That's true, it's the great thing about Denver. Then again, if Ross becomes wildly successful there, it's anyone's guess what's going to happen to him after. Re: Olandis Gary, Mike Anderson, Clinton Portis, Reuben Droughns.
-
I don't think that was sarcasm. "Nebraska NEEDS you; UF, FSU, Miami want you." That's quite a pedestal. Because you know what? We don't need him at all
-
Well, I think recruiting is just not a pristine process. You're promising the world to kids when often you know you can't deliver. No coach is blameless in this; we can be as Husker prideful as we want, but recruiting is just not a wonderful, perfect system - as long as there is such a demand on bringing in the highest rated players and building the best teams.
It's unfortunate, but that's the way it is.
That said, if this (OU) writer wants to talk about dirtyness and corruption, what's more dirty? Telling a future pro prospect that his status as a pro prospect is better at a school with a pro-style offense and not facing NCAA probation, or a school where two players were booted for severely violating ethics codes?
-
And don't be saying he's been given the co #1 slot because he may leave otherwise. That stuff's an insult to his ability and work ethic. I'm not saying that's what anyone in this thread has posted, but its been posted before. Callahan isn't the kind of coach to give players a spot so they won't leave his program. He makes each player earn his playing time. If Lucky is co #1 then you can bet its because he earned it by playing his rear off in the middle of the rb dogfight. I say good for him.
I do think Lucky deserves this #1 spot, and I'm glad he's got it. He just seems to be the complete, all-around feature back with the knowledge and skills to merit that position, while all preseason we've been hearing about the specials of the other guys. That said, we have a VERY crowded backfield. Lucky is a major talent. If he doesn't get a ton of playing time - if he doesn't start through the season - I would not be surprised if he leaves. Not a knock on his talent or his mentality. It's just, with a backfield this deep, one wonders if it would not actually be best for him to try his fortunes elsewhere.
That said, I hope he stays and has a heck of a career here.

There's 75 players on the Ravens roster, which will have to get whittled down to 53 by the end of the week. Cory Ross is going to have to do some impressive things to stay on the roster.
Mike Anderson is a fullback.
And yeah, Lord got cut. Unfortunate, but I just don't see him as a DB.
-
If they were to use a 3-4, that would most likely bring in Philip Dillard at one of the inside linebacker positions. Ruud and Octavien are both Weakside. That said, I love our linebacking depth and hope both see significant time.
And now we can go back to shouting "Ruuuuud"!

KansasHusker, it's actually from a long feature piece on Glenn in the Lincoln Journal Star.
Glenn himself says they probably won't have the same starters throughout the year.

NU has not brought their "A" game on the road for the past couple of years. Beginning with the First Dark Season (2002)...it just seemed that every time we hit the road, we'd lose, unless it was against Baylor...
Granted, give Iowa State its due. They have a good, experienced quarterback, which you can't say for most of the rest of the Big 12, and stand the best chance of chellenging us for the North title.

Hm, Cory Ross did very well in their latest preseason game agains the Vikes...(link)
6 carries, 23 yards to lead all Ravens rushers including Mike Anderson who had 7 carries, 11 yards; 1 catch for 5 yards; and 4 kickoff returns averaging 24.2 yards (Sams had 3 with a 20.7 average, which is even better news )
Look at the Sam Koch statline though. He's got a monster leg. 5 punts - averaging 51 yards a kick, with a long of 61.

Pretty sure that was sarcasm...i.e, that's not over-the-top at all. The article was very supportive of Keller.
-
With focusing on the running game this year, a much more physical camp, and quotes from players like, "The O-line is way ahead of last year.... Playing together well... Dragging guys into the end zone, etc etc..." leads me to believe we're going to have big(ger) day in the running game vs. La Tech.
200 is quite do-able... Maybe even 3 hundy. woot.gif
Call it wanton enthusiasm, but I think we'll see some good ol' 40+yard runs from our Bevy of Backs...
Let's see... Hungry offense at home vs visiting green defense...
Anyone else excited??? boxing.gif cheers.gif
We're focusing on our running game, and our o-line is improved, but we're not going to see the Power football days of old. We may have a big day running, but I think 150 yds would be a big day...maybe I'm wrong...but remember, with the new clock changes, there'll be less time, less plays, and presumably less offense every game...
Still, I'm excited at what could happen with the running game this year.

Not at one school. Dukes went to Duke (hehe) I believe; Dailey's at UNC, Beck went to NC State. Don't know who the fourth guy was. Same state though.
-
I think we'll top 150 yards rushing, 200 may be a little optimistic for our first game. I think one of our backs struggling would set of more alarms than one of our backs standing out here...
-
Ross is competing with B.J. Sams? Uh oh. AFAIK, Sams is a proven quality return specialist O_O
Good for Koch though!
-
Although some ESPN stories, including one we were complaining about earlier, are actually just from the AP feed, to be fair...
-
Don't worry about Mandel. I'm sure he has no vendetta against NU, and he's listed us as one of 16 national title contenders this year.
-
Yeah, best sample pic I could find to work with...sorry, didn't know about A/V section, will remember that.
Of course, Sam Keller is magic and clearly that ball is going to zip out of his hands and into his receiver's arms 90 yards downfield within the next half second...
-
Can someone "super-impose" this? (Wake up computer geeks!) j/k
Citizens, I come from the future.
I know, I'm not the greatest photoshop doctor in the world, but I gave it a shot.

“Sam Keller has joined our football team,” Callahan said. “He’s here, he’s a Husker, he’s excited to be here and we’re excited to have him. He’ll get settled tonight and acclimated to our football team and he’ll join us tomorrow.”
-
I wonder if had Beck not left, we would've gone for Keller. If we did, I bet Beck doesn't say "Bring it on" like Ganz and leaves anyway.
Things are looking up
-
Been linked before, but looks like the article has some new wrinkles.
Keller was seen outside Memorial Stadium. Nebraska football A.D. Tim Cassidy whisked Keller into the stadium via a side door. Cassidy told a reporter, “We’ll talk to you later,” but when Keller was asked whether he is coming to Nebraska, he turned his head around, nodded, and said, “Yeah,” before being escorted beyond view.
WHOO!
Hey, our Football A.D. sounds like he could work for the FBI.

I don't want to make any Taylor-Keller comparisons. I think we all practically worship Taylor. He is like Jesus to Husker Nation. He's tough, a fearless leader, and delivered far more than we expected.
But to say Keller's stats last year weren't impressive would be mistaken, I think...remember, he sat out five games due to injury...All of his ints came in three games: 2, 5, 2. Take from that what you will.
-
If I'm not mistaken, we lose our starting Defensive front four, they're all seniors, aren't they?
Which underclassmen do you think will go pro?
-
Wait just a sec! He "enrolled" before too, remember? But he didn't register for classes then, so nothing was definite. What's different this time? Argh! I'm holding my breath until a reliable source says "Sam Keller is now a Quarterback for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and will be in 2007."
Ruud or Octavien?
in Husker Football

Octavien lost a bunch of pounds with his surgery, if I recall.
At any rate, I don't care. Ruud has had a season of experience under his belt and he's going to be fine.
