  1. Here is a cut up video I made focusing on the offensive line play in the Illinois game.  It is only from the first half, except for a couple of notable plays from the second half.

I'm not sure what I was doing in 2012 when when Arkansas State played in Lincoln, but I always admired your fan base and rooted for you guys when we weren't playing. (See my post history)

A lot has changed in 5 years, for both teams. And then in a lot of ways, not so much.

You may not know this but our OC from last season was demoted and Blake Anderson has taken over play calling duties. We also had a really strong (and physical) fall camp this year, rather than the flag football BS from last year.

Expecting to at least give you guys a good game. (hopefully)

Lastly, don't get too excited about the fact that we are replacing 4 OL. They were not known to be very physical players and were recruited for an entirely different style of offense. (Think more running QB spread vs Pocket, etc). It was a handicap for us now and reportedly this group has shown a lot of promise, though not tons of depth.

I expect a more competitive game than the point spread implies.  I guess I can see us beating the spread by pulling away in the fourth quarter with the aid of an easy score off a turnover, but I think it will be a contest for three quarters.

Thanks for giving your take on your team.  I always appreciate that.

  3. https://nebraska.rivals.com/news/blades-breaks-silence-will-attend-arizona-western-in-2017

This may have been discussed previously, but did we have a huge miss in not 'protecting' him while he was at JUCO?

    From the article:

What’s interesting is Minnick said he didn’t have any contact with the Husker coaching staff about possibly placing Blades at Arizona Western.

Blades and his camp initiated the contact on their end, which means he will not be a recruit Arizona Western protects and sends back to Lincoln in two years.

If Nebraska would’ve placed him here, he’d be protected,” Minnick said. “But Nebraska didn’t place him here, so he could go anywhere he wants.

“If Nebraska would’ve called and said, ‘hey we want to send this kid here and get him back,’ it would be a different story. They didn’t call me about him. We recruited him, so he could go wherever he wants to go.”

Last year Arizona Western had 27 players going Division I, and this year they already have 14 with early Division I offers according to Minnick.

As I understand the media coverage, Blades backed away from his commitment and interest in Nebraska even before it was certain he would not qualify academically. He flat out said there was almost no chance he would end up at Nebraska. I thin he and Nebraska have parted ways, which is why there was no attempt to "protect" him at the JUCO.

  4.

What recruits did we take from their state? The only one just decomitted.

Oh, you know Goodrich this year and McQuitty, from Columbia, last year. Wilson & Bryant the previous years.

It isn't just a one-year thing, there has been frustration of the Mizzou fan base for a couple years now.

With regards to this year, they get pissed any time the "Missouri 10" as they like to call them have the Huskers in their top 3/5/10 and Mizzou doesn't make the cut.

+ Davs twins the year before.

  5.

We had this conversation when Randy Gregory got busted.

We had this conversation when Stanley Morgan, Jr. got busted.

We'll have this same conversation when the next player gets busted.

Same people making the same arguments, some guys coming out of the woodwork to take potshots at our players, all of it's the same.

Since we're dancing this same dance, again, I'll put my money in the juke box and play a song, too:

    Pot should be legal.

Pot is not currently legal (most places).

    So don't smoke pot.

Well, pot should not be legal.

Pot is not currently legal (most places).

    So don't smoke pot.

You follow all laws? Always drive the speed limitn; never have a beer at a tailgate; don't jaywalk?

  6. Something smells funny, here. Almost has to have been our idea. Wonder what that means for tomorrow.

This. I think it was our idea. He had a tweet complaining that fans and reporters complain about loyalty, but "they don't know the half of it." That seems to suggest that not coming to Nebraska is at least not entirely his idea. But who knows, the kid is all over the place, so it is hard to ascribe any logic to what he does...

  7. No chance that Keith Williams is leaving. He's got a criminal court date here in February. Doubt he takes another job and ignores his court case so they can issue a warrant for his arrest. Furthermore, the likely result of his court case is that he is going to be put on probation, in the State of Nebraska, for three or more years. You can apply to have your probation transferred to another state, but it generally you have to serve some of the probation successfully before that would even be considered.

In the grand scheme of Tommy Armstrong's development and career as a Nebraska quarterback, I think we can safely say Brett Farve's influence (whatever that may be) was minimal in comparison to the coaching he received.

I'll admit it's funny to poke fun at Favre's successes and failures throwing some ridiculous passes in his career, but there's one big thing Favre did pretty well that Armstrong didn't - check down.

Yep. Favre has the strong arm and tons of incredible throw only he could make and too many throws he never should have made, but he also did the quickest checkdowns in the NFL. Thousand of Favre's career yards were short checkdowns. If the play wasn't breaking the way he wanted, he had no problem take the 5 yard gain to the wide open RB in the flat. Always wished Tommy would have done the same.

Lol. Sam Keller did that and was crucified by this fan base.

    Unbelievable.

Really? Asking honestly. I was maybe 16-17 at the time and didn't follow the program very closely, but was he really "crucified" by Husker fans for checking down to other passing options?

No, not really. That's revisionist history.

  9. This is a very confusing statement. He just now realizes Florida is nowhere close to Nebraska? He wasn't offered by any of the Big 3 in Florida. So unless he attends USF or UCF, his family is going to have to travel quite a ways no matter where he plays. Choosing Michigan wouldn't make any sense unless the distance excuse was just a cover for something else.

Yeah, there is something else going on here. Not sure what or on which side, but "far from home" doesn't explain it.

  10. Set to visit Louisville Jan. 13 and Nebraska on Jan 20.

If he is visiting Louisville in January this says something considering Riley's new rule this year that commits can't visit other schools during the month of January. I guess that either means he doesn't intend to sign with Nebraska or the coaches have told him that he doesn't have a guaranteed spot and that's why he is looking around but keeping Nebraska in the picture.

  11.

    Wait...where is Michigan State?

They are a recent phenom, and were very mediocre before Dantonio resurrected them. 9-3 was a huge season for them before he came along.

Mediocre? They were garbage for 50 years before Dantonio with the notable exception of the one year Saban did well with them and he parlayed that into the LSU job.

  12. Post-game presser: Riley says not playing today doesn't at all mean Tommy is ready for Iowa.

FWIW, I know a manager on the team... he said Tommy is done for the season, and they don't want to say it.

But who knows his fish aquarium guy?
  13.

Farmer was a top 100 player (#4 guard) and a 4* per your link.

    Thanks for posting that support.

Foster had offers from Florida, Georgia, UCLA and others despite being from Nebraska and showing desire to attend Nebraska from an early date.

Again, thanks for supporting my post.

It didn't support your post one bit. Farmer might have been a top 100 player by the end of the year but he wasn't heavily recruited.

Having offers from Florida, Georgia and UCLA doesn't exactly scream highly recruited either.

Gates is the only one that we can say was highly recruited and from some top teams.

Knevel had an offer from Bama and that about sums it up. He did have one from Wisconsin which holds a little weight IMO when it comes to Oline.

It's shocking, sad and humorous how some "fans" will bend over backwards to down our players.

    You really are something else.

Where in my statements have I "downed" our players?

    Don't feed the troll
