Only thing that confuses me is how our numbers game is playing out. We only have 6/7 spots left and we REALLY need a tackle.
Now, it's possible that the coaches think he can play tackle - maybe he's grown a bit since those numbers. But all the services see him as a guard.
I think with the new offense there might be less of a premium put on the prototypical tackle qualities with how much they will be pulling and what not. Could be wrong, but it might be possible our ideal tackle for this offense projects more to a pro style guard than a tackle.

I still think it's fair to call it a longshot. He's definitely interested, but I don't see us landing him over OSU without putting a good product on the field this season. If we win 10 games I think we have a real shot.

Please oh please let me get off my viagra for a few years. This guy could save me a lot of money at the pharmacy if he commits.
Maybe you could use those savings for a visit to the psychiatrist.

Riley is his main recruiter for Nebraska. And for Oklahoma.
There is continued discussion of Cav being on the hot seat. Much of it related to recruiting. Our head coach and not RB coach is the lead recruiter for what appears to be our top RB target?........interdasting.
Yeah I was gonna ask if that was a typo. Is the head coach ever a lead recruiter?
-
Might be reading into this a bit much here. Somebody probably asked him to throw on a Florida hat, while he's in Florida....
-
Well, if early playing time is what he wants then FSU might not be the best choice. Nebraska is tho!

I was always under the assumption that your clock didnt actuall start unless you took part in football related activities. If for whatever reason someone committed and came to campus but for whatever reason never took part in football related activities still had all eligibility. I know I expended all my football eligibility but got struck by lighting now I can shoot the lights out with a basketball. I still have basketball eligibility and can play
Nope. It starts when you enroll.
That's why some schools try to get guys to "grey shirt" which means they don't even enroll until the following January so they're clock doesn't start as soon.
Wow never knew that. So when Alabama grey shirts guys they just hang out at home for a year?

Yeah I don't think he's trolling or anything, there's legitmate interest. He paid to come out to Lincoln on his own dime, it's not like he's just throwing GBR out on Twitter to see how many likes he gets. But 62-3, so it's going to be a tough pull.
Could be. But I don't think so if he is going up to Mike Riley throwing the bones.I feel better about Hufanga ... I worry that this one, while I'd love to have him is trolling us a bit.
-
Are we recruiting him at DT yet? If not, the coaches must be really confident with what we have at NT. I wouldn't share that confidence.
-
It's either him or Mapieu. People would gripe either way, but I think the coaches handled it very well. How many teams would have strung Williams out just in case?
-
Bookie is a better prospect than Taylor, and I think the implication that film is irrelevant is wrong. How else does an evaluator judge a HS player? The players that perform well on film and at camps tend to do that in college as well.
Regarding the height thing, sure in a perfect world he'd be 2 inches taller. A minor concern at best. An elite corner doesn't need to be that tall.
-
I feel like NU is a real player here. Remember how golden state was trash than curry showed up and changed everything? Bookie could very well be the curry of this class and attracts guys like this to play along side him. Time will tell but from what I see we are a legit contender
Idk how much Bookie would play in with him, but it definitely can't hurt. I think we sell early playing time. He would be a star day one at Nebraska, might have to wait a year or two at OSU. Plus he is perfect for the 3-4, I'm sure he knows that. He belongs in space, not with his hand in the ground banging heads with lineman.

David Knevel 2.0?
What makes you say that?
Just feel like we're hearing the same stuff about this kid. Big dude, ton of potential, just needs a few years in the program, etc.
I'd rather have this kid than another guard, but it just seems like people are reaching for reasons to be optimistic. If he's has so much potential, why are we essentially the only major school offering him? This seems like we threw all our chips in on Bleich with little to no backup plan and now we're just going to take a body.
That bolded phrase can and is said about just about every line commit that comes into the program. Not sure why you point it out just with this kid and tie it back to Knevel.
Eh .... kind of.
I don't think that's the attitude a lot of people have about Bookie, Moore, Jurgens, Chase Williams, etc.
I said "line commit".
I think to a certain extent you're right, but all of the line commits we have brought in since Knevel have been more polished technique wise imo. This kid just has a frame with potential, that's why I drew the comparison.

Fair enough.

Looking like no QB. Not looking like there will be a RB either. Now seeing we may only take one OT - thought we'd take two.
With the 10 commits listed below, we have five open spots left and could sign eight.
QB - 0 -
RB - 0-1 - Grahm Roberts
WR - 3-4 - MANUEL ALLEN, Kamryn Babb, Nikko Hall, Joshua Moore, Kobe Smith, Tommy Bush
TE - 1 - CAMERON JURGENS
OT - 1-2 - Chris Bleich, Trey Stratford
OG/C - 1 - WILL FARNIOK
NT - 1 - MASRY MAPIEU
DE - 2 - TATE WILDEMAN, Judge Culpepper, Daniel Carson
LB - 1 - Jalen Redmond, Cameron Latu, Randy Charlton, James Head, David Alston, Elijah Wade
CB - 3 - BRENDAN RADLEY-HILES, CHASE WILLIAMS, MARIO GOODRICH
S - 1-2 - Bryan Addison, Houston Griffith, Leon O'Neal
ATH - Talanoa Hufanga
K - 1 - BARRET PICKERING
If I'm tracking this right, our 2 safeties could be Tutt & Griffith.
In an ideal world based on this weekend (doubt it'll happen), We could close out the class with the following with board with only the OTs being unknown. Would anyone be that upset? That said this is a 19/20 person class, might be too high.
QB - 0
RB - 1 = Pledger
WR - 4 = Allen, Moore, Brown, Smith
TE - 1 = Jurgens
OT - 1-2 = Stratford, Traore
OG/C - 1= Will Farniok
NT - 1 = Mapieu
DE - 2 = Wildeman, Culpepper
LB - 1 = Parsons
CB - 3 = Bookie, WIlliams, Goodrich
S - 2 = Tutt, Griffith
K -1 = PickeringIf anybody was anything but ecstatic about a class like that, get out.
Still have a hard time seeing Parsons sign with us, and maybe it's just me but I see Tutt as a pure corner and Goodrich as a safety.

Who is his recruiter, Bray or Parrella?
One can dream about a prospect like this, he'd be a starter day 1.
-
Add Florida State please.
-
Yeah, what happened here? Seems like he might not be as solid as everybody thought.
-
Tangent thread material?
-
Add Oklahoma and Va Tech please.
-
The dream OLB, won't get my hopes up tho.
-
He's the best at making people miss in the open field imo. The problem last year is that it was pretty rare the rb's had a chance to get into the open field with us constantly pounding our heads against the wall running off the center.

Tangent Thread - Paying Players Edition
in Football Recruiting
Posted
If the little league was making millions of dollars from the kids likeness, then yeah, they should at least see some of that.
I don't see a problem in at least letting players make money on the free market. If somebody wants to pay you for an autograph, your jersey, or your time, what's unethical about that? And yeah, the average role player gets a good deal with free school, but the best players get undeniably screwed while they're in college. If a student on an english scholarship writes the next Harry Potter does the school deserve all of the profits?
