KS HUSKER

First, let me say I'm a Husker fan by marriage. I married a woman who is a fanatical Husker fan right to the red nail polish she wears on her toes and she has truly gotten me to be a Husker fan as well. The three games I've attended at Memorial Stadium and the two bowl games I attended proved to me that Nebraska fans are the best in the world. As for Frank Solich and all your comments, I'll say this: When did the man EVER bad mouth that piece of buffalo dung known as Steve P? Never, to my knowledge. And I'll say this about him too: He's a better man than I am because if I was Frank Solich, the last photo anyone would have taken of me would have been one of me whizzing over that jerk's photo. What did Steve P do? Oh, no less than call what became a 9-3 season "mediocre." Nebraska fans should be grateful for what Solich did which was just short of dedicating his LIFE to a football program that made every citizen of the Corn Husker state proud, and everyone else outside of Nebraska just an envious bum outside looking in. You owe him at least that much.

Could not have been said any better! Solich dedicated over 30 years of his life to the Husker Football program (player and coach).

Great point. He had a monster sophomore year and then had a season ending injury to his ankle in week 4, I believe. I just really think he fits that Bo Pelini mentality of bust your butt, fly to the ball, and cause a train wreck.

 

 

Saw him play a couple games last fall down here in Kansas and he is the real deal. Comparing him to Jordan Bedore out of Goodland, KS(now starting center for K-State but played LB in high school), Bird has him on speed (not even close) and just having that physical presence. This kid flies to the football on every down. He busted a 55 yard TD run after running over one our defensive linemen like a Mack truck and then put in another gear and outran everyone to the endzone. Plays for a 3A powerhouse down here in Conway Springs with 5 state titles the past 9 years. Has that nasty mentality that would fit great with a Bo Pelini coached team. Would be a great get for the Big Red!

 

I think that Jaydan would be a great fit for the 'skers. Has your local media covered him at all? If so, have they mentioned anything regarding college preference?

Our local media has not mentioned anything about college choices yet. I coach down here and it's a lot of "hey, I heard that he's really interested in......." - Once we start getting closer to August, I'm sure the Wichita Eagle (our paper) will start digging up and putting the info in the paper. The kid is good!

60 tackles in 4 games WOW

K so this is like fourth hand information. My mom was told by her friend(the superendents' wife) that Barney Cotton was in Maxwell, Nebraska I believe it was yesterday to recruit Kiefer Burke as a Walk-on, Bo was supposed to be there but was held up by the snow. He had offers to Iowa St, Wyoming, Chadron St and UNK. Was set up to take visits to Chadron St and UNK and has reportedly(by my Mom, haha) canceled. So yeah nothing like small town gossip, but I couldn't help but let you guys in because I knew he was being recruited by Iowa St and Wyoming but when I heard that Barney was in my home town I got goosebumps. I hope he is 'N' as I've seen him play many times and all I can say is "Mackovicka", Maxwell plays 8 man football and anytime someone would hit Keifer, it would be a speed bump, he'd gain a couple more yards and you hardly ever see him get tackled by less that 3 people. The way it was implied to me is that he is going to be we walking on at Nebraska. I tried looking for stats, videos etc, but can't find anything I just had to share to get rid of the goosebumps. Mostly because Maxwell was in the dumps when it came to football, we made state in 91 and then my sophomore year(02) we finally broke the loosing streak of like 40ish games. They went 9-1 this year, went undefeated in the regular season and lost because they had to play on the road in the second round which is just dumb. I'm not sure how the playoffs are ran but I think it's "Dee Dee Dee" that a team that is 9-0 has to play a 7-2 team 2 hours away. The story I got is everyone gets to play a home game which is "Dee Dee Dee", I think if a team is undefeated they have deserved the right to play at home they seed teams using their points system why not grant home field based off that same points system???? A lil off subject but that has been bothering me since November anyway.

Honestly, we need to be thinking about the future. This isn't going to solve anything.

Excellent point. You know damn good and well that's what those two are thinking! I just can't understand Ruud. He knows what it takes to wear those Blackshirts and to not follow with what Bowman did absolutley makes me sick. I'm not upset because Ruud and MeKeon are below average LB's. Number one, I'm just confused as to why Coz does not get the "Playmakers" on the field, we know who they are......get 'em out there! Number two, to think that Ruud and MeKeon walked onto the practice field with their Blackshirts on and Bowman coming out with his still in his locker just floors me.

Great news on Bowman. On Byford, did he actually get pciked up off his feet on a play? Our watch party could not believe what we had just saw! I haven't watched the game a second time (probably won't) but we could have swore his 300 lb body was up in the air and slammed to the turf. Yuk!

 

Yes. I can't remember exactly when it happened (because of my fabulous 'Husker Punch' I made, my memory was somewhat lost in the second half) but they replayed it in slow motion 3 or for times. Immediately after the snap, Ellis came up from his stance, popped Byford on the chest with both hands, and Byford flipped onto his back like a turtle. Ellis blew up the running play in the backfield.

Thanks man. I thought that is what I saw. Like you, I thought it might have been to many Shiner Bock's and my eyes, along with our entire party, were seeing things. How I miss the day when we were unleashing the punsihment.

I don't care if Ruud is the linebacking equivalent of Albert Einstein. He can't tackle, at least this season and last, and McKeon is so far out of position that you'd think he was magnetically attracted to the wrong sorts of O lineman. I personally am not concerned about their pride. After Saturday all they have left to them is shame. Put the young guys in, and who cares if they make a few mistakes against Ball St. and Iowa St. Get them in there, let them play, let them develop in a couple real games, and then at the very lest you'll have a second string LB corps that have enough game experience to face the right direction. Hell, maybe they can tackle, too.

 

By the way, are there any other teams out there that miss like 25 tackles on one drive? I don't think I'll ever get over it, not until someone lays a licking on a running back so big that it puts him on the sideline for a quarter or two.

I'm just as frustrated as you. It was the worst tackling exhibition that I've seen in a long time! The coaches have got to be beside themselves with that performance, wouldn't they? I'm not even talking about athletes and speed here, because we all saw how USC is loaded with horses. I'm simply talking about the fundamentals of tackling. It was missing versus Wake and it sure as hell was missing Saturday night. Yes, they beat us either way but we really looked silly out there. I thought I would never ever say that about a Blackshirt unit in all my 25 years of watching Cornhusker Football. Sad.

I have been hitting that on several threads. We supposedly have these damn good recruits that can fly and yet we seem to be settled in with Ruud and McKeon. Okay to start them in this game but holy cow when your down 42-10 and these guys and a couple others looks like fools out there, give these young bucks a shot! Dillard looked good, I would also love to see LaTravis Washington get a shot. The no brainer is Thenarse. EVERYTIME he is on te field, he makes a play. Isn't that what you want as a Def. Cordinator, guys that just make plays. Sorry but Ruud and Mekeon are not it.

I guess it scares me when Ruud and Mckeon play this way and we are supposed to have these young bucks that are athletic as hell and they stand along the sideline chewin' their mouthpieces. Down 42-10 and with the way the Blackshirts where playing, put 'em in there and see what they do! I wouldn't think it could any worse, could it? Everyone on this board saw the way we were tackling. There was no physical presence by the Blackshirts at all. It was very, very frustrating to watch. Oh well, let's get ready for Ball St. and then the Big 12.

Great article written up by Sam MeKewon today about those players. WHY is Thenarse not seeing the field except special teams? He is a playmaker that deserves a shot!!! Do Phillip Dillard and LaTravis Washington tackle the sameway Ruud and MeKeon do, which is the worst I've seen out of Husker LB's in a long long time! Thenarse, Dillard, Washington, Octavian, Brandenburgh, this guys are LB's with speed and an attitude. Again, I know we don't see the practices and are not around the players 7 days a week but you can't tell me that Ruud and MeKeon are better. If so, then the Huskers really are in trouble. There, I feel a little better and I'll get off the soapbox.

The run D was pathetic, I dont think it was an issue of scheme though. Very often the players were in position to make a play and due to poor angles, poor tackling and poor effort they didnt. IMO Coz did ok in his stratagy, I just think he is a poor LB's coach. Coz is not one of the top 10 DC's in the country (understatement), hell hes probably not in the top 30, but this one falls heavilly on the players.

Totally agree with all points here. D-Line was overmatched and LB's need to learn how to breakdown and make the damn tackle!! Mekeon and Rudd are sooooooo bad. Octavien and Dillard play with a motor and you can see they have a passion to play the position.

Reality is that the Huskers are not able to play with the SoCal's, LSU, OU, and West Virginia's right now but we can play with Texas, Wisconsin, Penn St., etc. etc. We are a Top 20 team that will win 9 or 10 games and probably win our bowl game.
