  1. first of all, let me say that I am a UT Grad and a diehard UT fan, so having said that...Hook Em Horns...

but I wish yall the best of luck on Saturday and as yall probably already know, there are a large number of people in the DFW are that are cheering for yall to pull the upset (TCU fans)...

anyway, i posted this on ShaggyBevo.com (probably the best longhorns forum...be advised though, the forum is known for, as well call it, "buncha a$$hole$ on this site"). I thought id share some tips about parking and about where to watch the SEC CG (If you care to watch it)...

    Parking:

I plan on parking in Lincoln Square. Lincoln Square is located at the corner of Collins and Road To Six Flags. If you park there, and spend $40 at one or any combination of the stores in Lincoln Square, you are good to go...just put the receipt on the dash of your car...

here is a map of Lincoln Square and all of the stores there...

    large-map.jpg

Six Flags is also open on Saturday from 2 pm - 10 pm...I have parked there many times for Rangers games and never had any issues, but I do not know what their policy is for parking for events at the Cowboys Stadium...at last check parking costs $15. Id call ahead first though to be sure there is not a problem with parking there for the game...

As far as bars for the SEC CG...

Sherlock's is located in Lincoln Square and its a decent bar with some tv's

There is a TGIF at the SW corner of Collins & Copeland (access road to I-30)

There is a Chili's at the SE corner of Collins & Copeland

There is a Hooter's on the East side of Collins between Copeland and Road To Six Flags

There is a Black Eyed Pea at the NW corner of Collins and Road To Six Flags

There is a Colter's at the SW corner of Collins and Road To Six Flags

There is a Buffalo Wild Wings on the East Side of Collins south of Road To Six Flags

There is a Cici's Pizza on the west side of Collins right across the street from the Cowboys Stadium

There is a Star Sports Bar & Grill on the west side of Collins right across the street from the Cowboys Stadium

On the east side of the stadium, there is a Humperdink's at the NE corner of Six Flags Dr. & Road To Six Flags

There is a Texas Land & Cattle & a On The Border at the corner of Copeland & Ballpark Way

There is a Joe's Crab Shack at the corner of Copeland and Nolan Ryan Expressway

If you have any other questions about the Arlington area, feel free to ask...ive lived here for 14 years now (moving though in about a month)...for those of you coming from Nebraska, hope you have a safe trip and enjoy your time in "God's Country"

  2. I see them with potentially two losses rolling into the Nebraska game. No NC shot--no fans.

I really don't see us having 2 losses going into that game...have you looked at UT's schedule next year?

    vs. Arkie St. Easy Win

    vs. TCU Easy Loss

    @ Central Florida Easy Win

    vs. Rice Easy Win

vs. Kansas St. Pretty much a toss up

Oklahoma Texas still has one of the worst secondaries in the Big XII, and Oklahoma returns some of the best wide receivers this side of Nebraska. Texas loses, and their subsequent riots save the Dallas City Council millions as the toilet known as the Cotton Bowl is ripped to shreds.

    @ Iowa St. Easy Win

    @ Baylor Easy Win

vs. Nebraska so I see us coming into this game at 8-0.

I think Texas loses 3-4 game in the regular season. To either Nebraska or to A&M at Kyle field...

Fixed for 'ya. Ya'll are welcome. :w00t

    1) explain to me exactly how you see TCU as an "easy loss." They have a good defense, I'll give ya that, but their offense sucks. I know a lot about TCU's program, I live 15 minutes away from TCU and work about 2 min away from there and I pay attention to their program.

    2) we have a new DC to fix our secondary problems. Its not talent (2 straight Thorpe Award Winners) it's coaching.

    3) KSU at home wont be a toss up...revenge will be on the minds of every player out there. especially Colt.

    4) We held Oklahoma and their "best wide receivers this side of Nebraska" to 10 points last year. They will also have a new QB.

  3. I see them with potentially two losses rolling into the Nebraska game. No NC shot--no fans.

I really don't see us having 2 losses going into that game...have you looked at UT's schedule next year?

    vs. Arkie St. Easy Win

    vs. TCU Easy Win

    @ Central Florida Easy Win

    vs. Rice Easy Win

vs. Kansas St. Win but close, this will be a revenge game from last year's loss

Oklahoma OU will be breaking in a new QB and is without Peterson, plus their incoming class is not what is has been in the past...so i say we win this game.

    @ Iowa St. Easy Win

    @ Baylor Easy Win

vs. Nebraska so I see us coming into this game at 8-0.

I think Texas loses 1 game in the regular season. To either Nebraska or to A&M at Kyle field...

  4. Please beat the crap outta the Aggies...I know its asking a lot but still...I was at the Texas-Texas A&M game sitting in the Aggie Student section and got called everything from **** to motherf***er...of course I was wearing burnt orange...might have had something to do with that...

  5. Nebraska vs. Texas, Austin, Texas. 2007. i wanna go very badly.

I have been to the last 2 Texas - Nebraska games and will probably attend this years as well. Of course its not really a road game for me as Austin is only 3 hours away from where I live and I make the trip all the time...And I am a Longhorn fan so I will be cheering for the Horns...no offense of course...

  6. I hope Boise rips them a new a-hole...I cant stand the sooners and this would be beautiful...I would go buy myself a Boise hat and wear it around the DFW area (lots of sooner fans here)

  7. For those occassonal Texas fans on the board....congrats. Great win for the Big XII!!!!!!

Thanks...i was hoping we would beat them by more than 2 points...also looks bad that 2 of the 3 teams we lost to, lost their bowl games by 27 and 35 (K. St. and A&M)...the thing i cared more about than winning was Colt McCoy's health and he looked great. If he wasent ok and didn't recover by next year (which is always a possibility with an injury like his) than we would have to choose between a redshirt freshman and 2 true freshman for QB next year...

  8. Once agian, thanks hook em !!!! We will make sure to leave early enough.... we may even take the DART if that makes more sense for us. Surely we can get on that somewhere near Love Field.

The Dart is the easiest option...im going to be going with 4 people though and i already have a parking pass...so money speaking it makes sense to park at the stadium...

  9. Anyone who has been to the Cotton Bowl before, please help.

We are staying at a Hotel near Love Field.... just wondering how difficult it is going to be to get to State Fair Park on game day..... Just needing to have an idea of what time to leave Hotel in order to be in our seats by 9:30 am.

If anyone can offer an idea, I appreciate it !!!

    Thanks and Go Big Red

you will hit traffic once you get to downtown. I would try and leave at about 7:30 to 8:00 to make sure you get there on time. I am coming from SW Arlington and I am leaving at 7:00 am...

  10. This is probably for the members from Texas or if anyone has gone to the Cotton Bowl before...

Do you need a parking pass, or is it highly suggested to pick one up. I live an hour from Lincoln, so if anyone says that I should get one, I will find time to drive over and pick one up.

    Thanks for your help.

What about tailgating in the lots..... People (security) pretty cool, or are they pretty strict?

If you do not have a parking pass, DO NOT i repeat DO NOT park in neighborhood owned lots or yards. The Fair Park part of Dallas is not what you would call a nice side of town (putting it very very nicely). I have never actually tailgated at the Cotton Bowl but they let you do it for Texas-OU so im sure they let you do it for the Cotton Bowl as well. If you want an easy cheap way to get to the game, take the DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) Shuttle to the game. I have done it before and it worked out well.

  11. If you really want good mexican food try a place called La Familia's just west of Downtown Ft. Worth. Their spicy chicken fajitas are amazing. Their salsa and chips are phenomenal as well and everything is made in house. You can usually get out of there under $10-15 bucks a person to. It is family owned and operated. The only thing is they are closed on Sundays. I have been there many many times and never had a bad experience.

    Map to it here: http://tinyurl.com/tdqyv

  12. Dallas is just a dump. I was going to Arizona if we won , or would have considered San Diego for the Holliday Bowl , but Dallas is a pit.

Dallas isn't a dump...yes the stadium is but not the city of Dallas. I have lived in the DFW metroplex all but 3 years of my life (I'm 22) and would not want to live anywhere else. And no its not because I haven't been anywhere. I have traveled most of the US and some of Europe and still would stay right where I am right now. And I will be at this game, only because the tickets are so cheap, cheering for Nebraska...

  13. kind of a paradox if you ask me, as proud of Texas, as Texans are and then hold this game in a rat hole of a stadium, is pure contradiction as far as i am concerned, pretty embarassing as far as fan accomodating

Well the city council of the city of Dallas and madam no (mayor Laura Miller) have made it difficult to do anything recently. They turned down the Dallas Cowboys so the 'boys are moving to Arlington. They did approve the plan to improve the stadium, but that still might not save the Cotton Bowl's stay at Fair Park as the Cowboys new 1 Billion Dollar Stadium opens in 2009. Stuff about their new stadium can be seen here: http://stadium.dallascowboys.com/

It is located in the heart of the metroplex close to the highway interchange of I-30 and Highway 360. It is down the street from Ameriquest Field in Arlington, home of the Texas Rangers. It is also in close proximity to Six Flags over Texas and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor. The thought is that once that stadium opens, the Texas-OU game will move there (contract with the Cotton Bowl goes through '10) and there is also talk that the Cotton Bowl game could move there as well. Other possible sporting events that could be held there include; the Super Bowl, NCAA Final Four, and the NBA All-Star game...

  14. stubhub.com has $90 face value tickets for $12 upper level and $25 lower level...I guess this isnt to appealing to many fans of either team to attend. I know it isn't to me... Driving to Dallas to go to a rundown stadium in a rundown town for a game at 10:45, no thanks.

I got 4 tickets and a parking pass on ebay for $36...

  15. A bunch of us are heading to Dallas on Saturday. There seem to be tons of good tickets still available, so come on FANS - let's pack that place in RED!

Hope to see a ton of you guys down there. Does anyone that is going down for the game know of any good New Year's Eve Events to check out in Dallas on Sunday night?

Can any Texas or A&M fans on here suggest anything? THANKS!

Dallas Stars game Sunday night at the American Airlines Center...thats were I will be anyway...other than that there is a countdown somewhere in downtown Dallas...haven't actually been myself but i have heard its ok...

  16. Thanks for the support Hookem - will be good to see 'Horns & 'Aggies at the game pulling for Nebraksa (the Big 12).

Our group will be arriving in Dallas on Saturday early afternoon (coming from Kansas City). Any suggestions on a good "Texas" Sports Bar to watch the 'Horns demolish the Hawkeyes? We want to wear our RED and go cheer for the Big 12 at a big Texas Fan Bar. Any and all sugestions are welcomed - Thanks!

PS. Will you guys actually chant "GO BIG RED", or will it be "GO BIG TWELVE"? HA

  17. Dump of a Stadium Awaits Husker Fans

    BY LEE BARFKNECHT

    WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

The Cotton Bowl stadium in Dallas looks much the same as when Texas lost to Oklahoma 45-0 during the 1956 regular season.

The Cotton Bowl stadium - where the University of Nebraska will play football Monday against Auburn University - is big at 76,000 seats, but it wins no honors for fan-friendly amenities.

The art deco structure, built in 1930 on the state fairgrounds just east of downtown Dallas, was cited in 2003 for 10 "identified deficiencies" in a Fair Park Corp. Development plan.

    Among the criticisms:

Undersize concourses that cause gridlock; restroom numbers significantly below standards; inadequate concession areas, sound system and scoreboard; and seats installed in 1968 that are "at the end of their useful life."

Dallas Morning News columnist Kevin Sherrington, in 2005, summed up the place this way:

"The Cotton Bowl is a dump. A decaying canyon of concrete, it doesn't need bricks and mortar as much as a couple of mortar shells.

"Concourses are too narrow, stench too wide. Can't hardly swing a dead rat without hitting a woman waiting in a restroom line. And before you get up from your seat, you've first got to get your knees surgically removed from the guy in front of you."

Fans of the Cotton Bowl were heartened last month when Dallas voters approved a $30 million bond issue for stadium improvements, including expansion to 92,000 seats. The State Fair is going to chip in an additional $20 million.

Fans attending next week's Cotton Bowl will be disappointed to learn that no creature-comfort improvements will begin until spring 2007.

The most noticeable upgrade since the Fair Park report three years ago is a new video replay board.

Kevin Lippman is a Dallas attorney and the president of that city's University of Texas Exes alumni group. Since 1990, he has regularly attended the Texas-Oklahoma game, played annually at the Cotton Bowl, and he occasionally has gone to the Cotton Bowl game.

Asked to give Husker fans, who haven't been to the Cotton Bowl in 27 years, a scouting report on the game-day experience, Lippman said:

"Given today's luxury-style stadiums, you've just got to put that out of your mind. You're not going to have that experience at the Cotton Bowl. It's not a comfortable place."

Still, if football is your passion, the Cotton Bowl offers some rewards.

"To me, it's the old traditional football stadium," Lippman said. "It's for watching the game.

"The sight lines are good throughout the stadium. And the seats are relatively close to the field. That helps generate a lot of excitement in the stadium."

Cotton Bowl President Rick Baker said he was pleased that Dallas voters approved the stadium improvement bond issue.

Yet the promise of $50 million in upgrades doesn't mean that the Cotton Bowl game will continue to be played at the Cotton Bowl stadium.

Baker said his bowl is involved in a yearlong strategic planning study. A third party was hired to interview more than 100 of what Baker described as "influential people in the college football industry."

Among the review issues is whether the Cotton Bowl game stays at Fair Park - a stark and empty place on Jan. 1 - or moves to the suburb of Arlington into the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium, scheduled for completion in 2009.

Said Baker: "That's the key issue for us in terms of our future."

Stephen Jones, son of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and the team's chief operating officer, is on the Cotton Bowl board of directors. Baker said Cotton Bowl representatives have met with the Cowboys, as well as with Dallas city leaders.

"When you are playing in your namesake stadium and you've played in it for 70 years, we don't take that lightly," Baker said. "People have told us that because the new place will be shiny and NFL quality, that it's a no-brainer to move to Arlington."

Yet if the Cotton Bowl had wanted an NFL-quality stadium with suites, Baker said, the bowl could have moved to Texas Stadium - the Cowboys' current home - 20 years ago.

"So we want to make sure we're doing all the right things for all the right reasons," he said. "And we're going to take our time."

Dallas bought a little more time with Texas and Oklahoma when, in May, those two schools agreed to keep playing their series at the Cotton Bowl through 2010.

Texas Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds and Oklahoma A.D. Joe Castiglione declined to comment on the stadium's condition and the home of their series beyond 2010.

The issue has become so "hot and political" that public comment has proven counterproductive, said a school official. Neither school wants to appear to be holding Dallas taxpayers hostage to vote for improvements, insiders say, when neither can guarantee that stadium renovation will keep the game in Dallas.

The Texas-Oklahoma game, held at the same time that a quarter-million people are attending the Texas State Fair, can be a breathtaking experience. Ferris wheels, corny dog stands and live music performances are literally just 50 steps away from the Cotton Bowl entrance.

Last year, two Oklahoma student government bodies pushed a resolution calling for OU students to band with Texas students to try to keep the game at the Cotton Bowl.

Despite the stadium's "shabby conditions and lack of seating," the resolution said, "it would be a tragedy for the two schools to lose the experience of OU/Texas at the Cotton Bowl."

Lippman, the Dallas attorney, said his Texas alumni group is working toward a similar goal.

"The vast majority of Texas Exes we talk to," he said, "want it to stay at the Cotton Bowl."

Would Texas and Oklahoma consider moving their game to the Cowboys' new stadium?

"From what we've heard from DeLoss Dodds, they would not take Texas-OU to Arlington," Lippman said. "It looks like it would either stay at the Cotton Bowl or go home and home."

as sad as this is...it is true. The Cotton Bowl is a dump...take it from someone who has been there...

  18. I don't know how it is in Arlington, but I'll tell you how it is around here in Omaha. In the mid to late 90s, everybody was a husker fan during football season and a Kansas Jayhawk fan during basketball season. Now since the Qwest center, it's NU football during football and Creighton during basketball season. Not all people are like that, but for a lot......"PICK A SIDE AND STAY THERE!!!!".

Its not really like that here. But we have our own issues here. For those that dont know, Arlington is right between Ft. Worth and Dallas and is the future home of the Dallas Cowboys. So there are many TCU fans here with them being located in Ft. Worth. There are also a ton of Baylor, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Texas and BlowU fans here. If you were to go to a sporting goods store you would see mainly Tech, A&M, Texas, BlowU, and TCU...so we have a lot of different fans here, which make the Texas-OU rivalry awesome because the game is played in Dallas. There are talks going on right now to have Tech-A&M played at the Cotton Bowl as well.

For the most part people stick to their teams. TCU fans and Baylor fans probably cheer for another school simply because they dont really compete in anything, with the exception of TCU football. Texas, Tech, A&M, and BlowU fans will never cheer for another one of those schools unless that win helps them or in bowl season for college football. However if Saddam Hussein put together a football team and played BlowU...hmm...i would pray for a meteorite to hit the stadium...

If you put it in order of the number of fans here i would say:

    #1 Texas (a bunch of t-shirt fans)

    #2 BlowU (same)

    #3 A&M

    #4 Tech

    #5 TCU

    #6 Baylor

    #7 LSU

  19. I guess I will never understand rooting for a team that is one of our opponents. I don't believe in rooting for them just because we are in the same conference. <_<

I rooted for Texas once and that was in the Rose Bowl last year because I didn't want USC to have an argument that they were the best dynasties of all-time.

I can respect that for the same reason I respect those that do cheer for other teams. I personally like to pick a team to root for when i watch a game or go to a game. Gives me a little more personal interest in the game. And when it comes to Nebraska and Auburn, the easy choice is Nebraska because they are in the Big 12...But I do understand where you are coming from.

I am also cheering for the Aggies because they are playing a bunch of hippies (although the 2nd string running back for Cal went to my high school)

Even though they are in the Big 12 i hope the Smurf Broncos rip a new one in Oklahoma (not likely but hey what can ya do)
