That’s not how I read it. Following is what was said back in November. If still accurate the buyout doesn’t go back up until renegotiation or extension.

Nebraska coach Scott Frost’s new contract buyout goes into effect Oct. 1, 2022. If fired next year, he’s owed $7.5M (down from $15M) on a prorated basis, $5M in 2023, $2.5M in 2024 and $1.25M in 2025. If fired without cause before Oct. 1, 2022, the old buyout remains effective.

Yes, I believe you are correct there.

The difference in view is what happens if he meets his metrics.  From the article I read on Hail Varsity:

If Frost and the football team achieve “metrics mutually agreed to by the parties (next year),” his salary will return to $5 million for 2023 and he will receive a one-year contract extension through Dec. 31, 2027.

I know his buyout gets cut in half after 10.01.22, but when does it start going back up?   I feel he gets let go, as soon as Nebraska is eliminated from post season play or right before his buyout starts going up, whichever comes first.

It basically goes back to what it was prior ... oh, and he gets another year added to his contract.  So, to keep him is to actually be in the same situation for an additional year.  They really set it up as a "Win" for Scott.  Yes, we save some in one season ... but if we keep him then it all goes back to what it was prior and he gets another year.

  3. I would be fine with firing Scott today.

For me, it would be the best opportunity for the team to see how many games could be won without his hand in the cookie jar.  If he stays, at least banish him to the booth or give him a clipboard.  He doesn't get to make any ST calls nor call plays.

With an interim coach like MJ, he would get two easy games and really 4/5 as pretty easy tests to see what we got in him.  Whip would/should be good on his own and if at the end of the season you don't like what you got you hire above MJ.

I won't rant against Scott, but to wait to the end of the season is to miss the better opportunity as I see it.

  4. I was at 5-7 in my prediction prior and still am.  I did believe we would win the NW game by 24.  I thought we'd win and really amp up expectations.  Obviously, that didn't happen.

I'm surprised by this loss but with the easy schedule we are still on track for my prediction.  A 5-7 record might be more of the ceiling but it was just one game.

    Feeling good here.

Most people are rightfully talking about the stupid onside kick, but the two time outs before half time that led to another NW score were just as baffling.  The defense had clearly shown they weren't very good by that point in the game, yet Nebraska decides to risk it for a chance to get the ball back?  I was yelling at the TV after each TO.

Scott was being "creative" in his own mind.  :-)  He likes to be creative.

  6. Maybe the answer [since we were told the defense needed to have "Blackshirts" given out because they worked so hard] or solution is that we come up with "White Baby Diapers" to pass out to the starting OL for getting manhandled.  They wear them during the next game as a reminder, "Oops, last time I crapped my pants".  At worst, they at least get some extra padding on their butt where they often get knocked onto.

As bad as it is.  Riley was worse.  They were on their way to a winless season if he stayed.  I have no doubt.

For me ... this type of statement comes off as "apologist".  It's like Frost stating yesterday that "the offense needed to get a bit more creative".  He makes it out like that was the problem ... when he bloviated all off-season about all his improvements.  None was more clear than in his OL and DL.  Those guys are working so hard they are throwing up in practices.  Then, in a game they get manhandled by another bottom dweller team and have no push on D.

At present, Knebraska is on it's was to a winless season.  Ya, we know it won't happen because it's a puff schedule.

I think it's worse because Frost has set himself up to state that there has been so much improvement ... but the game film and score shows the facts.  I don't know why anyone wants to justify it ... but they do.  What gives?

I bet Mike Riley would tell him to go to Oklahoma

Yep, and I think I would respect him more for that then coming to Knebraska under Frost.   Kid would be an absolute idiot to at this point.  Obviously, he's not as he's positioned his way through the gaslighting of Frost and will be able to justify his direction.  It only took one game.

I know our fan base wants to mock a coach from five [5] years ago an some of his stupidity ... but it feels strange when we are sittin' in the filth of Frost.

Malachi will do great at Ole Miss, Georgia or USC. With that showing today we might as well kiss him goodbye

It would best serve us if he went to a B1G school like NW, Iowa or Wisky.  He would look great at OSU or Michigan.

Coaches make calls like on-side kicks in the first half when they're feeling the pressure they're under to improve.  That's totally a stress-induced call.

I learned that I'm going to have to figure out something to do on Saturdays because I can't do this to myself for another season.  I can't spend an entire off-season full of optimism and excitement only to see all of those hopes dashed because nothing has improved.

I learned that Nebraska has the absolute best, GOAT hype-team of any college in the US.  They spent months putting out incredible hype videos and pretty much telling the fanbase that things are going to be different this season.  And many of us believed it.  At least, I believed it.

And what I saw today was heartbreaking.

I had a girlfriend do this sort of thing to me once.  My friends begged me to get her out of my life.  She was abusive and cruel.  I'm waiting for them to tell me the same thing about this team.

    It's called "gaslighting".

He's got a chance to be the best 2-10 team in the country.

  11. We have a new coach coming.  It's a bit earlier than I would have thought.

Coaching still has blunders.  OL can't block.  DL can't force pressure.  Defense can't tackle.  Abad Special Teams call.  Didn't see any transfer portal players really stand out.

    We are KNebraska.

  12. It's a 24 point win.  Easy shmeezly [hey, that's Jewish, ha ha].

I'm confident that we start it off with a fantastic win that really heightens the idea that we are back and with the easy schedule will take the year by storm.

I'll be hopeful for more of my BigRedN avatar and less of the BigBlackK avatar.
