After the Iowa game.  You don’t gain or lose anything by doing it now.

I think you do gain something.  You gain removing a head coach who looks defeated and remove that  general culture of hopelessness.   I realize that an interim coach isn't going to perform miracles, but let's face it, the season is over functionally.   Let's start reversing the toxic atmosphere of losing and start sanitizing the environment for the new coach coming on board.

cans diaco on monday mark my words hes gone

Riley isn't going to can Diaco.   Riley has been around this business long enough that he knows his days at Nebraska are over.  He isn't going to can his DC a 2nd year in a row, especially when he knows it would be a meaningless termination as Riley knows he would be 10 seconds right behind Diaco.  Not happening friend.

Literally no staff changes at this point save his job.  Nothing short of somehow flipping enough top recruits and magically conjuring up the a #1 class would save him, even then...

It doesn't matter if they recruit well.  You could give this coaching staff an entire class of 5 start recruits and it wouldn't matter because this staff couldn't coach them how to tackle and block.  They simply aren't a staff up to the task.

Would you, because frankly im a nice guy but im not taking any s#!t less than what was promised to me.  That was my employers fault for giving me the money, i know we all want to think were better than the average dollar but.........most of us arent.

I was being sarcastic.   Obviously he won't voluntarily give back any of the money.  Although the Oregon State Coach (Anderson) that replaced Riley voluntarily resigned and did not take any severance or take the balance of his salary.

    Offense:

-Wilbon stops before contact.  No idea why he starts.

    -Speilman is great.

-POBs pocket presence is 10 times better than Lee

    Defense:

-Worst tackling I've seen in my life.  You can tell they don't practice.  They approach the ball carrier like its "touch".  They reach and don't square up.

-Our corners don't understand zone.  Even when someone is in their zone, they stay off em.

    Coaching:

    -Obvious

-Timeouts at the end of the game.  Unreal.

Yes, and don't forget our wonderful offensive line that is standing straight up while our quarterback is getting slaughtered by the other team's defense.   I've seen spectators on the sidelines that move more than some of our linemen do at the game.

Nothing can save Riley at this point and frankly I’d be surprised if he ever coaches again anywhere.

I heard his buyout is like $8M?!!!?  Is that true?  God I hope that is not true.  He’s not worth $80 more dollars.

He not only isn't worth the $8 million buy out, if he was as nice as everyone says he is and has a conscious, he should offer us a rebate for part of his 3 years of salary.

I was at the Miami Nebraska game in 2015. The Miami fans were talking all game long about how much they disliked Al Golden. There was an airplane flying over the stadium flying a fire Al Golden banner. It was a very heartbreaking OT loss to Miami. But what stood out to me was how Miami was beating us real bad all game long but the Canes faltered and let us back in the game. All the Miami fans attributed the comeback to Golden;s incompetent coaching.

Watching Miami tonight, and this year, that program has been resurrected. The Canes hired a proven winner, and an alum. If they can do it so can Nebraska.

Never forget, we are Nebraska! no one can take away who we are and where we have been. And believe it or not no one can stop where we are going. I believe that our Resurrection is coming. Frost loves Nebraska football just as much as you or I. Have faith, keep your heads up. This train wreck is about to be a distant memory.

"Never forget, we are Nebraska! no one can take away who we are and where we have been. And believe it or not no one can stop where we are going."

While I appreciate your enthusiasm, your sentiment is the problem with Nebraska football.

We were Nebraska because we won;   we didn't win because we were Nebraska.    This stuff doesn't happen just because we continue to label ourselves as something we were 20 years ago.   There has to be a completely different mindset based on tradition but built into the new reality of present day NCAA football.   We have convinced ourselves in this state that we are entitled to win again just because we did in the past.    Forget recreating the 90's; that was then and this is now.    Get back to Big Ten bruiser style runnning, monster offensive lineman and defense and a smattering of solid passing and we are back in the conversation.   It will take an extremely special coach to do that.   If we want to be in the conversation look no further than the Wisconsin model which is basically the old Nebraska model with modern adaptions.

As to nobody can take away who we are and where we have been.   That has been accomplished already via Steve Petersen and Shawn Eichorst.  We are now into rebuilding and recovering what has already been lost.   We have dropped below the mediocrity point.  We have hit the skids and are heading toward rock bottom.  The earlier we recognize and accept this as a fan base and the earlier our large donors and administration recognize what has already occurred  the quicker we get back to becoming the New Nebraska with all of the old traditions but with a new mindset on how to get there.   Tunnel walks and Blackshirts are all great, but they don't build winners.  They have to be earned with a lot of blood, sweat, tears and a group of young men lead by a great coach that believe in each other and have each other's backs.  It has to be with a passion for the New Nebraska created by these young men based on "now"; not what is now a distant past.  When we build on today  measured by wins that is when we become "Nebraska" again.

  8. Here's a thought that would be entertaining if nothing else.  How about we get Frost for head coach and have Jason Peter's as the defensive coordinator?    I bet there would be no doubts on what Peter's expectations would be on defense!   Probably would be Pellini on steriods!

I'm really hoping that if we get Frost he turns out to be a badass, but a nice mild-mannered badass who everyone likes while he's kicking ass and talking tough.....kind of like a cross between Grandpa Bob and Father Tom.

There are coaches out there who firmly make their point and are wildly successful.   I think back to John Wooden at UCLA in basketball or even Bobby Bowden at FSU.    Here is the problem with Riley and most of his assistant coaches:   they are decent people but watch all of them in interviews.   They can't even put together 2 coherent thoughts in an interview.   If they can't verbalize anything in a press conference what makes anybody think these guys can explain "X" and "O"s to college players?    Would listening to any of these clowns light a fire under anyone's rear end?   Confusing and uninspirational.

A little part of me thinks (hopes) that there's an agreement in place, and Riley will "retire" after the Iowa game, and the two sides will settle. He doesn't want to be here, and we don't want him to stay. I would hope it's not about the money, and he can do the honorable thing.

Settle on what?   He has a guaranteed buy out on his contract.   After the beating he has taken from Husker Nation (much of it deserved) do you think he is going to settle for anything than a full buy out for his $2 + million a year?   Husker nation is going to get stuck with another big buy out plus paying a ton of money for a new coach.  Time to bite the bullet and move forward.   Only hope is Riley would get a job that allows us to mitigate our contract.  Nobody is going to hire a 65 year old guy has been on the downhill slide in two Power 5 programs.   We are stuck on the money hook.   Even Pelini still collects his paycheck and that was mitigated by the whopping $200,000 a year he makes at Youngstown State against his $2 million roughly he was paid at Nebraska.  So we still end up paying $1.8 million a year net.

I have mentioned this in responses in other threads, but I want to get other opinions.

I truly believe this next hire, be it this year (hopefully), or later, will be Nebraska's last shot to climb the ladder again. Another failure and apathy will set in. The sellout streak would end, people will care less and younger fans won't gravitate toward being fans. If the fan support starts to dwindle, the last remaining advantage NU has begins to erode.

If we hire one more bad regime of coaches and screw it up, we become Minnesota.   The Golden Gophers, ironically had 5 national championships up to the 1960's.   Since then everything has dwindled.   History repeats itself.   We need to get this next hire correct!
