  1. Hi all,

As i was reading the article on how Bo is trying to address increased penalty issues.. I had an idea.. I know its not original..but i have heard of coaches who lead by punishment to instill discipline.

My idea is simple.. For every penalty that is incurred, the amount of yardage accumulated by each player could be used to make that player run the stadium steps.. So lets say Mike Smith accumulated 15 yards in penalties, he would then run the steps 15 times.. This would instill discipline and let them know that there are consequences to their mental lapses. With punishment, you have to have some level of congratulatory award that rewards a person who exhibits penalty discipline.

This is akin to a RB who fumbles alot, and a coach makes him carry a football with him everywhere.

Just something i have been thinking about since this weekend..

  2. Decided to get proactive.. Just got off phone with direct tv... asked them if they could try to tell me what channel the game will be on...

The lady said they game would be on channel 786. Hopefully this turns out to be the case!

    Thought i'd provide an update!

What do you mean by "hopefully"? DirecTV's coverage of previous Husker PPV games has always been the same, it will be there.

I said hopefully because she also said start time for the game was 8...when we know its 6 central...

  4. I work with the father of the running back coach at Texas Tech (Seth Littrell) and i have told him to tell seth to take it easy on us ;) I've heard wonderful stories about Mike Leach and how they have a very close coaching staff. He knows im 100% husker but me and his dad get along fine.

FYI, the father won 2 national championship rings at OU...Seth won 1... So its not bad to hear old stories about NU ok, switzer vs osborne from a person who played on the field.

Anyway i think Tech is gonna be very very good..but i just have a feeling that bo knows how to defend the spread offense...

I'll be glad to share whatever info his dad gives me about TT is doing if anyone cares... I look forward to a great husker year

  5. What exactly were your recommendations?

I recommended that we get back to the blackshirt tradition of having a strong defense...therefore i suggested that Coach Pelini was the man for the job...

I also stated that i trusted his decision in whatever he did..but in my humble opinion a change needed to be made as Coach Callahan has shown disrespect to the program, Dr. Tom and our tradition in the way he has acted this year.

  6. I'll take my best shot, without a lot of thought....

Worst case: finishing with a similar record, getting smoked at home by VT on ABC....if with BC, we here the same ol' song and dance and have to read all the same stuff on this board.... and TO losses credibility by retaining BC...... no bowl... and sell-out streak ends when KU beats NU for the 3rd time in 4 years...

....... finishing with the same scenario with a new coach.....Bo may say things to make the f'n hillbillies and throat-gate look like a Disney movie....or Gill brings in a 75th ranked recruiting class, etc...

Best case: I really can't disagree with Hunter.....10-3 and winning the North, very solid bowl game such as Holiday..... Beating VT soundly in Lincoln, KU in Lincoln, and MU in Lincoln.....Holding Tech's offense somewhere under 35 points and coming out of the OU game without a coaching "remark" or a player assaulting a "rough-neck"..... TO looks like a genius for keeping BC or bringing in the guy who helped this team back into the top 15....... We all buy/or dig out our "order restored" shirts... and finally, yes, we get the crap out of KSU, making Josh Freeman 0-3 vs our Huskers...... and having BC (probably unemployed) text message Josh..."UR stupid"..

Worse case: Callahan is retained as coach... we have to suffer another year like this year

Best case: new coach, new attitude and a killer defense....

    Dear Jeff,

    Thank you for your note.

As I said when I took this job, I will evaluate the football program

    and

coaching staff at the end of the season. The decisions that are made

will be in the best interests of the football program, the state, and

    the University of Nebraska.

I do appreciate your passion for Nebraska Football, and your support

    for

the program. As I am evaluating things, I will keep your

    recommendations in mind.

    Thank you again for writing.

    Best wishes,

    Tom Osborne

i would think the order of priority in his decision making process would be football program, U and then state...but that's just me. no doubt it is authentic..........and correct like all the posts here. :thumbs

Ha, well i think it should be football program, football program, and football program..then ME :) But yes its authentic..just wanted to share that he took the time to respond (or have his assistant respond) to my email..shows great class in my book

    WHOOOO MY 100 Post! :)

  9. my 2 cents...

    1. I love the huskers and follow them religiously.. We ALL want them to do well.. so what i say is out of tough love and doesnt mean i dont support current players or coaches.. i base all my opinions on performance... not personality. I support my boys win or lose....

    1. Cosgrove has to go.. He has lost the defense.. They are not playing hard for the man.. That is what the coach is supposed to do.... Not only teach defense but to inspire and if they are NOT performing.. then make noticable changes to mix things up.. Unfortunately i think Cosgrove and Cally are both too LOW KEY... Mcbride was very fiery and so was Pelini.. Guess what our Defenses responded pretty much to that.. We need to make a change at the end of the year.

    2. Wagner (offensive line coach) needs to go. Zone blocking technique he teaches is not effective in college. Right now we need to line up man on man and just exert your will. Football is about intensity.. Trying to "think" to much only gets you in trouble.. Right now we are thinking ourselves out of this season.. See the man.. HIT the man hard and make a sure tackle.. On defense it doesn't take any talent to gang tackle. Intensity and fire and ball hawking makes a defense great.. I think the guys need to stop worrying about who is covering who and everybody runs toward the ball.. everyone tackles..

    3. Cally needs a little fire also.. He is the leader of this team.. He needs to exhibit fire from the top.. and EXPECT his coaches to instill this passion into the team.. I KNOW the team wants to win.. i know they are trying.. but i dont see any fire in their eyes.. i dont see the passion.. they have lost confidence and need a change in coaches to bring them back to where they need to be.

    4. The hardest thing i will have to say and i think will bring the most comments.. Cally needs to invite a defensive great from each group in the past (Broderick thomas for lb, Peter brothers/wistrom for dline, minter, mike brown for CB/safety, etc) and they need to be in the locker room after the next practice and the conversation would go like this..

Gentleman.. we are Nebraska Football defensive greats.. we are the blackshirts that you inspire to wear.. We have set a standard of excellence that you have yet to maintain.. You at this TIME do not deserve to wear the blackshirts.. Only one of you (Bowman) has exhibited the pride it takes to wear this shirt. He showed his passion for what it stands for by turning in his shirt and nobody followed his lead.. It is not a GIVEN that just because u start on defense you get to wear our shirt.. You must EARN the respect to wear this shirt. At that point i would state that the coaches have stripped you of your blackshirts and we as representatives of Nebraska Defense are here to make sure you understand what it will take to earn them back.

Yes men, you CAN earn these back but here is what you MUST do.. 1. Practice hard...2. Hit the weight room with a vengence.. 3. Everyone TACKLE the ballcarrier wherever he is.. i want to see a minimum of 5 to 6 people in on each tackle near the line. 4. The most important of all.. PLAY AS A TEAM...the man next to you is your BROTHER.. you might not LIKE him, but you respect him for the effort he is putting out as he will respect you. 5. I want intensity.. i want to see the passion for the game, the passion for what this shirt stands for...the passion for yourself..

You do these things and we will personally give you back your shirts and say we are HONORED to have you as our brother.. You do NOT have to win to earn our respect.. but you MUST PLAY AS HARD AND AS INTENSE AS YOU CAN ON EACH PLAY.

My rant is now over... i know what i say might not be popular but i say it with love and passion and with wanting the best for the program...

  11. We wanted to take a minute to let you know how much the Wake fans appreciated the Husker fan's class, sportsmanship and general good nature at the game. My season tickets are on the "visitor" side (by choice of course, not b/c I haven't donated enough cabbage) so I get to interact w/ the visiting teams fans. I enjoyed the friendly banter with the Husker fans in section 12. The Big Red supporters came out in droves and I would say you had as big of a visiting crowd as UNC or Clemson would bring. We're quite appreciative of Nebraska coming to Winston-Salem. Also, we'll apologize for the worse than normal consessions (not that I had anything to do with them) - long lines and depleted supplies. We've already expressed our displeasure to our AD; we usually treat our "guests" better than that. We hope to get a rematch and preferably while we still have Coach Grobe - he's the best coach we've ever had! It was a decent game and we hope a good time was had by all!

Pair of deacs.. i want u to know i emailed the president and alumni association via the WF webpage and told them how AWESOME we were treated by your fans.. the classiest i have ever seen. I must have gotten 50 great job, good game... from u guys.. and at least 20 Thank you for coming compliments...

I hope u will pass this on to them as well.. TY for being great hosts and wonderful friends
