  1. Just to be clear...

Just because I am not happy with the current progress, or lack thereof, doesn't necessarily mean I want a major change or Bo's head on a platter. I just want people, Bo included, to realize and question how we are doing everything. Why do the turnovers continue to plague us, why can't we be halfway decent on ST, why do tight games turn into blowout losses more times than not, why are we 5th-7th in B1G recruiting year in, year out, why do we have one of the least experienced staffs in America, what is our identity???

I want little things that are holding us back to be changed. We aren't terribly far from relevant, we proved that against Texas, Oklahoma, etc...BUT things need to be explored and changed, processes examined, challenged and changed!

  2. The people inside the program are striving for better, but I'm not sure most on the outside aren't content with where we are. I still can't believe people are thinking anything has changed. We just went 8-4 with 3 blowout losses AT HOME and also lost to Minnesota.....everyone feels so great that we beat an average Georgia team (myself included) but you can't stand up and argue that there is any sign things are looking up!

  3. Knapp,

No need to get so butt hurt. I'm not going to root for anyone but the Huskers, whether we win 3 or 13 .

I never said 9 wins a year is meaningless, but I would like to think our program should strive for better results. Calling that "childish entitlement crap" is laughable. I also never threw an "anti-nine win bitchfest".

My argument here starts and ends with the National Title and 2 SEC Championships.

  4. Mr. Accountability, I don't think you'll find an argument from anyone here that we don't want to be Auburn. The question was about trading the end result and this hypothetical is only about one thing: RESULTS. I can't fathom a world, in which we as Huskers fans, wouldn't take a title, a runner-up, two mediocre years and two duds over 10-4/9-5 every year with NO signature wins and blowout losses?

  5. I am not worried about a dynamic returner at this point. Put a guy back there that will catch the damn ball. I think Marlowe would be a good candidate, he has been solid although not spectacular in the return game in his career.

If we had the 2009 D, I would lean that way, but we need game-changers to help flip the field and take some pressure off the O! We seem to always have horrendous starting field position...wish I could find stats to back it up...

  6. I am probably one of the biggest fans of Abdullah out there and love his game-changing ability, but with Rex's knee and lack of experience behind Ameer, can we please stop putting him back as a returner!

Let's get one of our talented WRs back there and let them get an extra 3-5 touches per week.

    What do you guys think???

  7. I hope he leaves, just for you guys pissing and moaning. I hope he says F*** this state. I love Bo and i think he is and will be a great coach, but I really do hope he up and leaves and is successfull in the NFL. He has to be sick of our fans having unreasonable expectations. Everyone thinks we are Texas Michigan Ohio State Alabama Florida.....WE ARE NOT. We are in a terrible location with NO TALENT in our state. Look at all the teams that are historicly good.....teams in recruiting hot beds. Bo needs time, getting a few "diamonds in the rough" every recruiting class to build a good team. We cant get it all with one recruiting class we are not texas, and never will be. We are located in bum f*** no where. Look what happens when recruits get offered by their home state....they decommit. Its extrememly hard to get the talent we need. And anyone without there head up there a$$ can see that.

I bet Bo and Co work TWICE as hard spend TWICE as much time on the road then almost any other team. We have NO TALENT in NE and hardly any in surrounding states. It has to be extremely frustrating for him to be gone from his family recruiting for so long only to come back and have little to no support from his "fans". I really dont know how he can take it for much longer and if i were him i would be looking for any excuse to GTFO of here.

No coach worth a chit is going to come here for unreasonable expectations that you all have and a place that is historically very hard to recruit to. Pull your heads out of your asses.

Well thats a nice way to address the majority of the people on here who are concerned with the direction of the program. Also, it seems to me that the vast majority of that majority are still very much behind Bo. Thinking they work twice as hard as other staff is just plain naive or delusional, or the ultimate in the rose colored glasses theory. He might be a great coach someday, but if you think he's a great coach RIGHT NOW, then you are the one who needs to pull something out of something. There is an abundance of work to be done. If he's a great coach now, he should be able to win with the talentless group of players he is forced to work with.

Yes, our expectations are high, we don't have another major college team or a pro team to pull for so our emotional investment is high, just like it's been for the last 30 or 40 years (or longer, don't remember past then). Those expecations are always going to be high, but most are satisified or placated if our team and coach at least put up a reasonable, competetive effort on the field, and do with a modicum of class.

I'll be the first to admit, persoanlly, I don't think he's every going to develope into the type of coach we are looking for, but I also realize it takes time to build a program, but anyone who knows anything about the game knows that this program has boatloads of work ahead of it and if he does get it turned around, I'll be the first to step up admit I was wrong.

And I can think of at least 3 million reasons why a coach "worth a chit" might come here.

Ya ur right its mostly addressed to the few on here that are anti Bo reguradless of what he does. And yes i do think him and his staff spend alot more time on the road then most. Texas, Florida ,Ohio State, barely have to leave thier back yard. We are constantly in New Jersey (this year) Texas, California, Florida. We dont have the convience of driving a few hours to visit prospects. Our coaches are all over the country, and i wish people would realize that when they are arent coaching games they are immediately out recruting. After the Iowa game Bo was gone the whole next week recruiting, then back to watch game film of USC and coaching practice, jump to Florida for a visit, back to practice, up to new jersey. Sure he gets paid good, but he could get paid just as good somewhere else and it would require alot less effort recruiting if he were at say...Florida. He is busting is ass recruting, just because its guys dont pick us in the end doesnt mean they arent trying, its just damn hard to pull guys away from home to come to the middle of no where.

Yes our guys have to travel farther, but it doens't require any less effort to recruit in the talent "hotbeds", those coaches still have to work their asses off to land players. All the coaches are out recruiting after their last regular game. To think that our staff is working harder than anyone elses just doens't make sense. Is it difficult to land premier players to come here to Nebraska, absolutely, I don't think anyone would ever argue that. It just means that you have to really develope those players that you do get.

And quite frankly, right now, talent isn't the biggest issue we need to address. I think if you read through a lot of the posts most agree that we have enough talent to compete with most teams on the college scene. Lets face it, we were the much better team in the first half of the bowl game before we fell apart. Yes, you have to have good talent, but you also have to develope that talent so that it produces on the field. I think right now that developement along with in game management skill are what are being questioned about Bo.

I agree with most of the post about fighting an uphill battle in recruiting BUT my main problem with MOST the Pelini apologists are as follows:

    - Since Billy C left, where are all of the All-Conference or better performers that Bo and staff have brought in and developed?

    - Why are you ignoring the fact we keep getting headboarded by superior teams and aren't even competitive for 4 quarters in most big games?

    - What has Bo done to prove he has grown as a HC? (I actually prefer the "Blow your Load Bo" version over this "fake Bo" that most have required him...we knew we were getting a hot head when we hired him)

I have plenty more points but would like at least some clarity on those before heading into others....

  8. IMO this is a bad idea.

What you are effectively doing is making it more difficult to schedule OOC games against Big Name non Pac 12 BCS teams as you're already locked into an OOC away game each other year. Which will have a negative effect on recruiting the south and south east regions for the conference.

Plus the Big Ten is already regarded as too much of a mid-west centric conference why make that stereotype even more engrained? - Expecially if it makes it tougher for certain teams to continue playing other traditional OOC opponents, IE Notre Dame, Pitt etc.

Also probably inflames the whole Penn State resentments of not being Eastern leaning enough.

Not to mention the timezone issues and the fact that noone cares about Pac 12 football outside of the Pac 12 aside from the Rose Bowl game.

FAR too many negatives and not anywhere near enough positives IMO. If Big Ten teams want to schedule series with Pac 12 teams they can do that without the league mandating they do it.

    AGREED!

I like the idea of having a "partnership" but why not do it with the big dogs in the SEC...

I think the B1G/PAC-12 arrangement is fatally flawed! If no one is watching PAC-12 football now, why would we want to boost their ratings..........

    OH YEAH......FOX SPORTS!!!

This is so easy to see through it is laughable!!! FOX has dictated to us and the PAC-12 that they want us to have "national" appeal and pull viewers away from the SEC driven ESPN machine!

We have now joined the arms race against ESPN/SEC and we're light years behind!!!

  9. I would have to give the 10 and take Wisconsin...I just don't think we keep it within 2 scores the way Martinez handles the option, pressure and ball handling...PLUS our D is not up to our normal standards. Youth and new system (more base 4-3) have combined for some colossal missed assignments.

With that said, the Husker die hard in me would definitely love to find some ML action to hedge my bet!!!! I'm hoping Martinez can right his ship and grow as QB in a very hostile environment in primetime!!!

    GO BIG RED!!!

    38-24 Wisconsin

  10. I thought the kick was good...BUT that's because I thought you automatically got the benefit of the doubt when you kick a 50 yarder OVER the uprights!!!

I think the ball clearly was not ALL inside the upright, therefore the call was right....TECHNICALLY! But I think football needs to look at adding a few unwritten rules, like in baseball....

"Unwritten" Rule #1: If you kick a ball OVER the upright and it isn't clearly wide, it is GOOD! Call this the Maher Effect!

  11. I have us losing to Wisconsin, Ohio State and Michigan...

Until Bo proves he has a sense for managing/motivating the offense, I don't see us doing much better than 9-3 or 10-2. I'll take that this year, but sooner or later he needs to become a better CEO.

I hope I am way off base, I would love to go to New Orleans and kick OU's ass!!! Or whichever SEC team gets ushered in...

As a consolation, I would love to pummel Boise in the Rose Bowl!!!

  12. I live in Austin, TX and can't stand UT!!! But one thing I will tell you is the harsh generalizations that are being tossed around here are a bit extreme. Just because you have met a couple of A-Holes doesn't mean the whole state is that way. I remember all of the attacks on A&M after last year's loss and can tell you it was scary that most of the attacks could have been used against us. Most of Texas is filled with hard working, small town, country folk, much like the great state of Nebraska....

With that said, I hate Texas because they kicked our arses 9 out of 10 games, and many were gut punch losses! PLAIN AND SIMPLE, I HATE LOSING!!!

I actually think it was good for the league to be centralized in Dallas. If you knew much about Texas, you'd realize that the metroplex is filled with millions of fans of teams not named the Longhorns!!! It is a huge media market with a rabid and diverse college fanbase, mild climate and hundreds of D-I football recruits on a yearly basis! I can promise you that if we stuck it out in the Big XII and won a couple of CCG, we would have grown our fanbase to levels we have never seen! Not to mention the recruiting benefits from playing and winning in Jerry's Palace on a yearly basis.

Texas caught us while we were down and we just couldn't find a way to finish against them...

Let's not get caught up in generalizations and stooping to their level, we hate them for 1-9....

  13. If LSU comes knocking, Bo is outta here!

    What do we do next???

Why would he, just cause it's LSU?

Essentially he's going to be going to the same team in a differnt conference. Probably a better recruiting potential, but yeah, it'll be a good team, with a questionable offense.

This small pond approach isn't working out too well for us guys...

I guess you forgot to hit the "Enter Sarcasm Here" emoticon or you don't get out much...

LSU can recruit twice as many NFL level talents on a tank of gas than we could ever in a whole recruiting season! Better weather, more money, SEC, you name it! And if I remember correctly, LSU had only 2 losses this year, one of which was to the National Champion! They also dismantled a team that(with the help of the refs) beat us!

I am just as big of a Husker fan as the next poster, but please wake up and look around...it's easier to win at LSU!!!

  14. Turner Gill would be the leading candidate, IMO.

I was told that he would not make Osborne's short list.

really? people have inside sources for a job search that doesn't even exist?

WOW! If you think ADs don't always have a "short list", you must not understand the process very well. There are calls made and "feelers" thrown out at the very hint of a departure.

BTW, IF Turner is on the list, we are in trouble! I don't know about you, but I would never play for a coach that came up with some of the rules he has at KU....

  15. Now that it looks like Lucky Les is headed to Michigan and Bo is potentially headed back to LSU, what are everyone's thoughts???

Especially if part of his decision to leave is because he lacked control over personnel decisions...

I would love for Bo to stay and a new OC found immediately, but if Bo does leave, I feel strongly like Dr Tom should not be given final say in the next HC...

  16. I don't know much about it, but Gruden touched on how complex it was - 350 plays, even the linemen had play cards on their wrist bands. Is Harbaugh an offensive guy? I can't remember. Well, whoever has put that system in place - they have really done their work and a good job of it, too.

(edit) Now they are just showing off, as the announcers noted. Haha. Anyone else catch that? 7 minute mark. How many shifts was that before the snap? Not much of a result either.

(edit 2) Tyrod is all class, by the way. Making his way across the field, congratulating Coach Harbaugh after the game. Battling out even at the end when it was all over. Can't give him enough respect IMO.

Yes, Harbaugh is an offensive guy. Just look at his resume on wikipedia...

As far as the "complexity" of the offense...it's the exact opposite of Callahan's complexities. Stanford runs about 6 or 7 plays from about 20 different looks! Callahan tried to have 30 plays in each of his 30 to 40 sets. They do a tremendous job of using extra TE sets, overloaded sets, off balance sets, etc. All of which would work well with the type of kid we can recruit. We will always be able to find quality TEs and OL and need to build around that.

If you watch their passing game plays, they do alot of "forcing" or "driving" towards the safeties to run them off the primary WR. The last TD pass was a perfect example of that, on both safeties!
