  1. Short of cloning Zac Taylor - always possible - I don't think it's really a good idea to pull up a juco. Why take a junior coming up from the JC levels to play out two years of eligibility, when we've got a junior (or two) for next year, having spent two or three seasons already in this system?

I mean, aren't juco players supposed to plug serious gaps, and not to form the backbone of a team on? I'd rather entrust this offense to Joe Ganz for a couple of years, and then see how Witt and any other future QBs we take from high school are doing.

Good point. That would be cool to see. A Nebraska kid coming to NU and playing in this new offense. Even if it is as a "walk on".

I'd like to see that too. Homebrew talent :)

  2. But you gotta reach. When one of those sixteen teams makes it to the NC, he wants to be the one that says, "You heard it here first!" This is all just wild speculation anyway. Who knows what unknown team will pull off a fairytale season?

I hate to say this, but we're kinda a reach, too...

  3. If players were graded by heart alone, Cory would be at the top of the list

Very true. :clap I was kinda hoping he would get taken by the Pats and be our next franchise RB...from my possibly biased point-of-view, he SHOULD be a Pat. He's like Corey Dillon reincarnated.

It's a little off topic, but did you guys see Fabian Washington intercept the ball in the hall of fame game??? thumbsup.gif

No, but I remember Fabian Washington :D Which team was he on?

  4. It won't let me in to the article??? It says I have to be a member!!!

all you have to do is register with Omaha.com with your email and a pass word. it is easy and it is free

Alternatively, you can refer to bugmenot and not have to deal with websites that nag you with required free registrations :)

with the added focus on the running game during the spring game, and the improved line play I think that either him or Davis will only need to hand the ball off until they get into the rythm of the game

I hope so! But I think you'd want to break them in as quickly as possible to the rhythm, rather than one-dimensionalize the playbook. Who knows, it worked with Tom Brady. I know, far out example.

  5. Taking a step back and putting it into perspective, I suppose we're all being a mite unfair on Beck. True, what he did was inexcusable - but understandable. Well, a little bit, anyway. What his mother did was likewise inexcusable - but understandable.

But, look - if everything had been settled, if he had come back - we wouldn't be lopping all this hell on him. I bet we all would've welcomed him back with open arms. And made all the necessary counter arguments dismissing or excusing his previous behavior.

  6. I remember Isiah Fluellen tearing up the field with some great runs...he's fast. And a junior, I believe? ... Or...was that Mark Leflore? Or...I'm so confused x_x After the West Coast shakeup, I've completely lost track of the receiver scene, who's who, and all.

  7. 1) XD

    2) True, Beck was something like 1/6 for 21 yards with an int, but he presided over our game-winning drive and delivered what I'd consider to be a clutch pass for a young guy hurled into so much pressure. I don't want to see Davis quarterbacking again, but Ganz is kind of an unknown right now.

    3) We'll have Ganz, Witt. Depending on how Ganz progresses, we may not need or even want a juco.

  8. Let's not hate too much on Freeman, though. He made the choice that he felt was right for him, given all the variables at the time. Who coulda foreseen this? He may be kicking himself, but it's not his fault. I know he switched from Nebraska, but as a recent high school student, well...we're very indecisive. Flip-floppers, if you will.

  9. Of course, you are not allowed an opinion that is wrong :)

I don't think anyone will wish for Beck back. Should the unthinkable happen, and ZT go down - well, we all hope we'll have someone good to step in. Could be Joe Ganz, who knows at this point? But we lost Beck long before he was released from his scholarship. The minute he decided to skip practice, that he was above the team, that was when he ceased to possess any quarterbacking skills whatsoever. I'm sure we all wish Beck didn't turn out this way, with this kind of attitude, especially the good signs coming from him all the way up to this. But he did, and since he did, you couldn't pay me to wish for him to ever take the reins of our offense.

  10. It would be intruiging if Beck goes over to OU. But I can't really imagine Bob Stoops saying, "Folks, The TEAM is more important than the INDIVIDUAL. We are STRONGER as a program because this TERRIBLE SCANDAL came out. That said, I am pretty desparate and we need a quarterback. Welcome, Harrison Beck, and Harrison Beck's mother. He will start right away, of course, because Thompson is just mediocre."

I mean, as cool as it would be to lay the smackdown on Beck in the Big XII CCG, and as much as I don't like OU football, I give Bob Stoops more credit than that.

  11. Just to confirm: Ganz *is* a redshirt sophomore, right? I saw one article describing him as a junior...

well then why didn't Ganz go in last year (in the K state game) instead of Beck?

Probably because Beck was seen as the future of this program. Things have changed.

  12. IMO Ganz is tons better than Davis. The only look we have on Davis is that Texas Tech game that we don't want to remember.

Agreed, I just have a good impression of Ganz.

And Davis, well. Wasn't his TTech performance something along the lines of "int, int, inc, int, inc, int"?

come on guys......we can say this when we need to, but the fact is you need a better than "average" qb to run the WCO....there is no denying that......maybe Ganz can fit pretty well.....but we need to keep goiing after the kids that fit the system.

The only "average" guys are the poor suckers who aren't on our team :)

  13. Will Coach Cally wear red?

Clearly. He will be eminating red like the devil himself, and those of the LA Tech sideline will be terrified at the glowing red flames which surround him. As they very well should be.

First Husker scoring connection? How long?

Kenny Wilson will take the ball from the 20 and tear through the entire sorry defense of theirs. Which would be, 80 yards.

Will we sell out the athletic venue to max capacity?

    No doubt.

Result of Tech's first offensive drive?

Tech will not, at any point in this game, have anything that can even remotely qualify as an "offensive drive."

Could the rumors be true about Lil Reds battle with bulimia??

Haven't seen him lately. Perhaps he should see a counselor, or maybe he is jealous of Husker Herbie.

    Players of the game?

Well, they'll have a heck of a time deciding between the 22 Nebraska starters, that's for sure.

  14. Hunter94, I don't think so. I think the highest rated high school quarterbacks are too prideful to let a challenge deter them. They'd be too prideful to say, "This is too hard, I want something watered down for me."

And besides, as a fan, I don't want any "watered down" West Coast, like they're running at, say, UNC.

But this whole thing with Beck shows that he's just stupid. What did he have to complain about? He was practically cemented as the future of this program. Does he think there's a difference between a 2-year starter and a 4-year starter in terms of future success? Ask Matt Cassel, second-stringer QB on the Patriots, who never started a single game for USC.

Still, all the better. Beck will not be a good QB, I think we can all agree.

He quit, I have no time for quitters. Let's talk about people who want to be here.

    Truth.

  15. Easily IMO. You go back, say you're sorry for letting down the team and explain to everyone his mom's comments in no way reflect his opinions and he doesn't agree with what his mom said.

First and second sentences don't agree. That wouldn't be easy for anyone to say. "Sorry guys, I'm a total ass. I bailed on you, but welcome me back with open arms, right? I'm all better now. Sorry Zac. I don't really think you suck. That was all just my mom, you know. You believe me, right? Yeah. Go big red, or something."

Even if he did say all that, that he didn't agree with his mother, I just wouldn't think it's true. Walking out of practice reflects very badly on him, regardless of what his mother said. The fact that his mother blasted the pride of Husker Nation just sealed the lid on the coffin.

  16. Pshhhh. If Beck's gone, it's no big loss. He's not worthy of being a Husker anyway.

What is Beck's mom going to say when Taylor leads us to the title. Well he is an "OK" national title qb. This probably wants to make Taylor prove himself even more, though it was just a mom.

Who cares what Beck's mom thinks? Since when did Beck's mom become the ultimate authority on football?

Joe Ganz! I'll be excited to see him play against the Trojans...because you know, I think BC will be nice to SoCal guys once the score hits 42-0 midway through quarter two...

  17. Then again, if he was #4 on the depth chart, maybe he isnt that good. He has been praised ever since high school that he is the best thing since sliced bread, but he is only a 10% passer. The few opportunities he received, he didn't show anything.

I think the #4 placement was a result of his just coming off injury. Other QBs had more time to develop, he'll obviously have catchup work. Of course, when Joe Dailey wound up #4 on the depth chart, he upped and left for North Carolina. But that's a little different: he was recruited for a different system.

That Beck is a 10% passer is true, but consider. He was thrown, nay, hurled into the fire against KSU in a dire situation. He completed a clutch 20-yd pass to Nate Swift when we needed it. All good signs. And he played minimal garbage time against CU, but it was both minimal and garbage time - we haven't seen enough of him to downrate his performance in any way.

As for next year's QB, how about Joey Ganz?

Most players who stop showing up for practice would get their scholarships pulled or some sort of heinous punishment like "running till you puke." Walk out on the team, disrespect the starting quarterback. I'm not really sure I'd like him to come back if this is truly his attitude. We'll see what transpires tomorrow.

I don't think so; can you point to any specific examples? Even if you can, I don't think it's a good idea. When a kid is frustrated, you have to deal with it in the context of the situation. Not by beating them over the head and exacerbating their problems.

  18. Hard to say without knowing what's going through Beck's mind. I think a short suspension is in order no matter what, though. No matter how many stars you have on Rivals.com coming out of high school, you don't just skip a practice on a whim and not face any sort of consequence. I think that message needs to be sent clearly, because, to sorta quote Bob Stoops in a different situation, it's for the better of the team.

But of course on the poll I chose public humiliation :D

I second the run him till he pukes. Then after that, run some more. Then apologize to the team and wash Zac Taylor's car.

Great idea! Though, seriously speaking, I think AR Husker Fan has hit the nail on the head.

  19. look at Oklahoma's mess, we are not the only team that has disappointments...it really is a sign of the times..no wonder the NFL has a bunch of cottled players.....it all starts in the college ranks....we would ultimately have better role models for all our kids, if the high profile guys did not receive special treatment...too bad we couldn't get all the coaches to "bust the chops" of some of these kids right in college....sure they are just kids, but character is something that you hopefully develop in your kids as they move through their high school years.....being a little humble sure never hurt anyone, that i can recall.......

High school, I think. Too much hype, too soon. Too many cases of letting star players skate through classes and letting them out of responsibility for their actions.

    ^ Truth.

And thank god we are not Oklahoma.

  20. 1) How long have you been a member of Husker Nation?

    11) Favorite all time player?

In recent memory, Cory Ross and Zac Taylor come to mind. They have spirit :)

    13) Stevie Pederson or Billy Byrne?

Don't know anything about Byrne, but I'm critical of Pederson's firing of Solich, thought it was premature. Then again, he hired Callahan.
