It was supposed to "protect" the players who might play a couple games then fall out of the rotation so they didn't burn a year on just a couple plays.  Or let them play in a couple late-season games as an injury replacement but still keep their year of eligibility.

I think there are some good things about it.  But I don't think the players that are transferring understand it thouroughly.  Of course, I also won't be surprised if the NCAA tweaks the rule so that this "redshirt" year counts as their transfer, sit-out year.

If the NCAA allows the redshirt year to count as a transfer year there would be mass transfers. There would not be a punishment for transferring, other than missing 8 games

I think decisions the coach has made has pushed back the recovery of this program farther out than anyone realizes and I hope I’m wrong in that thought.

To finish off my original comment, let us consider the real use of the four game redshirt rule.

TL doesn't transfer, stays with the team but doesn't play anymore.  He spends the next 10 months improving his skills and anything else that can be improved.  When he steps on the field in September he is still a sophomore and a better player and this year wasn't wasted.

Don't think it's going to happen this way but this is, I think, the intent of the rule .

He would have played a lot if he stayed.

  4. I just think it was timing. They decided to give Ozigbo the start, and rotate with Bell every other series. But Bell struggled and didn't run upfield on 4th down, and Ozigbo looked good so they stayed with it. I see the same happening vs Wisconsin, and hopefully Bell plays better.

  5. The bottom line is lack of talent. It's no coincidence he is starting the same 5 o line that Riley did. Same with Lamar Jackson. The whole world can see they are not very good. But they are the best players on the roster at the moment. Its gonna take time to recruit and develop.
