  1.

The guys mentality reminds me of Wes Welker ... now with the Dolphins ... he knows how to score and will do anything for the team.

Uhh, dude, Wes Welker has played for the Patriots for two seasons now...

Man, you are fast, I just posted that and caught it, and before I made the change you had made this post.

Wow, we need to get you a job DeathCultAmraggedon ... glad you are N and not an OU or Horn fan.

  2. Here is a link to a video profile The Dallas Morning News did on Rex Burkhead about a month ago.

Enjoyed this two minute video ... and it speaks "loudly" about the kind of player we have in Rex and his family. Reminded me of myself growing up, except I didn't have his talent, but my room looked alot like his.

This is the kind of "intangible" that you can't put in "stars". The guys mentality reminds me of Wes Welker ... now with the Patriots ... he knows how to score and will do anything for the team.

I'm excited to have Rex on our team.

  3. Well Gents, a few weeks ago I wrote a post complaining that Nebraska was only #41 in recruiting so far. I'm pleased to (apparently) be the first on the board to announce we are now at #25, ahead of missouri, texas tech, and some other big names. Still behind 25 other schools though, so keep up the good work Bo and Crew.

    GO BIG RED!!!!

I don't know why a post like this always brings the "faithful" to a debate about "stars" and "rankings" ...

I'm just glad that areyouserious can finally rest at night ... cause I know this has kept him up at nights.

I like our class ... but I won't be surprized to see us finish in the top 40, rather than the top 25, but I like the "gets" thus far, regardless of how the "experts" rank it.

  4. I sent off an email to the Administration office this morning ... just short and sweet.

To me, it makes so much sense to have Turner Gill as our Assistant Head Coach. What a great coach and recruiter we would add to this team. We can get find a way to him here, find him a spot ... pay for it.

I want him in our family ... GET ER' DUN!

I'm not stating this to hear all the reason why it can't happen.

    Junior film....

"Shades" of Johnny the Jet Rodgers in some of those moves ... that's what I saw. I can here Lyle Bremser saying, "Oh man, what a move that was." Some great cuts ... good speed and some nice power.

  6. ESPN can kiss my ass. Stock Down? I would think our stock is up considerably from last year.

No worries there bro. It's just an opinion. And according to the "statistics" he is looking at ... he is factually correct. Those that put a higher "weight" in those areas will make those judgments ... as they should and most would.

Everyone knows "stars" mean something and lots of great talent comes out of 2-3 star athletes ... so we have done a solid recruiting class for the year ... with a coaching staff in place and some time to work the plan.

The article is spot on in my opinion ... we have lots of work to do and we are competing in areas that many competitors are strong ... we have also dropped into the same catagory as A&M, TT, Mizzou, Colorado, Kansas, Kansas State (a few of those teams we are behind right now). The next few years will be about seperating our team from them and starting to challenge the TX/OU teams.

Sometimes I think we should take a chill pill ... media typically give "respect" to teams that are due it ... I don't think we deserve much respect yet ... I just know that I like what I see ... and recruits see who Bo is and what he can do ... and that is exciting.

It's ok to be a sleeping giant while you get things in place.

  7. Curious to see if Spurier (spelling) going to Auburn affects Giles committment?

Folks on the board were saying that he probably got "promised" something and would get a free, easy ride ... and that is why he committed. Don't know about any facts on that ... but ...

if Spurier does go to Auburn, the lack of stability that Giles has gone thru now with the Vols .. and then the Gamecocks ... I would think that the Husker tradition at RB and the obviously upswing of Bo's Defense would still make our Huskers a great selection.

It was on espn 103.3 here in Dallas today that I heard that Auburn wants Spurier for five years. Spurier wants a three year contract, with his brother I believe included with his brother being the next coach.

Well, I put this out, perhaps other sources can come in here now and comment. I'm more of a reader here than a poster of information ... so maybe this helps a few mod's to confirm.

Hope I didn't open any can of worms ... was just looking for some input.

    Thanks,

    SheepdogMark

  8. I may have to eat my words, but so be it. If he makes a decision based of the smoke and mirrors then he deserves what he gets. If he wants to play and earn a spot he should come to Nebraska, if he wants it handed to him then he should go elsewhere. I still stand by my quote he will be here and all that comes with it if he goes elsewhere.

What "evidence" from any source is there that someone is blowing hot smoke up anyone's butt to get Jarvis? I was just wondering, several posts have signaled that others are "low-ballin" promises like such. I know in earlier posts Giles said of his Gamecock visit, "They were saying how much they need me, telling me that I'm a gamechanger. They were talking about how I can have an impact on the program."

Personally, I don't know of any recruiter, including Nebraska, that wouldn't say the same thing to a recruit ... and be 100% true and as well have a clear conscience. As well, I can't think of any of these programs Giles might go to where he won't have to "earn it".

    My two cents,

  9. That Hawkins kid really impressed me. He made some great throws and can certainly thread the needle. That's a really good team next year or so. Man the whole North looks to improve with Snyder back at K-State and these Buffs that came in here to play today.

  10. This game ranks up there with the Missery TD catch, the Aggies game and the 94 Orange Bowl (I am still looking for that clip call). I am just glad that I got to see each one of them the first time around. God I love college football! :clap

I didn't think it was a classic at all. It was a lucky win. It turned out to be an exciting game because we just kept finding ways to throw the game away ... to me a classic is when two teams go toe to toe and it's the last punch thrown that gets a victory. This should not have been that close of a game at all.

  11. Not really a whole lot to be excited about in this "W" today. We had a bad team on our home field and allowed them to take it down to the wire ... and then took a miracle kick to win.

This was a setback ... yes, a win, and who wouldn't take it, but man o' man, if this didn't remind me of alot of OU games where we had the better team and found a way to lose it.

If I was a CU fan, I'd be proud of that effort ... the word "bitter" is just a bad choice of words. My compliments to the CU fan here.

A great game today by Colorado for where they were as a team. This team looks to be very tough the next 2-3 years.

  12. Now I know we (Bo) doesn't evaluate teams based on "stars" or rating services, but as fans that is really all we have to go on. With the season winding down, and looking toward the continual re-building of Nebraska, I wanted to see how we are doing for recruiting:

    ...

Now I have full confidence that bo will do the right things and what not, and it is still really early, but man, I hope he pulls as awesome recruiting class in the end. thoughts?

I took the middle of your quote out, to just save space.

Your original post has yet to be answered ... and that is sad. I thought you asked a good question. At the root, you were asking "I wanted to see how we are doing for recruiting?" You seemed to be saying, "I hope he (Bo) pulls in an awesome recruiting class in the end. Any thoughts?"

I like those questions ... you even tried to state that you know people get focused on stars, as that's all folks like "us" have to go on.

The board has now gone on to 20-30 posts debating an issue that you were not asking. Thus, maybe this post might redirect this waste of space to the issue ...

Does anybody have any thoughts on how recruiting has gone thus far? Where are our strengths in this class? Where are we weak? Who are some guys we have missed out on? Is there anybody on the horizon that we might land to fill a need? What gems have we landed? What is the surprize sleeper?

I'd love to have those that really know something to speak up ... and those that don't know squat to shut their mouths. We all understand stars and the system in place ... please stop telling me something I already know debating me on an issue that I'm not asking. :clap

  13. When I lived in Missouri, the Southwest Missouri State Bears had a better football, baseball and basketball teams. The Bears couldn't seem to get a game against them in football. Mizzou would play them in baseball, and usually lose and in basketball it was a 50/50 toss up.

It is nice to see now that Mizzou has some football fans. I suppose all those years of learning to spell ...

  14. Don't run like no woman i know:

Michael said following his big game, "I just let the game come to me, played my best and followed the line."

It sounds like the key to getting this guy as a recruit is too get the offensive line to commit first ... he will then follow them to the big N.

PS. Here's another profile about a player we have chance at ... from what it sounds.

  15. My line on the game is 7 points, seeing that it is at K-fart, so, I agree with it.

To me, this game is a total toss-up at this point. They will be ready to play and the QB is very dangerous. If we come to play and play error free, then we win by 21 or more.

It's up to the Huskers to determine the "if".

  16. I live at Lake Kiowa, TX, just outside Dallas near a small town called Gainesville. So, you probably heard of Winstar Casino's, I work there.

Ozark is a school we played against as well. I went to Camdenton, a good high school football team. We play lots of KC, St. Louis and Springfield schools. Ozark is our arch rival now, them and Waynesville are two great high school programs.

Always interesting to find others you have some background with,

  17. I don't know if K-State would pull the trigger ... and the person would accept, because of his ties to us ... but Turner Gill would be coming in at a great time at K-State ... one of the best up and coming coaches.

I would hate it ... but that's why I would go to any length to get him under the Husker embrella as Assistant Head Coach yesterday.

    SheepdogMark

No matter how strong the ties are to NU, there is no way he would accept what amounts to a demotion to be Asst. HC. Especially since he is doing such a good job in Buffalo that his name comes up for almost every high profile College HC job that comes open. He will get plenty of chances this year and next, question is when he feels right about moving on.

Oh don't get me wrong ... I agree with your post. However, if I were Osborne, I would atleast try to get this man on our team. Once I hear that it has been offerred, personally, I would feel better. I've never heard about any conversation with Turner for any coaching job at NU. Has anybody else.

    Just curious about that,

  19. I know Chris personally. I played against him in grade school, played against him and junior high, and played with him freshman year before moving so Missouri.

He is a great athlete, with monster hands. He plays for Martin High School and has put up pretty big numbers this season 600+ receiving. Martin went started 0-6 but has since won there last 4 games and is a #1 seed in their district. Chris plays for a great staff headed by Coach Wager. I was never able to play fro him because he came the year I moved, but he turned that whole team around.

I think we have a good shot at him, and I'm going to try and get in touch with him and see what his plans are and what kind of offers he has on the table

Where you from in MO? I went to school in Springfield at Missouri State, then SMSU and we owned a resort at Lake of the Ozarks called Robin's Resort.

  20. I still say that Blackshirts should be handed out to individuals, one at a time. In my mind, Suh got his today.

Absolutely disagree. They are the 'Blackshirts' (note plural) not Blackshirt. The tradition of the starting D and one or two other significant contributors wearing black during practices is the whole point, hence the term 'Blackshirts Defense'! They were never intended to be handed out to single individuals like a gddmned buckeyes or something. :bonez

I absolutely disagree with this post. To me, the "Blackshirts" represent players on the team that have the mindset, the mentality of the N defense tradition. The idea is that there would be more than one, but it happens one player at a time ... developing that mindset. From what I understsand, a "buckeye" is handed out as a reward for getting something done in a game ... a pancake block as an example.

However, for the Blackshirts, it's a reward/recognition to show the team and the Nation that this guy represents what Husker D is all about.

I didn't see the game, but sounds like Suh had a great game. I don't have an opinion on who and when, but I do think you reward a player as you see him setting the example of what is expected.

  21. I saw on Husker Illustrated through Yahoo that this guy Chris, Omigie, from Arlington, TX, was having a pretty good senior season and set for a visit. He is a WR, like 6-foot-5, 185 pounds.

Didn't see him on the WR list. Any board folks got any info on the guy that they can post, I'll be looking for a follow up.

    Thanks,

  22. If not just for wins but also recruiting, I would want games w/ teams from hotbeds for talent.

    1. Any Florida school

    2. Any California school

    3. Any Louisiana school

Next, I would try to setup a series with a BCS conference school if #1-3 was not....

    1. SEC school

    2. PAC-10 school

    3. Big 10 school

    etc.,etc.

Loved this post ... and I would add that we should schedule these conferences on four (4) year cycles and then gradually move one out, example, SEC and move in another good conference like the ACC. In addition, select a top tier in one conference, a middle in another and a bottom dweller in the third. Yes, the teams will shift by the time games are played, but that is life, all teams will move up or down ... so will we.

I'm just don't like being 4-0 or 5-0 all while knowing that we will will finish in the middle of the Big 12 North. I'd rather lose now and build the program then pull a K-State.
