Edited by Mods to remove personal attack Did you ever think that potential recruits go on and read these boards? They do very much so. What do you think these asinine remarks do for recruiting and recruits? You think top recruits want to go into a situation where the coach is on the hotseat? Dumbest thing in the world we could do is lose him...

  2. Can someone explain to me how to get to the BCS (minus the at-large) *without* winning your division in the Big 12? Please, tell me. I really want to know how we can not win the North because apparently it's below us? Get real.

DaveH, I guess my point is that winning the Big 12 North, while certainly should be A GOAL, it shouldn't be THE GOAL. We didn't have a sign in the locker room that said BEAT SOUTHEAST NORTH DAKOTA COMMUNITY COLLEGE, or whatever lame teams we play for our season openers. Sure, those are short-term goals required to have a good season, but it just seems to me like way too much was made of winning the north, and not nearly enough effort was made to establish a good goal after we made the Big 12 title game. Like I said, seems like the coaches just relaxed after the big goal of winning the north was achieved.

It's gotta be a goal though because you can't get anywhere without it and you can't exactly just look past it. No one said it was "THE GOAL". As a matter of fact, after the north was secured, the goal turned to the big 12 championship per the captains as you would expect.

To be technically correct in the sense of establishing goals--The goal should be to win the NC. We should have OBJECTIVES along the way to achieve the goal--ie win the B12N...win the B12...no losses, etc.

  3. T. O. played mostly in the Big VIII or the Big II and little 6. And back in the day they did play cupcake teams also. How many Big VIII teams were we 20-0 against for all those years. How tough could those teams really be? Apples and Oranges people.

    GBR

TO beat five ranked teams, two top ten teams his first season

He beat two ranked teams his second season

How many ranked teams did we beat this year?

TO finished ranked in the top 10 his first 15 seasons.

How many top 10 for BC so far? How many top 20?

You are right, it is apples and oranges. Comparing TO to BC is like comparing a Mercedes Benz to a Yugo. It’s not fair. But hey, I did not bring up the comparison…that was done by an earlier poster. I also did not call for BC to be fired. I just think BC is, and should be, open to criticism. He is not the devil, but he is not God (or Tom Osborne) either.

Oh, and so did TO take over from a struggling program, 6 years removed from a NC and going downhill? 20 years ago you would have been saying the same thing about a comparison between TO and the Bobfather.

  4. This thread makes me want to go and SMASH something!!!! :madash This after a loss call for Callahan's head talk is bullsh#t!!! Who are we going to hire??? Who would actually want to come and coach here knowing that if they don't win a Big XII Title and go to a BCS bowl game in 3 years they will be fired??? Oh I know......................NO ONE!!!!

Barry Alvaraz wants to coach at NU...

Brilliant! :asshat There's some logic--how would Alvarez be better than BC?

  5. Yo, you Edited by Mods to remove personal attack who are calling for Callahan's firing--you guys don't have the slightest clue how to run an organization. You don't fire someone for something like that! You hire head coaches to provide vision and direction for the team. He's a great leader. Even though his assistants may make mistakes, he takes the blame. Edited by Mods to remove personal attacks

Everything about our program is great; its going in the right direction. Things need corrected, no program is perfect; and BC has proved that when he sets his mind of fixing things, it gets fixed.

  6. Its nice to have Fox competing against the ABC/ESPN duo, but let's face it: college football is a second class citizen on Fox (NFL #1) and you can tell by the announcing teams that are assigned to the typical Fox college football game. Brutal comes to mind.

If Fox wanted to, they could do a good job; 5-10 years ago I was in Hawaii and they did an excellent job--there was a Fox "Game Day" package you could get and got to see a lot of good match-ups and was spared the ESPN crap for the most part.

  7. Okay, here comes yet another one of my infamous rants.

    Alright I warned you…

    Here goes….

This dissing of games not covered by ESPN is nothing new. All of you Husker fans old enough to remember the 1997 season think back and take a walk down memory lane with me.

ESPN/ABC was going to air the Rose Bowl that year as well. Early in the season, Nebraska was ranked #1, but there was no chance of the Huskers ending up on ESPN/ABC. That year the Orange Bowl (Nebraska’s conference tie-in) was to be aired on CBS. So early in the year ESPN ran a hype campaign about who should be #1 between the winner of the Michigan vs. Penn State game (I am pretty sure that was the match-up). Oh, good `ol ESPN seemed to conveniently forget that there was already a #1 team that was not playing in that particular match-up. But, like I mentioned before, ESPN was not going to get a chance to air the game that Nebraska was going to play in if they won their conference and remained #1. IMO this was a blatant, purposeful, premeditated attempt to screw Nebraska for the sake of ratings. And if you all remember, lo and behold, after Michigan and Penn State played, Michigan jumped Nebraska and was crowned the new #1 team. If you don’t think that was orchestrated by ESPN, then you probably believe the Warren report’s lone gunman theory.

Another bi-product of ESPN/ABC’s shameless self-promotion was the way they screwed Peyton Manning out of the Heisman Trophy. Once again, ESPN/ABC was going to show the Rose Bowl, and Peyton Manning was going to play in the Sugar or Orange Bowl. So about mid-season ESPN began showing highlights of all of Charles Woodson’s offensive plays (they knew a pure defensive player would never win the Heisman). In contrast, whenever they showed Peyton Manning highlights, they would show him getting sacked or throwing an interception. Never mind that Manning put up incredible numbers that should have made him the clear favorite for the Heisman; ESPN/ABC wanted to hype the “National Championship game, featuring Heisman Trophy winner Charles Woodson.” I must have seen a hundred highlights of Woodson running back punts for TD’s. Want to know the funny thing? He only returned one. That’s right, for all the Woodson punt return highlights he only returned ONE FREAKING PUNT for a TD.

If that is not enough evidence of the ESPN/ABC self promotion, when some people had the audacity to suggest that if Nebraska won the Orange Bowl and Michigan won the Rose Bowl, perhaps they should split the national title, all of the hacks on ESPN began the mantra “If a team is #1 and they win, then you have to leave them #1.” I must have heard a dozen ESPN idiot analyst make that or similar remarks to the effect that if Michigan won out they deserved the national title. Funny thing is, where was the outcry for fairness earlier in the season when Nebraska was #1 and the sportswriters jumped Michigan over us? Oh, I forgot, that didn’t suit ESPN/ABC’s shameless attempts to bolster the ratings for the game they were going to televise.

Well, that’s my rant against ESPN/ABC…at least for now…I’ve already weighed in with my feelings about Mark May and that whining little piece of sh*t Herbstiet.

I suppose ESPN is also harboring terrorists here as well? I am now dumbing for reading your post.

Get a clue BRS! You are "dumbing" for reading the post?!?! Dee dee dee! Cal Husker is right on. Do your homework and you'll discover its true.

  8. I don't know that his depiction of hicks does the state any good, but then I've never much cared for what anyone else thinks about Nebraska as a state. BUt any fan of the Husker is a friend of mine, in some way, and I tolerate his hick humor (some of which is really funny though) because of his unabashed support for the Huskers.

Having lived in the southeast the last several years, I'll tell you that most of the southerners, especially the rednecks, have no idea he's from Nebraska (maybe they are starting to catch on). In fact, most of them seem to believe he is from the South and don't know what to say when I tell them he's from Nebraska, but they still love him. I was fortunate enough to have seen his show while he was touring the south and it was excellent. Seated all around me were the epitomes of rednecks--just added so much to the show.

  9. haha, I just meant why was 60 minutes doing a show on him? I know who the guy is....I just find it strange the show that does "Revisiting The Horrors Of The Holocaust" and "Gen. Abizaid On Stabilizing Iraq" is doing a special on Larry the Cable Guy.

    that's all :)

I'm still baffled. Usually they are uncovering dirt on someone (real or imagined) and then making a story out of it. Do you mean to tell me this was a feel-good story!

Cowboys rally from 16-0 deficit to stun Huskers

"We looked at them on tape and noticed that teams that tried to run between the tackles had a lot of problems," OSU offensive coordinator Larry Fedora said. "We felt like we could get the edge on them - and we did."

Believe I saw USC running it on us during that game fairly effectively. Watch out. We don't fix that and everyone will run that on us the rest of the year.

On a side note--why is it we seem to stink in the 3d quarter? For those who say play calling a problem--look at execution first. Lots of dropped passes. Main coaching issue I am scratching my head about is taking BJAX out and putting in Lucky. BJAX was on fire. Granted OSU made adjustments to shut down the run and that's why we had to pass...and when your receivers aren't catching, offense sputters.
