  1. ok captain negative, put down the pistol...and sit down and take a deep breath. Once your calm, look at the calendar...It's April. Watch a baseball game and relax. Talk to us about doom and gloom in September...at that point if you still feel it's necessary, you can pick back up el pistola.

Watch it..."Captain Negative" might be a personal attack..

  2. Just wait,,this could be a very long year.

The spring game IMO was a complete bust...i mean what does it say about the defense when Helu runs over a line and knocks down a linebacker?

And lets face it Glenn is a good athlete but he sucked at pass defense looked lost half the time.

Our Defensive backs looked ok but not great.

    The D-line looked ok.

I am still not sold on Joe Ganz, it is kinda sad he is out best QB.

Marlon Lucky stunk up the place.

I think we should be happy with a 6-6 season...7+ wins almost seem out of the question.

I pray they prove me wrong.

Wow now I remember why I haven't come in here that much in the last few months...for posts like this. There is no coach alive that will live up to the ureasonably high expectations "fans" like this have on a team.

I use the term "fan" VERY loosely.

OH no hope I didn't offend anyone here don't wanna be warned....

  3. I generally think of a monster defense when I think of Nebraska but then I think of this:

Since 1970 - Nebraska has only been held scoreless in TWO games!!!!

That's 37 years people....maybe 300 games....and to be held scoreless in only 2 games. It boggles the imagination.

Question of the day....name the years and the teams that held them scoreless

Bonus Question....How many times has Iowa State been shut out over the same 37 year time period?

Final Bonus Question....How many times has NU held their opponent scoreless over the past 30 years?

    Hurray for Trivia

Hmm if I recall wasn't one the year we played ASU and they beat us 19-0? Was that 1996?

    Don't recall other one

  4. You should post pictures of you car and the license plate on here after you get it all done. I wanted a Charger but i've read that their transmissions are terrible and their not real good on fuel efficient so that's why i'll probably be getting a V6 Camry. I hope that your Husker Charger doesn't have any problems.

Actually I looked them up and they rate real well on www.Edmunds.com Right now you can get the Charger SE PLus package which come with the 3.5 L V6, power seats, 17 inch wheels and CD/MP3 player with 1 year of Sirius for about 4000 off sticker with rebate and package discount! I got the TorRed color which is basically Husker red. Now I gotta pimp it all out with Husker stuff haha

How about this for a plate CALLAWHO

  5. OK so just got my Husker red Dodge Charger (no Hemi too many tickets) and wanted to get some personalized Husker plates. Do any of you have any good ideas of what to put on a Husker plate?

Was wondering if I could do like "Got Bo" or "Bo Noz" something like that.

    Scott

    BOGASTIC.

    BOGASM.

    IM4BO.

IM4BO! I LIKE IT! I was going to do ALL4BO too

  7. Pelini Humbled to be NU coach

    By Terry Douglass

    terry.douglass@theindependent.com

Bo Pelini was happy at LSU.

Serving as the Tigers' defensive coordinator for the past three seasons, Pelini was one of the highest-paid assistants in the country. And while he certainly had aspirations of one day becoming a head coach, Pelini wasn't going to leave a good gig in Baton Rouge, La., for just any job.

Then, Tom Osborne came calling. The legendary, former Nebraska head coach turned athletics director made Pelini an offer he couldn't refuse.

"When Coach Osborne presented this opportunity to me and we talked about it, it became obvious that this was where I needed to be and this was where my family needed to be," Pelini said. "Because what I've learned over the years that I've been coaching is this: It's about the people."

Pelini knew exactly what he would be getting into if he rejoined the pressure-filled atmosphere in Husker Nation. He was the defensive coordinator for Nebraska during the tumultuous 2003 season when Frank Solich was fired after a 9-3 regular season.

But after Osborne's offer, Pelini said he couldn't imagine himself anywhere else. Never mind that expectations at Nebraska are almost always lofty.

"They should be," Pelini said. "When you have the support that's sitting here throughout the whole state of Nebraska, to me, the sky's the limit."

Pelini was in Grand Island Thursday afternoon for the Central Nebraska Big Red Luncheon at the Heartland Events Center. Along with Osborne, Pelini was joined by his entire coaching staff at the event, which drew an estimated crowd of 1,100.

Pelini told the gathering that he was humbled by the opportunity to be the head coach at Nebraska. The 40-year-old native of Youngstown, Ohio, added that he considers his job a tremendous responsibility and that he's here to serve the football program, his players and the people of this state.

Osborne, who fired former coach Bill Callahan after Nebraska's 5-7 season in 2007, said the fiery Pelini and his strong defensive resume simply seemed like the right man at the right time for the program.

In talking with coaches and players who had worked with Pelini in the past, Osborne said he failed to find anyone with a negative opinion of Pelini. A winner of 255 games and three national titles during his 25-year head coaching career, Osborne said he liked Pelini's ability to communicate, motivate and the fact that Pelini's defenses have had a knack for creating turnovers.

The low-key Osborne also said he likes Pelini's passion.

"That was a problem throughout my coaching career," Osborne said. "I was presumed to be too bland, too nice and wouldn't be able to win the big one, but we've got a guy now who won't be too bland and too nice.

    "We have rectified that problem."

New Nebraska linebackers coach Mike Ekeler, who worked with Pelini at LSU, said he has no doubt that the Husker players will soon take on the personality of their new head coach.

"There's not a more fierce competitor in the sport," Ekeler said. "You want to talk about somebody who hates to lose, hate isn't the right word. That man despises it."

With Nebraska having suffered through two losing seasons in the past four years under Callahan, Pelini said he wants the program to return to its roots.

"I heard somebody talking about the new tradition, and I don't believe that," Pelini said. "I believe it's back to THE tradition that's the old tradition. There's nothing new that I'm bringing here. I want to lean on what this place has been built on for a long time."

Pelini stressed that rebuilding Nebraska's football program is going to be a process.

"Things don't happen overnight and there are no quick fixes in life," Pelini said. "You have to build a foundation, you have to do things the right way, you have to get everybody on the same page, you have to develop relationships, you have to build trust, you have to develop accountability in all areas and that takes time."

However, Pelini said he's encouraged that things are already headed in the right direction. He said he's been impressed with the players the Huskers already have in the program and is excited about the program's new recruiting class, which will include 30 walk-on players.

"It's a tremendous group of young men with high character and a lot of talent," Pelini said. "Our job is to develop that talent."

And Pelini said he thinks he has the coaching staff to do just that.

"They're not only good football coaches we're going to be on the cutting edge X- and O-wise but they have men of great character, they're great communicators and great teachers," Pelini said. "At the end of the day, our players are going to know that we care about them."

Since taking over full time at Nebraska after helping LSU capture a national championship, Pelini and his staff have started work on building a culture he hopes to instill at Lincoln. The chief concept for his players: Do things the right way in every aspect of life and be accountable for everything, from the minute they wake up in the morning until they go to sleep each night.

"Everything counts," Pelini said. "You can't let one part of your life slip and expect to make up for it later in the day. We're not just preparing them to win on Saturday afternoon, we're preparing them for life after football as well because it all goes hand in hand."

As for next season, Pelini said he's not one to make predictions in terms of wins and losses. However, he did offer one promise for 2008.

"When our team takes the field, you're going to have a group of men out there who will go out there and play with their hearts and they're going to play with passion," Pelini said. "That's what football is all about and how that translates into (wins) and (losses), that will take care of itself."

Everything this guy says further convinces me that he's the man for the job. I'm officially beer-bonging the Pelini Kool-Aid. :koolaid2:

Pour me a glass, I think we have the right guy. :thumbs:thumbs

    GBR!!!

I think I may have chubbed up hahaha

  8. What does ISU have that's entertaining?? Other than that one strip club downtown Ames that I went to when my job sent me to Ames for a few days. I gotta tell you. That strip club was......let's just say......quite the experience :thumbs .

What is the name of that strip club in downtown Ames? I went there several years ago in the summer when me and my buddies went to play golf at the Harvester. For $1 the girls would come down off the stage and give you a lap dance....AMAZING!!!

  9. Kansas at 10-2 in 2008!

It's a documented fact that every time Kansas looks like they are going to finally gain sustained respectability...they end up totally sucking the next year. Kansas has a two year cycle of success about every 10 years

    1967 - 5-5

    1968 - 9-2 Bowl Game

    1969 - 1-9

    1980 - 4-5-2

    1981 - 8-4 Bowl Game

    1982 - 2-7-2

    1991 - 6-5

    1992 - 8-4 Bowl Game

    1993 - 5-7

Then, for some reason, there was a statistical blip in the cycle

    1994 - 6-5

    1995 - 10-2 Bowl Game

    1996 - 4-7

After that...not a single winning record till 2005

    2005 - 7-5

    2006 - 6-6

    2007 - 12-1 Bowl Game

    2008 - 5-7 (my prediction)

Kansas football success is NOT historically self-sustaining...therefore, Kansas will find itself at or near the bottom of the B-12 North next year.

Historically Kansas hasn't had a QB like Todd Reesing or a coach as good as Mangino. KU will finish 10-2 my little cyclone friend. Enjoy fighting KSU for last place in the North.

Ha! Mangino! What's he got? An 18-30 record against Big-12 opponents since he's been at KU? A 37-36 overall record since he's been at KU? Ha ha! Keep on beating up on the likes of Florida International and Toledo because once conference play starts things look kind of bleak. What a coach...and don't forget the NCAA violations that took place under his watch. Mangino...the trailer park version of Barry Switzer.

And Reesing - the one hit wonder of 2007 - He's going to wind up in the "Where are they now?" catagory along with those other great KU QB's of history like Williams (95), Hilleary (92), Suerer (81), and Douglass (68). One year doth not a dynasty make.

ISU, meanwhile, is playing Kansas' schedule in 2008....all bread with no meat. We'll easily clean up the non-conference, Baylor, A&M, KSU and Okie State...throw Colorado in there too while you're at it...and we have NU, MU and KU all at home... Looks like a 7-6 or even 8-4 season to me.

Sorry Kansas...we'll wave to you as we go by...

Cyclone, you're so full of _$%^&___ your eyes are turning brown!! There is no way on gods green earth Iowa State wins 6 games. It's not going to happen. KU beat ISU 45-7 or was it 52-13? Who really cares at this point. Your team is garbage. I don't even know why I'm responding to your nonsense of a response.

Mangino won 8 National coaching awards this year. National awards!! How many has your sorry excuse of a coach won? He's taking your team into the toilet. There is no way you'll compete for anything but last in the North next year! LOL. I still can't believe your predicting 7-8 wins for ISU. LOL. Taht's the funniest thing I've read in years!!

Yes KU has to play at Norman, and yes I think they'll lose, but they won't lose to Texas or Texas Tech (both games in Lawrence I might add). Reesing has been dieing to get on the field against Texas (the team that snubbed him). Cyclone fan, you really have no idea what you're talking about. Finish above 500 next year and then you can talk, til that time please go back to your room because the adults are having a serious conversation.

    \

Oh you're an "adult" what kind of nimrod comes on a Husker board and says we'll be 7-5 go back to your room put on your "rock chalk Jayhawk" shirt, cuddle up with your life size Mangino doll and quit smoking those funny cigarettes. Kansas played well last year but it was a fluke. Don't you think if people out there thought they were a new "powerhouse" they'd have a much better recruiting class?? Nebraska had one of its worst seasons in the last 40 years and we had a higher rated recruiting class.

We'll look forward to laying your boys out in Lincoln when the Blackshirts are officially back....throwing the BONES!!

  10. dude..... he's in my top 1

    :yeah:ahhhhhhhh:restore

yeah I agree this kids a beast!!!! He hits HARD!!! can you imagine him roaming back there at safety and someone trys running up the middle? WHAMMMM!!

I have to quit talking about it...I start getting all tingly :)

    Scott

  11. i don't see how. PC is free to contact recruits.

Most people wouldn't recommend talking up another program, but i don't think it's illegal (and PC isn't hurting for players anyway).

no doubt. even their water boys are three deep and have 5 star ratings.

I just want to hear the NWA song every time Will makes a tackle "straight outta Compton"

    Scott

  12. gentlemen, we can rebuild this team. we have the technology. we have the capability to build the world's finest football team. the cornhuskers will be that team. better than they were before.

    better.

    stronger.

    faster.

Bionic??? I can see it now Bo running on to the field with "na na na na na" in the background haha

  13. Oh man. Here most us were ready to accept that Brown was going to A&M, and now that's in question. I can see us getting the impression he's staying and then at the last moment, he's an Aggie. Ouch! I hope we know something right away and not get our little hearts broken. :dunno

Well if the school I originally wanted to go to didn't offer a scholarship to me until someone else backed out, I don't think I change my mind when the other school had you as their #1 choice (Nebraska)

    Scott

  14. for what its worth, his myspace page says hes goin to Nebraska and he has the Nebraska tunnel walk on there from youtube....I don't know how recently that was updated though.

He was on there yesturday, and yeah there is a ton of husker stuff up there... so I'm guess thats a good sign. He really should have his privacy settings up higher, haha... we shouldn't be able to look this stuff up that easily.

Good lord I wonder how many Husker fans have emailed him in the last several months.....pretty cool Blackshirt vids though!

  15. As I was driving home from work I usually listen to 1620 Unsportsmanlike Conduct and they were talking about Will Compton. I believe that Kevin didn't want to say this over the air so Mike decided to take that decision stating this:

According to a Will Compton Myspace page it states this, "My name is Will, im 6'2", blue eyes, light brown hair. I go to North County High School. My favorite sport is football, i also wrestle. Right now my life couldnt get any better. I have the best friends anyone could possibly ever have, and I'm goin to the UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA!"

Kevin and Mike both started laughing as well as I did :rollin:rollin:rollin

So I checked it out and sure enough there it was and they were telling the truth, still funny though. And you thought that wikipedia was the greatest place to get reliable info :sarcasm

Here's the link Will Comptons Myspace

Well he does have some pretty cool Blackshirt videos on there one would assume that he is N! However, I think its kinda odd that people would be checking out his Myspace page. Man I wonder how many Husker fans have emailed him in the last several months haha

    Scott

  16. hmm... wonder if there wasn't some financial arrangements made...

I'm sure there was a pay increase included.... I would rather they do that than risk bringing someone else in. Maybe he used it as a bargaining tool to get a raise I mean he should be making at least half of what Pelini does.

  17. Did you see in the OWH article where Watson responded to the rumor by saying something like: I am not going there with this, and I don't know how these rumors get started. That to me is a possible indication that he is not going anywhere. That may not be a denial, but you can interpret it as being close to one. Maybe I'm wishful thinking, but I sure hope he's staying.

(Monitors: I don't mind you moving my thread on Watson into this one. That's not an issue with me, but can you please include the title of the thread in my first post. You made my first and second posts not make sense. Please be careful with that. Thank you.)

I wonder if its entirely possible some other school started the rumor in order to mess with our recruiting (Colorado or Mizzou?)

I don't know something seems odd about the whole thing.....football dept was never contacted Bo nor TO knew. Watson was in Houston recruiting.

    Scott

  18. There are rumors floating around that he will interview for the Offensive Coordinator job at Alabama next week

I really hope this isnt true

Well if you saw the video of the halftime game when they announced the coaches, he was the only one not wearing Husker gear. I know we speculated about this with Crapahan. It could be someone making up rumors to screw up the recruiting........oh well we can get Turner Gill no biggie.

    Scott

  19. Callahan was just named the NY Jets Running Game Coordinator and Assistant HC....

    For those interested - LINK

That HILARIOUS! Running game coordinator? Hes Mr "third and short and pass the ball" actually is going to help the Jet with their running game wouldn;t he have to know what one is first?
