  1. Tom Osborne didn't always have top recruiting classes and was able to compete most of his coaching career. Most people put way too much stock in stars.Of course there are exceptions to every rule but, STARS MEAN NOTHING IMO!

    GBR! :wootx2

Fresno State doesn't/didn't have nearly the talent we do and look what they did to USC. Then they decided to lose to 2 bad WAC teams, but they gave USC all they could handle.

  2. I much as I don't want to admit it, CU will be good here in a few years. Right now they have little to no talent, with exceptions to a few freshman and soph. Hawkins a a really good coach and given time that program will be turned around. Cody Hawkins (Dan's son) went to the Nike football camp and was ranked as the #4 quarterback, the only shortcoming he has is that he is only 5'11. I personally think that Chris Peterson needs to be given more credit for what BSU did, but don't think for one sec that Colorado will continue to be bad. By the end of the season they should be much improved, they still won't beat us but they will be much better than they are now.

  3. I dont really think anybody is saying that we should have passed the ball 60 times, but running 39 times for less than 2 yards a carry didn't work. It was obvious that it didn't work by the end of the first half! So, start mixing in more of the pass. Thats not saying pass it every down but put some in. That lack of adjustment is just poor coaching.

I stand by that if we had passed 25-30 times that the game would have been closer. Think about it, going three and out on three rushing plays doesn't really keep the defense off the field. Now if a few of those passes got first downs, the defense could be off the field longer and we might have had more of a chance to score. I'm not saying one bit we would have won, but I think the difference would have been less than 18, and the team would have looked better.

  4. No I can see what your saying I guess I'm just playing the devils advocate so to speak!!! I can't say that I don't disagree with his play calling because I do!!!! I would have came out firing the ball out to our receivers and made the USC defensive secondary stop us!!! Until they stopped us I would continue to throw the ball. But, having said that he definately wants everyone to know that we have a running game and to not take that for granted!!!! :dunno

An average of less than 2 yards a carry isn't scary at all!

  5. I agree that we have a much deeper play book and could have opened a few things up, but people are already calling for Cally's head and that's just ridiculous!!!! I mean he's done a lot in the few years he has been here to go from an option team to a 600+ playbook WCO team!!!!

I disagree. It's been 3 years now, he has his players, and his system is in. The excuses are wearing thin.

At least now we know that he wasn't "holding anything back" in those first 2 games, because the play calling in this game wasn't any more imaginitive, or less "vanilla."

<<Waving the bullsh#t flag>> You ever stop to think Caly called the plays he did to see how USC would react and then realized he could be in for a long night if he didn't go more conservative??

Honestly what would it have hurt to open it up right after USC went up 21-3? At least give Taylor a shot! The one drive he opened it up a bit we scored a touchdown!

  6. I can see what your saying aweshucks and it is kinda dishearting to see that he didn't go deeper into our playbook, but I know you and everyone else knows that we still have a very good chance at a good season!!!! :dunno

I agree, and I think we will win the Big 12 north and go to the Holiday Bowl or maybe, just maybe the Cotton Bowl. I don't believe BC to be the coach to lead us back to the top.

  7. I have never liked Callahan, and weither he likes it or not this was a big game and a very poor showing. Think about it a game in Southern California, huge for recruiting and national stage and he calls only 17 passes in a West Coast system.

  8. If we passed every other down we would have givin them more scoring oppertunites. The game plan was to keep it close. Do we really think that we could match USC speed to speed. Did everybody see their speed on their defense? Tell me, how do tou beat a speed team? You run the ball. How do you think the Patriots always beat the Colts in the playoffs? They run the ball and play defense. Everybody thinks we could beat them in a trackmeet. We had to run the ball to shorten the game.

What about all the sweeps on 3rd and 6 or 8. That does nothing to stop that team speed.

  9. No, I won't.  This was more than making mistakes.  This was philosophy and mindset.  And I don't know if I want a coach with that kind of philosophy and mindset leading Husker Nation.

    Give me a break! :dumdum

I would agree with you other than the fact that Callahan quoted that this game will not define our season, and the play calling was so conservative. He was playing not to lose big, that is not the kind of coach I want in a program.

What if he does this next year vs USC?

  10. Callahan screwed up this game. He didn't open the play book other than dive, draw, sweep, screen, 1 long pass, and 1 fake punt. The game maybe wouldn't have been closer but I would have a lot more respect for a coach that doesn't play to lose.
