I always hate this argument. No two teams are equal and play style makes a huge difference. Bo's defenses could lock up the passing teams but power running teams gave his defenses fits. To say osu wouldn't stand a chance against Bama cause Georgia beat the team that beat them is an incomplete argument. Ou plays pass and high score. Compare that to more balanced offenses. Osu may fare better...plus an early season loss does not equal late season...why did auburn whip Georgia early then get whipped late by georgia?

If you want to compare loses, we can look to Iowa, who ROFLstomped OSU late season. UGA would hang 70 on Iowa and not even break a sweat. Auburn has one of the best D lines in the country but the entire team got hit with the flu before the Peach Bowl, which has an effect.  And while UGA lost to them late season, something you seem to not realize, they avenged that loss convincingly in the SEC championship. Like it or not, the 2 best teams in the country are currently playing for the Ship.

The main reason for UGA’s trouble from a defensive standpoint with OU is that they were playing the best QB in College Football, period. JT Barrett isnt even close to Mayfield and UGA’s running backs, which go 5 deep, are like nothing OSU has ever seen.

Also, dont take this as an endorsement that I like either team. Most Bama fans are uneducated rednecks who didnt even attend the school while UGA fans just think they have had relevance for the past 37 yrs that was somehow overlooked. I dislike both teams rather strongly

  2. The SEC is a very top heavy conference right now as compared to years past. Currently only Bama, UGA, and Auburn are worth a darn. In years past, you had LSU, Tenn, Florida as well. This may change with the recent coaching hires and they can go back to beating the heck out of each other. But the top 2 teams are extremely good. Oklahoma lost to UGA and OU beat the s#!t out of OSU so the argument that OSU would beat OU or UGA doesnt hold water.  I personally thought Clemson would handle Bama.

As for the distance travelled statement, its kind of a red herring. UGA plays Auburn, USC, GaTech, Tenn, and UF every year. These teams are all within 4hrs of the campus and in most cAses closer to 2.5 or 3. The South is much more condensed that the Mid-West or West. It’s just how it is. So, yes, UGA doesnt have to travel far but its an apple to oranges argument when comparing to Oregon, OSU, or Southern Cal.

As for the lines, both UGA and Bama are loaded with NFL talent on both sides of their lines. Each team will put more kids into the NFL this year than OSU and this trend will continue. Not sure if you saw UGA’s signing class but its freaking sick. I live in the heart of SEC country and got to see UGA up close and personal this year. They beat OSU 8 out of 10 times with the team they have. I agree that they split with OU over 10 games.

I think you meant Pittsburg beating Miami?  (They did struggle a bit vs Virginia though).  It may not be where they want this minute, but it's near instant improvement.

Yeah, you and ODH are correct. Meant Pitt. Still embarassing but they are playing in the ACC CCG tonight. I dont expect Miami to stand up against the Clemson D Line. That unit is amazing.

And look at Miami with their alum, Richt.

Yeah, I forgot about Ritch. I don’t like him much as a coach as he has done less with more than just about any coach in history. He had teams that were absolutely loaded and still managed at least 1 $h1t the bed game a year. Example this year being Virginia beating Miami. But similar situation to Kirby and UGA, although a year sooner.

  5. Not to create or further incite the crazy expectations crew but the SEC Championship game currently features a team that has a 2nd year coach who went 6-5 last year. Now the cupboard wasn’t nearly as bare for UGA nor is recruiting as tough (Georgia is easily a top 3 state for football recruits) but is shows the upside that can occur when you bring in the “right” guy. Kirby, like SF was a former player for the team he is currently coaching. Here’s to hoping we have a similar trajectory!

Also in his defense, IIRC FSU had the most injured starters throughout the season....Injuries decimated what would've should've been a great team IMHO.

The QB went down first game against Bama but they werent going far with that abortion of an O Line. Us Huskers know how that looks, especially after this year.

  7. Reason for Jimbo leaving FSU is that the Athletic Department, boosters, etc. wanted him to fire his DC and OL coach as they are bums. Issue was they were Jimbo guys and he refused. So he was on the hot seat anyways and when aTm (literally a cash machine) came calling, he took off. FSU had been expecting this and has Taggert pretty much locked up.

I went to Grad school at FSU (I slept with the enemy, I know) and due to its proximity to me go to some games plus the sports radio stations here keep up on them due to a huge alum presence.

Wow...even better. Casper was awesome. That' cool....the snake, branch, biletnikoff, Hendricks, tatum.......

Agreed. What was even cooler was seeing his two National Championship rings from ‘71 and ‘72 plus his two Super Bowl rings from the Raiders. Also, talking with him about the Ghost to Post game where he made 22 tackles. Very humble man who loves TO and the school.

  9. Some names that have been tossed around down here for the various openings (or posible openings) are:

    FSU: Taggert, Strong

    Arkansas: Malzahn, Les Miles

    UCF: The coordinators

UT: Tee Martin, Taggert, Strong, Kiffen (jokingly, I hope)

There was a conversation today about the possible FSU opening and Scott Frost, which the  USA Today College Football writer immediately squashed with “Frost is heading to Nebraska, they are just waiting for the CCG to be over.”

  10. Long time lurker finally posting.

I live in Atlanta and the sport talk guys here and all of the interviews they do with National Media types basically say Scott Frost is coming to Nebraska and that its happening pretty much the moment the CCG is over on Saturday.  They have been talking like this since Friday with such confidence that I had to check ESPN and here to see if I missed something.

I will admit, my manly bits are a-twitter awaiting Scott’s hopeful arrival and the revival of Big Red to 90’s form!
