I'll be watching more closely the DL recruiting this season.  It looks like Poppel is the top guy so far that we have interest from.  In "prediction", he is 59% in our camp.  Outside of him, is anyone high on Borchers, Smith, Wilson, Hill, Horton and Buckey?  It looks like most everyone there are 3*.

I noticed we made the final four for Howard, so that guys looks like a 4 star also.

Anyone have a DL prospect that they would put up a "watch list" to follow their high school season and they think we should recruit?

It’s a damn shame we now have the staff/NIL in place and we may only get one year to try to turn the whole damn thing around…wasted money with guys like Held, Verdu, a slew of terrible WR coaches, & Austin. Damn.

This is one of the bigger reasons why even a 5-7 record this year will be enough.  This will be "the sell" that will win out even if the 8-4 record isn't earned.

Wow so out of all the husker fans on this board nobody believes he can turn it around? Does anyone not believe in the players he is bringing on? Bc with 5-7 or 6-6 record your telling it doesn't matter who they brought in. Your pretty much telling me that SF is a bum a** coach. I dont believe that for a second. So what happens if SF has the success or close to success of Michigan State are you guys going to give him his credit or am i going to hear you did yourself well but it took you long enough??? or not even that bc you will immediately start looking into next year and say he's not going to substance it.

I think your posts shows you that you joined the board on May 20th of this year ... 8 days ago.

Quite a few of the folks you see posting have been die-hard fans and even on this board for a good number of years.  We will be elated to see :bigredn: competive and go 8-4 or 9-3.  There will be more than enough praise and it would put hope in our sails.

A number of contributing members have bloviated 11-1, 10-2 and 9-3 seasons since Frost came in.  So, for me, it's refreshing to see them see 6-6 or 5,7 finally.  I think my best optimistic record since Frost got here was 8-4 [and I was the pessimist].  After the 4-8 seasons and always being "one player away", maybe our emotions don't think that a few more of the "one more player" comments move our emotion bar.  BUT, I will give Scott kudos for going 8-4 if he gets that done. That is more than doable for these circumstances.

  4. I don't really have much doubt that we start of 4-1 with a good loss to OU.  From there, I think it is reasonable to get to 5-7 or 6-6.  I'm not concerned at all.

6 wins is bare minimum IMO, but setting the standard at 6 wins in year 5 just makes me shake my head.

I think we need to actually see the team play before making any specific win numbers to keep his job.  What if we go 7-5, but still see the same mistakes as we have seen the last 4 years?  Or we go 8-4, but lose all 4 games by 20+.  Sure we won more games, but is that really progress?

If he gets kept with a losing record then just shut the program down because that would show that we are not trying to win anymore.

I'm still in the 5-7 record camp ... and believe it will be enough.  Even without an OU win.  It will be an "ah shucks, we made so many good strides, hires and fill-ins, that we gotta give him one more year".  Everyone will need to remember that we are so close ... we are one player away ... and this is a really good team [he loves these kids].

Jones Jr and Hardy will be processed out next year. They're tackling dummies until then.

NIL has totally "revolutionized" the game for the better [so I'm told], so for me, I'm a fan now of just one-year scholarships and those based on performance even during the year.  If Jones Jr and Hardy are just "tackling dummies" the cost is way too high to be paying tuition for even a year.  If the "good gets" deserve NIL money and cash dollars, okay, then certainly, those who don't measure up or pan can be done away with rather than "processed out the next year".

I know Vince knows I'm not directing that at him, but for those who think all the changes are great, ya, I'm for the kids ... but if we are taking economics, money and real life world ... then their can't be an "amateur" status or an underperformance spot for the non-productive [as I see it].  These kids must perform or be gone while paying their taxes.

My son is in his 3-4th year in the Coast Guard and continues to excel and gain new skills and responsibilities.  Yet, one of the most difficult tasks for him is to maintain his 186 pound requirement for his weight.  He continues to cycle through failing to hit the measurement and is given I think 3 months to "get back into protocol".  If he fails then he is discharged.  He loves his job but literally struggles to make weight for the initial test or when under a "warning".  It sucks ... but it is life for him.  He's really an exceptional person and would be a nice addition to any team, organization or business ... but if he fails in that one area he is cut after a short time frame.  With NIL and today's desired climate by the athlete, it seems that some "real world" could apply here.

Well everyone believes that the Huskers make a bowl game but not much confidence in the win loss record. I will say that I don't have a prediction on record but feel very optimistic that this season will be way better then last. Qb, running back, wide receivers, defense line they are all up grades just got to put it all together as a team which they will do.

And yet, it's the OL that will really impact the QB and RB ... and that's why there is still some good question marks about what we have.  We added some OL talent ... so it will take another season to see if those were the changes necessary.  For me, the season still rests in those last four games when we are probably most wore down ... what we have there in the tank will be the real "eye ball test" for me.

So you think we can have a losing season still and he keeps his job? That would be ridiculous and we'd be a bigger joke than we are right now.

Ya, that's my view.  I think even if Frost goes 5-7, that with what they brought via coach changes and portal transfers, that he still gets another year.  That's not my opinion/view ... that's just how I see the higher ups view of themselves and the situation.

    My season prediction is 5-7.

Are you saying that you don't see any reason why we would have more than 1 loss in our first 8 games?  Have you actually watched Nebraska football the last handful of years?

Ya, I don't see any reason to not win all of those games except Oklahoma.  This is based off of a really easy schedule and all the improvements the staff continues to make.  Again, I'm going off of what I'm being told.  It's not that I believe it or would put money on it.  I've been a "Negative Nancy" for the past three years so I stopped stating my view.  I've been told by Mods that I am a "sky is falling" kind of guy when it comes to the horrid OL play [which I get].  So, my post wasn't about "my view" but what I perceive the majority of folks who look at the schedule think/say.

And yes, I've watched every game.

    Thanks for chimin' in.

  10. For me, I don't see any reason to only have one [1] loss for the whole season until you get to the last four [4] games.

So, I'm curious to ask what the board think our record would be if we only played these four games:

    11/05 Minnesota
    TBA11/12@ Michigan
    TBA11/19 Wisconsin
    TBA11/25@ Iowa

My hope would be at least 2-2.  I think we will only win one and couldn't say which.

What's your take?  I'm of the view that we will be wore down and stumble into old views ... just like I'm doing now.  :-)

    Who thinks that?

Oh Geez, I've been ripped and mocked again and again over my statements about the horrid OL for the past two years.  It was this past season that more of the board moved a little bit more "right".  The fascinating part has been to see that the same folks who were stating year after year that we would go 10-2, 9-3 or 8-4 are the same folks who for whatever reason also were supportive of the OL in both talent and development.  Guys that have a more modest view of the OL continue to have had as a "high" on wins/losses as 7/5 but more of us have been in the 6-6 or 5-7, which has still granted the team a better outcome that what was earned.

So, if you want to see "who thinks that" ... just go back to threads as recent as 1.5 years ago and you will see it a pretty positive view toward the OL in comparison to these 4-8 merited records.  For me, I was being told I am a "sky is falling type of guy" for my view toward the horrid OL play.  After a while, there is really no need to restate a view that the majority ridicules one on.  Again, today, the board is in a bit of a different view.

Ah...Breece Hall...The coaches messed that one up.

I don't know if he would have been any good here.  For those who think we have had a good OL ... then ya, he probably would have.  It was a good choice for him that we "messed that one up".

  13. Gotta be so pleased with our Huskers getting drafted thus far.  It's a nice outcome.  So glad to see Cam go so high.  Hope he becomes a staple in the NFL and has a better career in the NFL than Remington.  That is possible.  He can become whatever he wants.

I was bummed to see him go to the Eagles and also to see Breece Hall go to the Jets.  I realize Breece is not a Husker, but I've enjoyed following him and was a fav I wanted :bigredn:.  I think he will be a good pro.  It seems tougher for a RB to have a long career and make it to the Hall of Fame ... but I think Breece will be a great one [but I hate the Jets].

  14. Maybe I'm just "butt hurt" ... but I'm not a fan of where NIL is going and I think in the end that it will be those with the big pockets and know how to "skirt" the gray areas that will win.  That won't be :bigredn: in my opinion.  It seems that Nebraskan's want to be the liberal, elite type folks ... but because of the nature of Nebraskan's [being more of a Bible belt mentality], we won't be able to push the "edges" quite like the liberal elite folks.

In it all ... I'm not wondering how taxes will work out in all this.  If these kids deserve a free scholarship [+ free medical care] and making  a million dollars a year ... then certainly they can afford to pay taxes on it all.  At least, if you want recognition for your name, image and likeness, I would think that means that you can also face real world taxes.

How does all this look or work for these guys?

Really should be going all in on this one and stop wasting time with Raiola IMO

Hmmm, I thought we have and are.  I think it will be more of a case where both players have better options.  It won't be that we don't want them or haven't pursued them.

  16. 9 hours ago, I am I said:

Tackles are the most well paid OL in the NFL for a reason. They are hard to come by.
If wethinks there is some stud in the portal sitting there ready to come in and hail us to pipeline prominence we are sadly mistaken. The best and/or ready OL players are already on their team and are ready to play for that team now. There is no one we could magically pluck from the portal that might fix our problem. Get over it.

everyone jizzes over a QB, WR, RB, passrusher transfer. But I don’t see a lot of buzz over 4/5 star OL transfers anywhere in the nation,  because they are rare or don’t exist.

The OL needs to be grown in house. We have what we have. I hope we are healthy and have growth by fall because that could be good enough to win us some games.

No OL is coming in to save us. We got our new QB transfer, WR transfer, Vok was a transfer, juco RB transfer,…there are no OL transfer guys who are plug n play. We have what we have.

Alabama just got this guy as a transfer yesterday ... Vanderbilt OL Tyler Steen.  So, there are improvement options ... we just don't win those or see those.  This guy has to beat out 4-5* OL already on the team and is expected to do so.

We don't need guys like this ... we are set.  :-)  I'm with you, OL need to be grown in house.  Unfortunately, we are just now seeing that our "greenhouse" was not set up for success enough to develop the talent we believed was good enough.

  17. He's going to be wearing red/maroon ... it's just probably going to be USC, OU or OSU.  This one will sort of fall into another recruit where it's like, "Man, who else would we have gotten to buy in had we not wasted five years of mistakes."
