  1. I watched the bowl game out of obligation, not for fun. It was less fun to be a Huskers fan this year than any I can remember in my life. I'd say that 30% of that was the play on the field. 50% of it was the move to the B1G. Living in Kansas City as a Huskers fan was amazing when we were in the Big 12. KU, MU and KSU fans all wanted to talk football. The games against those teams mattered because what matters in College football is regional rivalries. The days leading up to the MU games were full of predictions, bravado and anticipation. Now, there is nothing. There is one Iowa fan in my office. No one watches the B1G. Being a Nebraska fan is now irrelevant in the conversation around the water cooler.

The other 20% is coach Pelini. I would not have said that until Dennard got thrown out of that bowl game. I finally equated Pelini's temper and lack of composure to the way the players act and react on the field. Penalties, Punks and Punts. It is embarrassing to be a Cornhusker fan. Those that live in state are insulated from it. Those of us who live in the rest of the world are implicated by it.

  2. If you watched the new movies first, then went back and watched the originals with their outdated special effects, even the remastered versions would look pretty bad. Better to watch them in order of special effects advances.

Those added effects drive me crazy. That and the revisionist history. In the updated episode 4, Greedo shoots first in the Mos Isley Cantina. In the original, Han blasts with Greedo failing to get a shot off.

  3. Oregon, and Maryland has sweet uniforms, but keep that style out of Lincoln

    Fixed that for you.

Ny issue with this uniform is that it doesnt match the Maryland flag like it is meant to. The shoulder insignia shouls be switched around so that it mirrors quadrants of the flag.

  4. I'm as settled in with the Big Ten as I can be. Shockingly settled in. I didn't anticipate feeling so at home so quickly, but it's been like moving to a new town and discovering your neighborhood is full of Nebraskans. Sure it's different, but much of it is the same. The Big Ten feels like my favorite old sweatshirt I forgot, only to dig it out of the back of the closet and find out the fit is just like the old days.

I just never felt any "magic" playing Iowa State or Missouri. They were like gnats, games you had to get through to get to the real prize at the end of the season, the Oklahoma game and the Bowl. Everything before that was just going through the motions. It was more an exercise of watching every guy on the roster play than anticipating a great game all week. Really, how juiced were people for Kansas most years? Or for Iowa State, or Missouri? To me, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Wisconsin and Iowa easily trump those games. It's not even a question.

I'm as stodgy and conservative as most Nebraskans, but when it comes to football enjoyment, the Big Ten is without question more fun than the Big XII.

If you've felt this way over the last 20 years, you're not watching the same games I have been. Do you know what rank KU finished in 1995? Tenth. Their only loss was to Nebraska. Same with #6 Kansas State. Do you not remember being beat by 40 points by KU in 2007? Do you not remember playing COLORADO for the de facto national championship in 1994? do you not remember being overmatched 2 years in a row By Mizzou, losing at home?

Its comments like this that get Huskers fans labeled as arrogant, revisionist, living in the past fans.

Being excited to play OSU, Michigan, PSU, etc. is like being excited to sit at the adult table at Thanksgiving for the first time. We have stadium envy. Trophy envy. History envy. You name it. We envy those Big 10 teams and now we feel like we have finally arrived at the adult table. The truth of the matter is that we were always at the adult table. We've just switched families.

  5. It seems hollow because it is hollow. College Football as a whole is a shadow of itself. Its about money. That's all. Nebraska cashed in with the conference move. Yeah, I know we had to do it. We were pushed.

The point is, I've watched NU play Kansas every year since I was seven. Half of my friends are Mizzou fans. Kansas State was a respectable opponent for years and is once again. I could care less about those other Wildcats. I don't know what a Buckeye is. A Nittanty Lion sounds like (and their mascot looks like) something my grandma would make to pass the time.

College football isn't all about tv deals and National Championships. It's about pride in where you come from and healthy competition with your neighbors. At least it used to be. Now its about the cash. Money doesn't fill that hole in your soul. That's why this season feels hollow.
