My preference is to get a new HC and keep MJ. But if this doesn’t work and we make MJ the head coach, I would bring in Paul Chryst as OC/AHC. The guy knows our division and has won it. He knows the importance of an OL to win the west. Not sure there is anyone out there better to help MJ in this role if Trev sees MJ as the leader of the future of Husker football.
I have not heard that Chryst has been mentioned for any other vacancies. Not sure if he has aspirations to be a head coach again. This could be a great fit if he wants to stay in B1G west.
I still don't get the support HCMJ has among the fanbase for the permanent job other than being our ex-QB. I really don't.

To be honest, that guy is one of the worst Husker guys to follow on Twitter. He's always WAY TOO POSITIVE, WAY TOO UNREALISTIC, and just makes general Husker posts because he thinks he's a "good fan".
I hate him. Karma/upvote/like whoring 24/7

What about Jim Mora?
Did well at UCLA (46-29), massive experience at both college and pro level.
But what he's done this season at UConn is a miracle. He took a team that was 4-33 in their previous 3 seasons to a respectable 5-5.

True but I think Colorado would be going after him bc he is from that school. I don't know how I feel about him bc he has never been a head coach before and I feel that is part of the problem that has made Nebraska terrible.
Agreed.
The guy keeps getting rejected everywhere he applies despite Andy Reid and Patty Mahomes vouching for him. I wouldn't like this appointment at all, tbh.

My gut feeling is that whoever they're hiring is already coaching a p5 team, hence, can't make the announcement in-season. So this rules out Rhule, Peterson, Patterson (not a head coach currently), imo.
And its not HCMJ, considering Trev wouldn't have delayed by 58 days to announce it.
We're about to get curbstomped by Michigan this weekend not sure how Trev would justify appointing HCMJ after that.

Call me crazy but I think Brohm from Purdue is a dark horse candidate. At 51, he's in his prime and righted the ship at a historically bad franchise.
Edit: Program not franchise lol

Matt Campbell has heart..I'll give him that.

Aranda getting totally outcoached by Gundy.

I think the Rhule is definitely on Trev's short list; just depends on how the NFL season plays out. Rhule fans should be cheering against the Panthers each week.
Considering Panthers next 4 games are: vs Cardinals, vs 49ers, @the Rams, vs Buccaneers, which could very well result in Rhule being fired for a 1-6 start.
We might be able to pick him up from a Charlotte bus stop in a month's time.

Why Ryan Day, and why Ryan Day over Dabo? Ryan Day hasn't built squat. He simply took over a well oiled machine from Urban Meyer. Remember when David Shaw was all the buzz? Coincidentally, his best three years were his first three years after taking over a well oiled machine from Harbaugh. In the last four years, the only year he had a winning record was the Covid year. Nebraska is a rebuild project. There's one name on your list that isn't like the others. I don't understand why it's on there.
I agree Nebraska is a rebuild project which makes me think Aranda won't accept as he has already established a good system at Baylor.

Man, Kiffin would be such a good pick. His Offence is really fun to watch. Made a below average QB look like Lamar Jackson last year.

The standard is the standard.

Aranda proved his mettle when he overhauled his offence turning the team around from a 2 wins to 12 wins in just a season. While 'ol Frosty kept doing the same s#!t expecting different results .

The brand couldn't attract a top tier, highly sought after coach when Solich, Calahan, and Pelini were fired. Frost was highly sought after, but he had the connection. There is no reason to think the brand could attract one now.
And as for recruits, a 17 year old recruit wasn't even born the last time the Huskers were a major power. I'd guess kids start playing close attention to College Football when they're 10 to 12 years old. The Huskers haven''t been relevant in college football at all since today's recruits were that age.
Money yes. Loyal fan base and enthusiasm, yes. Those are the strong points. Brand name, no indication of that, no.
Agreed.
Trev seems to be much more pragmatic than his predecessor who sought the new shiniest toy. The announcement of the coach could be a complete surprise name most of us haven't heard of (likely an OC or DC at a solid program) which could underwhelm the fans.
