  1. yea, thats what i thought at the begininng of the year

i figured we would lose to USC and Texas, keep it close thought, but i figured A&M would be that one game a year that we usually do give away for no reason

    not okie st

I would love to go to the aTm game. I think think that would be an awesome place to watch Nebraska win on the road.

  2. he is a great kid, but let's be honest, is is not exceptional, slightly above average at times, misses throws that he does need to make....you achieve greatness by making those throws.......

    hunter

I won't disagree that he probably isn't a great Q.B. I just think with everything he has given this program, he deserves some slack.

  3. :yeah

I love Taylor. He is tough and has sacrificed his body for this team. In interviews, I get the feeling that he really loves being a Husker. When he is given time to throw, he does a good job. Who wants to be the quarterback in a transition period? It is a thankless job. Especially when you have a coach who doesn't beleive in adjusting his game plan to provide protection.

  4. Who knows...all i have to say is that Cos's Defense is not what it should be and maybe...just possibly...there is a Defensive coordinator out that can do a better job. From what I've seen, Cos just doesn't fit into the defensive picture. Granted, that is tought to hear and even for me to say, obviously the d is good enough to go 9-3 and any other I-A school would love to have seasons like that so why do we complain? Because this is Nebraska!

Oh well, what will happen, will happen and they as the team and us as the fans need to take it all in stride!

    Go Big Red!

If people have unrealistic expectations, blame Pederson. He fired a 10-3 coaching staff because we were “gravitating to mediocrity.” Pederson made it clear that anything less than conference (not just the North Division) and national championships weren’t good enough.

Being a Nebraska fan for over 40 years I know how long it took us to win national championships between the 70s and 90s. Back then, with a few exceptions, Nebraska fans stuck together and supported our coaches. I really think Pederson has created unrealistic expectations among fans when he fired Solich after only one year with his new staff and a 10-3 season. You reap what you sow.(wow, that quote makes me sound real old!)

  5. When we have a team mostly consisting of Callahan's recruits? And by that I mean people that have been recruited as freshman, not juco's (though we have gotten a few high caliber players from them, some still need maturing at the I-A level).

Look, nobody is blaming Solich for all our problems. But like it or not, he left us with a bad legacy in recruiting. If we had no other problems, it wouldn't be a big deal. But that's not even close to reality. We have Cosgrove, who I think is just average, injuries (especially to our best cover man), inexperience, players recruited into a totally different system than they are playing, players being moved to positions they were never recruited to play due to injuries, etc.

There are multiple problems, no one thing is the source of all the problems. And to me that includes Cosgrove.

I guess you give them a free ride for the next three or four years then. I think Callahan is a good head coach. I think Cosgrove is weak. Don't you think Solich's defensive players looked pretty good in his last year under Bo's direction?

  6. Oh great...another disgruntled fan.

Considering NU hasn't played in the Big 12 title game since what, 99 or 00, winning the North division and maybe winning the Big 12 would be a huge accomplishment. We have to establish our dominance within our division first then concentrate on the Conference second then we can look towards winning a National Championship.

Sorry. I think Callahan is a good coach and the program is going in the right direction. But the North is so weak this year, we should win it going away.

  7. Uh, we are still playing with a fair number of Solich recruits. Just because they are playing doesn't mean they are at the level we need them to be. It just means they are as good as we've got right now. There are several reasons why they are as good as we've got right now. We've had injuries, some players have simply not ended up playing up to the level they were expected to play at, some are inexperienced at the I-A level and need maturing, and so on.

The point is, Solich was not a good recruiter and the general caliber of recruit he brought in was not as high as we'd like. It takes time to establish your recruiting at a college when you first get there, you just don't get all the recruits you want after the first season (especially if that season is 5-6, or whatever Callahan's first was). We have some good players from Solich and a much larger number of decent players. They are not the only problem, just part of it, along with all the other things I listed.

At what point (# of years) do we stop blaming Solich?

  8. You mean we can still win the Big XII North!!! What an accomplishment that would be!!! Sorry for the sarcasism, but I though Bill was brought here to accomplish a little more than winning a pathetic division of the Big XII!
