  1. Rumor out here in Oregon is that Riley is lobbying to keep his job tonight.......Good recruiting classes, needs more time, blah blah.  I can't imagine that Moos will keep him though.  Best of luck in getting Frost if things do go your way this weekend!  We're shakin in our boots about Oregon States next coach......I mean how low can we go when our coach is "mutually" let go after 5 games this season,  unless we get Riley back!  YIKES!!!

HA!  That's probably the best "quote"  I've ever read!  Thanks for the laugh :D

The post you're quoting has two linked articles supporting that conclusion. You've got a screen name and 4 posts. You're going to have to post something more than "believe me" to be taken seriously.

I can understand that!  I'm a Corvallis, Oregon native so I'm an Oregon State fan, but NO fan of Riley, and since UO is only 40 miles south most of us are also UO fans until the Civil War. In fact many households in Oregon are "mixed".  We have 4 sons, all OSU grads and one of our daughters-in-law is a UO grad. Our youngest son is a good friend of Mike Bellotti's nephew, also named Mike Bellotti. I'm a female who loves sports, but not with nearly as much football knowledge as all of you.

I guess the reason I came over to visit your board is my interest in your surprise hiring of Bill Moos, especially knowing his connection to Mike Riley, and very familiar with the histories of both men and the athletic depts they worked for.  I don't know how much money the poster considers "substantial" giving by Phil Knight before 1996 but it seemed substantial to us. Phil Knight didn't need to be "brought in" by anybody.  His father was donating enough to have his name on campus buildings before Phil did.  No, Bill Moos wasn't lying about "money trees" but Knight had a great deal of influence before Moos came along.  The article I read about the greeting Riley gave Moos yesterday was a very good representation of their relationship....The two men are friends!  I don't know if it will make any difference in whether or not he fires Riley, but it will be very interesting to watch.

Now I'll get back to the huge mess we have going on in our own football program and not bother you guys.  Good luck with the rest of your season!

Phil Knight may be an alumnus, and been "actively involved" in the past, but he never gave substantial sums of money to the athletic department until 1996 (football practice facility).  Bill Moos was hired in 1995.  Seems likely that he had a hand in bringing Knight in, at least based on that timeline.  Also consider what Bill said in his introductory presser about "money growing on trees" at Oregon.  It wasn't at the time he was hired.

Oh I'm sorry, I should have known that you would have more information in South Dakota reading articles than someone who's been around the UO football program since 1975!

  5. Just a small correction to an earlier post saying that Moose brought Phil Knight to Oregon.  Phil Knight graduated from Oregon and Stanford.  He ran track at Oregon and co-founded Nike with his track coach.  He's given billions of dollars to both schools and has always been actively involved at Oregon.

  6. As I am a Corvallis, Oregon native I know both Bill Moose and Mike Riley.......not best friends but have met them both socially.  I think you'll like Moose, the man.  He has a good reputation, very friendly and has done a very good job at WSU.  Those that have mentioned that Kilkenny had more to do with Chip Kelly's hire and money brought in are correct.  Moose got on the bad side of Phil Knight because of the basketball program as I remember.

The problem with Moose may be the fact that he and Mike Riley have pretty much the same personality and I think they're friends!  I can't imagine that he didn't promise to fire Riley on day one, but it was a surprise that out of all the ADs in the country they'd pick Moose!  Just hope Riley doesn't snow Moose with the "give me another year....I've got great recruits" BS.

  7. Well you are certainly correct that Oregon State has been worse with Andersen than with Riley(hard to believe).  OSU has been a disaster for the last 2yrs. with that jackass as head coach. However after he was (mutually-HA) let go this week the team played a great game today and lost 36-33 to Colorado, which is still a loss I get it, but OSU as been getting beat every week like you were tonight!  I digress...... but after watching the 2nd half of your game I doubt that Riley is going to be able to poach ANY commits let alone Oregon State's.  As Huskers93-97 said you should learn from your past mistake of taking anything from Oregon State or we might send you Andersen!  And NO nobody here wants Riley back!! LOL
