  1. Did the NCAA rules once again change as far as roughing the Quarterback? That penalty on the high sack on Brett Smith yesterday, in prior years, is a completely legal tackle. It was closest to being a horsecollar, yet it wasn't. Can anyonoe enlighten me on this? Or was it simply a case for a first game, small conference Referee seeing a tackle that "looks like" it could hurt a player, and calling it a personal foul?

  2. Not that I give a crap, but should Notre Dame really be playing in the National Championship Game, playing 1 less game than the other BCS schools having to gain entrance after a league championship game? Or does their supposed strength of schedule counter that?

  3. Does anyone know the process for referee review or assessment in the Big 10 Conference? Just curious as to how they are graded by the conference, and who is involved with the assessment? Is it per game? Do the coaches assess? Are there penalties involved with poor performances or blown calls? I understand that we are dealing with human beings here, just wondering about how their product is graded, and in some cases, asked to leave or receive instruction on how to call a game. Thanks!

  4. You know, this was a wierd one. The ESPN coverage showed the play from 2 angles. The one showed the ball extremely close to his foot, but the other angle, with the shdows of the ball falling and hitting the turf, showed it at least a foot away. The replay Ref in his haste to make a call, I am sure did not look at it as close as your average Husker Fan. Hence, a blown replay call.

  5. We were asked at work (4 of us), by our Boss, to help coach a 3rd and 4th grade Pop Warner team this fall due to lack of parent involvement. All of us had had prior playing time and coaching, and even though we are all busy guys, I can say to a man that we had a blast! We went 4 and 4 with many first time players. What we found is that even though the Boss asked us to step up and help out, after a few practices and one game, we all really enjoyed coaching the smaller guys who had not yet formed attitudes about football (I am a quarterback, you must worship me). We found it to be a great community service project, and a great way to learn more about our co-workers...all in all, a great team building event. So much so, we are thinking about going at it again next season. I highly encourage it. Oh and by the way, none of us had kids on the team, so there was no "my kid is a running back" and so on.

  6. I see on Stewart Mandel's SI Page that he has Rex Burkhead and the Nebraska Cornhuskers could be going to the Insight Bowl to face Iowa. Having been a fan of Husker football for many years, is it just me, or does Rex have the look, drive and talent to be the next great Husker? He should be the face of the program right now. This is the type of football player that we are looking for in the future. A true gamer with heart and character to lead a new offensice revitalization. Just need the OC to move it in the right direction.
