have not gelled since the very beginning of the season. I expect this to be a close game and I'd say it's about 50/50 in terms of the outcome.
  11. you know, it sucks having to play teams in bowl games with home field advantage all of the time. But I was also thinking, wouldn't it be kind of lame for the players? Husker players always get to go somewhere away from Lincoln and usually somewhere warm, and they usually get to do at least a little bit of sight seeing. But if you are a Vol player, is this exciting at all?

Not only that but our most recent game was in Nashville when we lost to Vandy. One positive though is that a lot of our seniors are from the Middle Tennessee / Nashville area, so at least alot of their friends and family can go watch then in their final game.

  12. This is basically a home game for Tennessee but hey, Nebraska fans travel well. Would love to see the visitor side full of RED!!!

Our fan turnout probably won't be as good as usual for our bowl games. A lot of our fans already traveled to Nashville last week for the Vandy game. That combined with the fact that enthusiasm is low from the way the season turned out in comparison to our preseason expectations, I think a lot of our fans will just watch this one on tv. I'm sure the Huskers will bring a lot of fans as you guys always seem to travel well, and I'd assume a lot of you haven't spent much time in Nashville before, which really is an awesome city.

  13. The real question for this game is why doesn't Joshua Dobbs have eyebrows

He has a condition called alopecia areata. Here is a short blurb about it from an article online that discusses his history with the disease:

The Tennessee quarterback doesn't have hair because of alopecia areata, which first showed up around the time he was transitioning from elementary school to junior high. That's when his mom, Stephanie Dobbs, noticed a thinning spot on his scalp. A dermatologist diagnosed him with the disease, prescribed some medication that calmed the inflammation and brought his hair back in the patchy spot.

"It ebbs and flows, like a lot of other diseases," Stephanie Dobbs said. "You can regain and lose it again. The episode was so short, we assumed it may be completely dormant."

For a while, it was. As Dobbs matured from a dominant pee-wee football player into a legitimate Division I prospect, his hairline slightly receded. Near the end of high school, his eyebrows began to disappear. His hairline continued to recede after he arrived at Tennessee. Eventually, the patches returned, and today, he shaves it all off.

I love having you here Vols. We sometimes see a post or two from an opponent right after a game, but nobody hangs around.

Does TN have a similar message board?

Thanks! This is the best free message board:

I've got the same username there, so you'll probably see some of my posts. I watched every Nebraska and Tennessee game this year, so I get to pretend to be an expert for the next month!

    "corn husking flatlanders" ????

We've got a good fan base that is very passionate about college football and we are generally known as being very accommodating and hospitable to opposing fan bases when they're in Knoxville. I believe we were actually voted as the friendliest fan base in the SEC in some recent poll. But like any school, we've got our share of fans that like to run their mouth and talk trash, especially on message boards. That's not my style but it is to be expected. But if you all go to the bowl game, I think you'll find our fans to be good folks who will treat you well!

Sounds like a great Bowl trip to me. I'm surprised by all the negative comments on here.....wait....no I'm not. The only thing I don't like about it is the 2:30 start time on a Friday....some of us will still be working.

I bet it draws a big crowd and all the bars are hopping after the game. The Country Music Museum and Hall of Fame downtown is really worth seeing and I'm not even a huge country fan.

Downtown Nashville is always fun around New Years time. One thing to point out is that there are quite a few roadside sobriety checkpoints in that area during the Holidays. So even if you only have a drink or two, it's probably best to not drive.

    That's why they make cabs.

Isn't the stadium right next to downtown? My biggest concern was some of those bars around Printers Alley had some scary looking women who might mug or rape me.

Uber is good in Nashville too. Yeah, the stadium is right next to Country Music Row, which is where all the bars and action is...just have to walk across the bridge. As long as you stay downtown, you really will never even need a car.
  16. This is going to be great for me because I can stay in Nashville for New Years and then go to the Titans vs Texans game on Jan. 1. Now I just need for the Titans to stay in the division race and still have a shot at the playoffs by the time that game gets here...luckily the AFC South is the worst division in the NFL.

Music city bowl sucks, and Huskers will probably get blown out by Vols

Our defense gave up like 1300 yards combined the last two games to Missouri and Vanderbilt. No matter how good our offense plays, our defense will keep any team in the game. Tommy Armstrong will look like a Heisman caliber QB.

Between the Orange, Fiesta, Music City, and non-conference games, this may turn into a fun little rivalry.

Yeah kinda weird how we cancelled the game with you this year so we could play at the NASCAR Bowl, and we end up meeting you in a bowl game anyway. Someone correct if I'm wrong but I don't think we've ever played each other outside of the Orange and Fiesta Bowls.
