  1. For anyone who was at the game did you notice Keller was running to the sideline to get the plays... something Joe Dailey had to do. What do you think was up with this. I was at the Nevada game and I don't think this went on, and I don't think I saw it against Wake Forest. Only thing I can think of is Callahan was worried USC would be stealing our play calls???

    Two points:

    1. Zac Taylor did the same thing in his first year with the Huskers - by the second year, Zac was taking the signals without having to run to the sidelines. I suspect it has to do with the terminology being so complex - it's a way to be sure that the play call is communicated correctly. In addition, it has been noted that the actual call is simply a number - Keller then refers to that number on list he has on his wristband to make the actual call. For those reasons, I doubt that it has anything to do with concern over someone stealing the calls.

    2. It happened in both the Wake and Nevada games as well.

I was at the Nevada game and unless Keller was near the sideline they signaled in the plays. Last night he was running to the sidline nearly every play.

  2. exactly or cally wanted to be sure he could tweek the plays as the game progressed.

Speaking of tweaks... I know we have certain sets, but don't you think sometimes we should "tweak" our sets so that Purify is in the formation on a passing situation instead of Peterson, Erickson, and Nunn

  3. I have seen all three of the Tigers game this year......I don't think it's a shocker too say the Tigers are goin too throw the ball...

Huskers have the edge at QB.......Keller has a much better arm and he can and will throw the deep ball

Huskers have the edge at RB, Mizzou is really having no luck running the ball, and after SC we need a break form that

WR's.....Mizzou has a slight advantage hear, I like Rucker and Maclin , but without a big arm to get them the ball .......they won't be a huge factor

Defense is were the two schools part ways.....SC would have scored 100 agin Mizzou, I don't think our defense is nearly as bad as they played last night, couple that with the fact that the Tigers lack a decent running game and this really looks like a rplay of last year only better for the Huskers.....who should be able to pile up Nevada like numbers on Missouri's worthless front

Remember Wake Forest only had 2 rushing yards against Boston College... and over 200 against us

  5. Hey

I was here before last years game and had a great time chatting. Just wanted to stop by for a minute.

I just wanted to post that I think that game was not as bad as it seemed. Remember, JDB is supposedly a heisman candidate QB and he only got 140 yds passing or something, and the game was close for a long time, and Nebraska was leading at one point.

For a team that was called "maybe the best ever" by Harbaugh, USC didn't do all that well vs. Nebraska. I think it was just some bad breaks for the huskers, like the INT by the USC DE Kyle Moore.

The only thing that concerned me was the huge holes the USC RB's had in the line..but if I remember right Nebraska has a whole bunch of new guys on the D-line.

Nice pictures of Jerry Tagge before the game

The 2 USC kids are OK, one has a concussion and the other just got hit in the throat and will be fine in a few days. Clay Matthews the SAM LB broke his thumb but he says he is playing next wekk

Good luck vs. the boomer sooner idiots

    :)

No offense, but USC didn't need to throw, when you average close to nine yards a carry... no real reason to pass.

  6. I'm not sure what everybody's big problem is. WE are Nebraska fans and yes we would love to win every game. The feeling i get from this board is that even if Nebraska Won every game this year, you would still not be satisfied. WE would still find a way to same something about Coz or Cally.

Last night, sucked. We got beat on national tv........but they are the #1 team in the country and we put up 31 points on them. Lets give some people credit, cally has a hype around Nebraska football. this isn't 1995 anymore. Now days teams are more evenly balanced with talent.

When we look at this team and season, we need to keep things in mind. It is a long season, we have only 1 loss. Lets prepare for next weeks game, and go week by week.

I'm not trying to be negative or anything, but we scored 21 points in the 4th quarter when their backups were in there. I said in another thread that if Carroll wanted to he could have really blown the score up. We just didn't have the defense to stop them. I think offensively we did an okay job.............oh except for the whole rushing part!!!!" :bang

are you sure those were that back ups? I'm not saying they weren't, but it would surprise me. after all he had his starters in on O and were going for it on 4th and 4 late in the 4th.

12 mins left is not late in the 4th. bradford and chauncey washington were the running backs. those are Scs 3rd and 4th teamers.

Chauncey Washington is not a 3rd or 4th string runningback....

  7. So here are my questions (I agree with the OP, btw):

I don't think all athletes are created equal, but I also don't think each university's training program (strength, speed, endurance, technique, etc is what I'm talking about there) is created equal.

So what do people think is the difference between our athletes and USC's?

For me, I don't think we have the same caliber of athletes for the most part, but we shouldn't yet either. It takes time to rebuild a program so you can recruit decent numbers of those "marquee" players. I think we'll see increasing numbers of those players start to come in over the next few years.

But is there any chance our training program is not quite where it should be? It's an honest question, I really have no clue about the state of our program with respect to that. All I know is we have traditionally had a very good training program.

I wonder if their athletes have a better head start. IN other words, there high schools are better off. Most of there players are from So. cal, thus there is great competition they have gotten accustomed to. Just a thought. Only a true insider would know I think. I also think we still don't have enough quality players in our program.

I think it goes back to that they are building depth with freshman and sophmores, so when those kids become starters they have had significant playing experience. Look at our backups... Ricky Thenarse will most likely start next year and has gotten hardly any real time on defense in meaningful situations. Anthony Blue has been praised by coaches as someone how has picked things up quick and is ahead of any freshman they've seen, but yet I would bet he will be a special teams guy and only get time in mop up duty. Offensivly I find it hard to believe that guys like Holt, Will Henry, Chris Brooks, and even Niles Paul can't compete on the same level as Dan Erickson??? It's like what Eric said their kids have a "head start"

  8. Cosgrove's D doesn't attack. Pellini got more from less. To bad!!! :madash:madash:madash

If memory service me correct.... 8 or 9 of the players Pelini had made NFL squads....

Remember names like - Demorrio Williams, Barrett Ruud, both Bullocks, Fabian Washington

I agree that Pelini is a better coach, brought more energy, and got more out of the players... but at the same time the guy has had talent everywhere he's gone, ie - Oklahoma and LSU

  9. We had an impressive defensive stop along with a nice offensive drive...we had good mo after that

If we had gotten that damn fumble on the kickoff...oh boy...the crowd would have gone ape s#!t

Agree with you 100%... but I still don't think the play was irrelevant just because we stil scored. A score right after a fumble recovery would have been very big

  10. "Who wants to go somewhere where they won't get a shot until they're a junior?" Yeah, that's clearly a problem. USC should look into fixing that. Guys like John David Booty and Patrick Turner might - oh, wait.

Maybe you should check out the USC depth chart before you reference just two players....

    FRESHMAN STARTERS

    WR - David Ausberry

    C - Kristofer O'Dowd

    FB - Stanley Havili

    RB - Joe McKnight

    DE - Everson Griffen

    Sophomore Starters

    RT - Charles Brown

    RB - C.J. Gable

    RB - Stafon Johnson

    RB - Allen Bradford

    FS - Taylor Mays

Others who played early in the game

WR - Vidal Hazelton - Sophomore

CBs - Vincent Joseph and Shareece Wright - Both Sophomores

Oh and by the way Patrick Turner as a freshman played in 12 games catching 12 balls for 170 yards and as a sophomore had 29 grabs for 272..... so this isn't his first field experience.

USC and other high profile school's are gaining success with freshman and sophmores, so either our juniors and seniors are unreal (which by yesterday can't be true) or these guys we're recuiting aren't as great as everyone says they are...... or maybe C the coaching staff just needs to get these guys on the field, seriously could have they done any worse yesterday?

  11. We scored anyways after they punted so its irrelevent.

It is relevent because it would have been a huge momentum swing. Your logic is like saying "we intercepted the ball but couldn't score, so we punted, then we punted back, and then we scored... so it all worked out."

  12. im not so sure i would want a true-freshman to be thrown in the mix as our primary back against the #1 ranked team in the nation..

I never said I wanted him as the primary back... I just said how does he go from getting quite a few carries... to zero. And even when we are dominating teams... we had freshman starting on both sides, to truely build depth you have to get these kids on the field on offense and defense, not just special teams

  13. We were never in long field goal range really, but I was surprised to not see Kunalic last night or was he there and I missed it?

He did have the wonderful pootch punt that we some how couldn't recover

  14. That means nothing to me... I have never been able to understand how we have guys that go from lots of playing time to none.

I am shocked with how we get some of these big time recruits, name the last freshmen in the Callahan era who actaully got a shot as a true freshman. And I am not talking about special teams, I mean a significant role on the offense or defense.

Guys like Thenarse and Holt won't see significant time until next year, who wants to go somewhere when they won't get a shot to play until they're a junior.

  15.

It's not the loss that bothers me, it's how we lost. We looked terrible.

Exactly... USC was a better team and if we lost, but played well and just simply lost to a better team I could live with it. But it's how we played that killed me

  16. I know Glenn was back, but Castille goes from getting close to 30-40% of the carries against Nevada and getting decent time against Wake Forest to no carries? Doesn't it seem like every year we see a player who gets to play and play well in a few games and then all of a sudden no time? Don't you think that messes with an 18 year olds head???

  17. I live in Los Angeles and have an hour commute to work. So two total hrs, lots of time to do nothing.

I've been flying my Husker flag on my left side and my Blackshirts flag on the right, this week. The thing is that I'm really really surprised at how many ppl honk at me and give me the thumbs up.

So I'm thinking there are either a quite of few "transplants" from Nebraska here, like myself. Or it's just the UCLA fans that really hate USC.

When I travled out to LA last year for the game I ran into quite a few Husker fans of coarse... but like you mentioned I also met many UCLA fans who hated USC. One of them actually bought me breakfast one morning at a McDonald's near Disneyland, too bad we'll have to take them down in the 2012 season!
