  1. I was shaking my head on the second to last drive when they slowed the pace down, and then guess what, they couldn't do anything. They had them on their heels and decided to give them a break. Yes I understand clock management but I think scoring is more important at that point.

  2. I am disappointed that Riley is keeping Warren. The DBs have tried to shoulder tackle way too often. This poor technique was showcased against Wisconsin. Also, the DBs don't seem to have a nose for the ball other than Gerry. I want Riley to go after the best, and I don't think Warren is the best. Is Warren a good recruiter? Maybe that is why Riley wants him.

I think this has more to do with the practice structure. I've heard that there are a startling number of players standing around doing nothing during Nebraska practices. That's on Bo.

  3. If what I've read about Mike holds true, he should be a great fit for Husker Nation. And if what MLB 51 put in his status update holds true, oh man! Next season could be fun!

MLB 51? Can you help me out here, been at work today and I don't really have time to read everything... Thanks

  4. I would have handled it differently. I look at the MASSIVE amount of money now being spent on buyouts and think that for significantly less we could have simply upgraded the staff to get off this plateau we've been on. I'd have talked to Bo directly and said that I want better results and I don't think as it stands we have what it takes to make us a national power again. Staffing upgrades are needed. I'll get out the checkbook for the best guys available, we can put a kick-ass staff together. If you aren't down with making changes then the university will move in a different direction and more coaches would end-up without jobs. So what direction are we going? My bet is he'd upgrade.

We dropped td passes at the end of the MSU and Minn games. We could have easily been 10-2 or even 11-1. Yes the Wiscy game was fugly but if you replace Els with a Pap and bring in a top-notch DC that likely doesn't happen. Replace Beck and/or Barney, get better qb development. I really liked the recruit class we had going. We weren't that far away, with good changes we'd have significant on-field improvement. I know some just don't think Bo works as a HC but I think he does, provided he puts a better staff together then backs-off to more of a CEO role.

I questioned Shawn's management-style last year and I still do. Still sure why we paid over market rate to get him, Miami didn't care that he left. He doesn't seem like a very up-front guy.

BUT WHAT'S DONE IS DONE AND IT'S TIME TO MOVE FORWARD. Bo is gone and drying his tears with a fat check. This gets down to Shawn walking the walk and bringing home a great hire now. If he does that then I'm cool with the guy. This gets down to winning football games. If Shawn hires a guy that does it he's a success. Can't wait to see who we get.

He says he conducts performance reviews and sets clear guidelines for his employees. Personally I think that management style is great. You know who doesn't like that style? People who can't meet the guidelines that are set. It is apparent from the, "I could care less," comments from Bo that he was in the crowd that doesn't like that management style.

  5. While I agree fully on the DE's we have being better than Ott, it wasnt really about playing time or performance. I dont even care if he rides the bench for 5 years. I'm sorry if it would be a wasted scholly to the blind eye, but I'm speaking more to the intangible connection with the high school kids of this state. Ott was a Nebraska kid. He should be playing for Nebraska.

Unfortunately, I just don't think this is possible in this day and age. You really have to go with they guys who you are expecting to be starters. There just aren't enough scholarships to go around. We'll probably only have three scholarship QBs on the roster next year. Probably only four RBs - maybe 3. We only have 6 DEs lined up right now and 7 CBs. To go three deep at each of 22 spots is 66 guys plus specialists. That's already about 70 of your 85 spots who are an injury away from being in the two-deep. And there's really closer to 26 or so spots to fill by the time you factor in different personnel groupings. And that's assuming everyone pans out.

I think you have to be as picky as you can. And that means a lot of Nebraska kids who would have gotten a scholarship back in the day won't anymore.

Yeah but when Bo Pelini and staff only have so many recruiting points to spend each week it's easier to take advantage of the guys close by (costs less points). Now maybe in the future Bo will invest some of his experience points into gaining more recruiting points each week but until then he has to save points for the big push in the offseason....

  6. My thoughts were brought to this after reading an article about the program in the LJS in which they were pondering if Nebraska was going to be able to make a big splash before signing day. I wondered if we were still, "in on," any top recruits remaining. It seems there are two.

  7. I'm bored at work and feeling unproductive so here are some morning stats for you regarding the 2014 class. I was pondering how well the staff could fill this class out. Out of the Rivals Top 250, 30 are currently listed as uncommitted. Rivals indicates that 2 of these players have interest in Nebraska. For comparison value, 9 are showing interest in Ohio State. Let's just say I hope the recruiting services have it wrong this year and Nebraska has found some sleepers.

  8. He's an ass that had worn out his welcome.

I'm sorry you feel that way. The sad part is, some people actually read this and believe you when you say that. Until you have met the guy in person, please be careful of what you say.

Sidenote: Pelini has young children and his kids and family have had to deal with the fanbase (the self-proclaimed, "Greatest Fans in College Football") this year, through all of this media garbage... Try explaining to a 3rd grader how you could lose your job and the entire state would know about it. And yes Bo can be an aggressive, toe-the-line type of person but it's that mentality that turns in championship teams and helps form boys to men.

    - And please, do not compare this to Osborne. Although we respected Osborne over time, his lack of aggression/vocally expressing his angry or disagreement frustrated the fans like crazy. Osborne was also shielded from that because he had some assistant coaches and players who had no problem laying into a ref vocally.

I love the, "he has kids," defense of Pelini. So what, he can not be fired until his kids all reach the age of 19? This is a business, plain and simple.

  9. I am heading to the store and was wondering what I should grab while I sit back and watch the show here on Huskerboard?

Gonna load up on some popcorn since Enunwa is giving me some of the butter he uses. Also going to grab some of the twinkies and moon pies Kellogg had in his hand warmers. And finally going to grab a few blocks of cheese that the O-line forgot to bring to the stadium.

In all reality, what does everyone think is best for the program moving forward? A new head coach could possibly mean a setback in recruiting (tough to do), change in offense, and potentially players leaving the program. But there comes a point in time when a university deserves more in their investments. The past two years, Pelini was very close to .500 ball if things go other ways and the team does not play very disciplined football. I am afraid we wont be able to get a big named coach, but do think it is time for Bo to hand the reins over. Bo clearly does not get the most out of his players every game. The offense had their troubles and injuries all year, setting them back substantially, but Beck makes some play calls where you think he is trying to lose the game. Bo has a 70 win percentage as a coach, but rarely wins games when NU is an underdog. The biggest knock on Bo is his players rarely play with fire. I know sometimes its a little obnoxious, but i want a cocky, get in your face team. Players are too passive on D. You can generally find them doing more pointing then hitting.

I do think Bo turns young men into respectful, educated adults, but fails to give more. Could never win a conference title and failed to make a BCS bowl game. Goodluck on your next life adventure.

    Thoughts?

I agree with you in that the recruiting shouldn't even be an issue that is raised in this discussion when they are 41st according to rivals. A good hire could easily finish just as good if not better than this staff.
