  1. C'mon folks, the Program is now a full-blown dumpster-fire of a train-wreck.  From inept regents, administration, and AD to entitlement-minded fans and back-stabbing sports writers NOBODY worth his salt will touch this cancerous toad of a Program - doesn't matter what the salary is.  Heck, this Program was on life-support after Solich, Callahan, and then when Bo was wrongly fired and Riley took over...there was no margin for error with the Riley hire.

    It's over, folks.

Yes, he respected TO for hiring him.  No, he did not respect the Blackshirt tradition.

BP got 7 years, peaked and had to go.  Riley was damage control hire.  Neither of them should be here.

I mean, do you not remember the "Apathy" threads?

Bo won 67 games in 7 seasons... that seems pretty good to me for a guy in his first head coaching job who didn't even recruit that well.

How many seasons will Riley have to coach to obtain 67 wins?

He was fired because he couldn't consistently beat Alabama, who are without doubt the best team in the nation and have been for a decade.  He still went 3-7 versus Saban.  Riley would be 0-10 for sure.  If Saban is an A+, Miles is an A- or a B+ at minimum.  Riley is a C+ at BEST.. as we are seeing.  Anyone who wouldn't take Les Miles over Riley needs serious help.  Granted, Miles is not a 'nice guy' like Riley... in that he is more like Bo... but he WINS, which is something Riley certainly can't say.

Miles lost his winning touch. He would be a step down from Riley

Since I feel like Solich never should have lost his job here in the first place & he's been doing a decent job all these years in Ohio when considering the talent he's had to work with, he's my pick. (Ferentz would be my #2 pick).

    I concur.

  5. Yes, his personality seemed to be on tilt/meltdown the last 2 years but most of this could have been lessened with AD support.  He had holes (recruiting), but also had so many intangibles that you look for in a big-time coach that he maybe would have grown into something special here...he was young & inexperienced when he was hired.  He respected tradition & TO. I think he spiraled due to pressure primarily caused by OWH sports writers who seemed to love stirring up controversy & pushing Bo's buttons.  Ah well...all ancient history now.

and Osborne tried to instill that again, and despite his meanyness towards the press and ahole fans Pelini never won less than 9 and even if you think Pelini should have been fired what we have now is Callahan II

History should be a predictor and learning lessons for the future-

I was wholeheartedly against firing Pelini at the time he was fired.  Yes, the guy was less than perfect, but had a ton of potential.

How about hiring a Chancellor who will get us back in the Big 12, then hiring someone like Dave Rimington as AD, then hiring Frost or Bohl.........since we're just speculating?

The Big 12 would be a HUGE step-down from the Big 10 in both prestige and profits.  Surely you aren't the type of person who advocates cowering and/or running from a challenge?

MR is not going to make it the Big 12 is starting and we are looking lost.

To think we fired Solich!     Never went 10-3 since!

Ad hired a dud and I knew that living in Oregon.

Yep...Frank was a solid coach, and a true steward of the Devaney/Osborne legacy.

MR isn't likely going anywhere soon, so honest question. Win out? Top 5 recruiting class? Fire a coordinator? Fire a coach? Bench a player?

-For me, I'm benching a certain guard who's feet are stuck in the mud.

-Benching an outside LB who is consistently late to plays and misses tackles.

-Letting the offense know that no one's job is safe and that you will earn your job each and every practice.

-Parting ways with CAV THIS WEEK.

-Parting ways with DAVIS AFTER THE SEASON.

-Parting ways with the TE Coach AFTER THE SEASON, no excuse that scholarship TEs can beat out two walkons.

-Parting ways with the S&C Coach THIS WEEK because he spends more time than anyone with the players and his job is far greater than getting the players stronger (i.e. make sure they are accountable in the weight room, and if someone is late or misses a workout punishing the whole group not just that individual).

-Yelling at Langs that he needs to be consistent with the running game, and telling him inside your own five for the first two downs you are run the ball.

    He still has mine.

So over the past two seasons, whenever I posted something on this board that was negative about MR, I have been attacked, lambasted, jeered, lampooned, etc. So, I will choose to take a more positive approach and look at what NU might accomplish this season.

So, does this team have a path to 5 wins this year? The last time Nebraska only won 5 was when Callahan was the coach (twice, and the second of those got him fired). And the last time NU only managed 4 wins was in 1961 (of course Jennings only had 10 games to get it done, and only winning 4 did get him bounced). So with a 12 game season, NU can surely surpass the 4 win mark...right?

So, what do you think? What is Nebraska's path to 5 wins this season?

I think they beat Rutgers and Purdue, but with that big early-season victory over Ark State, that would only add up to 3 wins. So Riley and staff would have to grab victories over, perhaps Northwestern and Illinois, to avoid a truly pathetic show of ineptitude only equalled by the coach who basically said that football didn't matter (although, as stated above, even Jennings had a better winning percentage than Riley would this year if he can only get four marks in the win column).

There you go...was this nice enough and positive enough for you? I would hate to get all negative about a coach and face another onslaught of attacks from MR apologists.

Next year will be better.  This is more of a rebuilding year (new QB & new defensive scheme)...I predict 8-9 or maybe even 10 wins next season.

Put the whacky tobaccy and the pipe down, you've done smoked yourself handicapped.

I get it - this is disappointing, but the regents & admin have gone all-in on Riley & Co.  He will be Head Coach for at least 2-3 more years before handing the reigns to Langs.

I love my huskers but I truly believe we have a worse athletic director the peterson and a worse coach than Callahan. I still expect to win this game. At what point do you almost hope to lose enough games by enough points to make change happen. I enjoy winning if we are ever to compete in the big 10 we need better administration and a heck of a better coach!

It takes a while to rebuild the culture and install this offense and defense.  Be patient.

  13. Offense: O-line play...zero sacks given-up, plenty of time in the pocket for TL, and 8+ yards per carry from the rotation of backs.

Defense: All of them...less than 225 yards total offense allowed, 4+ QB sacks, and 2+ turnovers.  Look for heavy and varied blitz packages to be unveiled today.

    Final Score:

    NU 54

    NI 10
