Purify looked a lot like those big, athletic wideouts that have risen to prominence at the big programs the past 5 years, the Difference Makers.
He made a great move on the ball as he squared up and caught it cleanly with his hands and made the nice turn and run into the endzone. Textbook. He made it look easy in the way that graceful natural athletes always do.
Loved seeing that.
It's been so long since we've had any players with the athleticism and speed to make plays, to go the distance from way out.
How many times in the past 5 years have we seen our backs and receivers get run down from behind instead of pulling away and scoring?
Crouch used to be able to put it in that extra gear. I think we have several players now who can burn.
That's what drove me crazy about the Solich teams. Just the lack of game-changing speed.
During the great run in 1990s we had the studs on both sides of the ball where you felt like they could score on every play. You expected the defense to turn em over and perhaps score, and you knew the offense was a threat on ever down.
It's feeling more and more like that. Part of it is the system, but the overarching idea is the Great Athlete. The Huskers are starting to fill up with these sorts of players.
Can't wait until next Saturday.
