  1. The indictment is available on line. It doesn't appear Paterno committed a crime, but unfortunately for him this is not really about whether or not he committed a crime. It's about not reporting reasonable suspicion of a crime being committed under his watch to the civil authorities. He had an ethical and moral responsiblity to at least go to campus security. There's no valid excuse for him not to go to the proper authorities, not even the fact that he reported it to his university superiors. There's no telling how many further incidents might have been avoided if he had reported it to the cops.

He reported it his AD and Gary Schultz, who is, was in charge of Campus Police, not Security but Campus Police.

In the grand jury report it says Schultz was director of finance. I've read several articles saying that Paterno did not go to police, and even that itself may be subject to criminal action. Of course, articles can be wrong too, and there's lots of stuff flying around.

  3. I actually heard something completely different... My brother in law is a grad student prof on east campus and one of his students was a former player and involved with the equipment staff... He advised that the interaction between t mart and Bo was about t mart learning that Cody green was going into the game and t mart actually made some very inappropriate comments about him and his abilities... I very rarely have "inside" sources.... But I trust this one for what it's worth...

i would like to believe this one if anything.... we know t-magic was a strong strong strong competitor and i could see this... but totally the wrong way to go about making the situation known.... i think doing this would really hurt his rep with the guys on the team... i mean the offense knows CG isnt the best but i bet they resepect him a whole lot more than t-magic... which means when t-magic comes back there will be a lot of work to foster positive relationships with the guy he would be playing with......

What? You'd think TM had been taking his lead from this board or something.

  4. Even with Martinez at full speed it could be a tough game. You all seemed to forget here that Iowa State beat Texas (in Austin), a team the handled Nebraska (easily I might add) at home.

ISU takes great pride in beating Nebraska and every generation or so they prove. I recall, when I was at Ames in the fall of 76 and 77, two back to back victories.

I am a huge Rex and Plano Senior backer (he is not from Plano East like the idiot on ABC has said the last two weeks), but I still have that little tug in my heart back to the days of yore.

"Handled"? Don't think so. Although TX played a solid game, Nebraska beat themselves with mental errors; 3 or 4 dropped passes for TD's that should have been gimmes.

  5. There was so much wrong with this game I don't think one guy can be fingered. The team was not ready to play which is primarily the coache's responsibility. They'll go to work on it and hopefully come out of this better than before. We're fortunate we weren't playing a stronger team cuz we got outplayed by SDSU.

  6. With that comment of his about coaching elsewhere bla bla bla, i'm surprised some panic bunnies dont already have a petition out to fire him.

    :yeah

There are people jumping out windows with the thought he is leaving. "Bo is not a Husker never was never will be" as they leap. Of course this is only a dream and they wake up Sunday morning in a bed full of bodily fluids as they actually sh%t themselves thinking it was reality.

    GBR GBR GBR

yep, and now it's all "he doesnt really wanna be here, it's just a bridge to get back to ohio st when tressel leaves, what a bad hire, we shoulda gotten gill, Bo doesnt wanna stay here"

The context of this comment was a question about teams playing to the level of the opposition, not directly about the team's poor play against SDSU. He said something about having never heard of that, that's not the way you win championships, we don't play like that here, and if that's the kind of team we're going to be (inference that it definitely is not) he'd better go find a different job. All he was saying is the team should always play to the best of its ability regardless of the opponent and we (the Huskers) were not prepared for the game. He does not "prepare to the level of the opponent."

  7. the thing i hate by the bye week is the fact that i sign on to this forum daily, and having so much time before the next game, im gonna have to read all the debbie downer threads!

Here's a thought....instead of complaining about others complaining....you could just not pay attention to it.

Here's another thought....instead of complainging about others complaining about others complaining.... you could just not pay attention to it. Oh wait, I'm complainging about others complaing about others complaingin about others complaining. :nutz

  8. I don't think Osborne tried to hang 70 points on others. The Husker teams that did that were just that good and deep. The opponents were so tired and beat by the 4th I think they just wanted it to be over so they could go home. If the 2nd & 3rd strings run wild, so be it, but I wouldn't want to see the Huskers intentionally try to humiliate SDSU. It probably will be (it should be) bad enough as it is.

  9. He may not have gotten stupid over night, but his offense sure can get SUCKY overnight.

Too many towerring highs, followed by abyss like lows.

I'm constantly reminded of how similar these types of comments are to similar comments made in the late 80's and early 90's about Osborne. TO's offense didn't change much, but he was suddenly a genius when he got the right combination of talent. Remember that in 1991 Miami held TO's offense to 171 total yards (82 rushing) while shutting out NU 22-0. The bitching after that season was eerily similar to the bitching about Watson right now.

yep, Osborne "couldn't win the big ones." Some folks were even talking about needing a better coach.

  10. Here's a quote from the article on edition.cnn.com (go there for more) about African's playing in the NFL.

Standing at almost two meters tall and weighing around 136 kilos, 23-year-old Suh is the latest player of African descent to join the NFL. The defensive tackle, who was the second overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, grew up in a multi-cultural family, his father hailing from Cameroon and his mother from Jamaica.

"They're very similar and hard working cultures and helped me become the man I am today and instilled a lot of values into me, which is working hard and being very humble for the things that I've earned. And on top of that, never take anything for granted," Suh told CNN.

The Detroit Lions are hoping that Suh can strengthen the team's defense. But the natural athlete knows that it's just as important to help his team as it is to help his community.

In April, prior to the NFL Draft and before knowing how much money he would be making, Suh pledged $2.6 million to the University of Nebraska in a move designed to showcase his appreciation for the place where he played college football and majored in construction management.

Suh says he values education as much as football and hopes to spread his passion for learning to his father's homeland of Cameroon, even though he's never been there before.

"I would like to get back to Cameroon and more or less help in the education area," he says. "I know the education system isn't the very best and that's one of the reasons why my dad left the country and ventured off for a better education and came to Portland, so I think that's a big thing that needs to be somewhat addressed."
