I forsee a changing of the guard in the receiver core. The young guys all seem way too talented to keep off the field. Holt, Brooks, Paul and Henry all seem like they could be pretty exciting players. The veterans like Swift and Peterson will still get their catches, but we know what we can expect from them. I am more excited to see what the young guys are capable of.

  2. Other boards are saying that NU hasn't extended an offer to Youboty. And that he very much liked his Louisville visit. So I expect that he's headed elsewhere.

Perhaps we only had a spot or 2 D lineman, and he needed to commit last weekend if he wanted to come to NU?

Is Bo purposely taking a smaller class this year so he'll have some extra for next year for JC transfers and early enrollees?

I was always under the impression that there was a set number of scholarships available per year, and that it didn't matter if you had roll-over from the year before. I could be wrong though.

No. You have a certain number of scholarships that you can use total. Most programs try to use about 25 a year so that they will never have huge classes of important players all leaving at once. If you use 28 this year, you may only use 22 next year...for example

  3. Compton's mother just confirmed that Compton is still commited to Nebraska

Where did you hear that from?!?!?! Please don't be getting my hopes up!

    Rivals

By the way, on 1620 the zone they said that Compton talked to Papuchis and he cleared everything up

ACTUALLY he said that he talked to coach Ekeler and told him that everything was bogus.

He never called the nebraska staff and decommitted.

He will not be speaking to any media members until his visit.

He is quite frustrated with the whole recruiting process.

  4. Nebraska would MOST DEFINITELY NOT be where KU is...even if our schedule was as easy as theirs

KU has absolutely dominated every below par team they have played. Let's not forget, they spanked (I know it was only 8 points, but if you watched the game, you know it was NEVER EVEN CLOSE) A&M at Kyle Field. This was THE WEEK AFTER THEY KILLED US IN MEMORIAL STADIUM.

I don't mean to be rude, but this type of thinking doesn't make sense. Your main argument in this sentence is that since KU "spanked" A&M by...........8 points, then KU must be a good team. You also add more evidence of KU being good by saying that since A&M beat NU at Memorial Stadium, this makes KU a better team. What!? In order for this argument to hold any water, NU would have to be a great team with a great W-L record...NU has neither of these. Following your logic, since A&M beat NU, and KU beat A&M, then this means we need to respect KU........ I wish I knew what you were smoking, because I would like some...

Listen, I am not trying to say they are national championship contenders, or even BCS.....because i don't know that they are......

HOWEVER, I am tired of people not respecting Kansas. What else do you want them to do? THey have won every game they have played....fairly easily as well

I want them to beat a good team. Sure they faced three okay teams...but they barely won those games. These games were all close; they could have gone either way. One interception from the opposing team and KU may not be undefeated this year still.

Let's give the Hawks some credit. They are a hell of a lot better than we are!

I will give them credit when they do something significant. And saying they are better than us isn't saying much at all. I'm pretty sure Baylor could beat our asses, should we respect them too?

First of all....Did you watch the KU - A&M game? Do you remember when A&M came into memorial stadium and ran all over us? The point isn't that they ran all over US....it is that they ran all over us in OUR STADIUM. KU held them to under 100 yards rushing IN KYLE FIELD.

I know that their schedule is a joke. They certainly played some slouches at the beginning of this year, certainly no argument from me there, but their first 4 games they won by an average of 48 points. But Jeez, what else can you really ask of the players. They don't make the schedule, they just play the games.

They have done all that you could possibly ask of them.

As far as your argument about "you want them to beat a good team"

A: They went to Manhattan and beat K-State

B: They went to Boulder and beat Colorado

C: They went to College Station and beat A&M

Last I checked it was pretty difficult to win in the big XII on the road.

And I want to make this clear....I AM DEFINITELY NOT sitting here trying to tell you that I think KU is a national title contender, or even that I think they can compete with OU(because I think OU will stomp them). I am simply saying, lets give them credit right now, because THEY DESERVE IT.

  5. Niles Paul, Major Culbert and Chris Brooks. But yah, I totally agree with you. Getting the frosh and sophs some meaningful series will benefit them for the long run with experience and confidence. Heck, maybe one or a few of these guys will turn into playmakers. It just doesnt happen though when they are sitting on their helmets on the sidelines. I am excited to see the remaining games and what happens.

WOW can't believe I forgot Niles Paul...and I really wanted to list Chris Brooks.....but I didn't know if he would qualify since he has been here for a while

  6. I know that a lot of our veteran players are not going to be playing this weekend, and while it is definitely going to make for a difficult weekend, I am very excited to see some of our younger players finally getting some time. Since their redshirts have been burned, and we aren't playing for anything.....I think this is goign to be a fun game to watch.

Javario started last week and looked good, we will get to see a lot more of wortman and washington at the linebacker spots. Thenarse is finally getting the time he deserves in the secondary.

    Ganz is getting his shot.

We have been seeing more of Helu and Castille.

Now, if we can just get a little more of Prince, Blue, Will Henry, and Meno....anyone I am forgetting?

  7. 40 times for lineman especially are really pointless.

What you want from your lineman are lifting stats and how good is their footwork at stuff like ladder workouts.

Another thing with lineman that you want is something that can't be measured, a nasty streak. Guys like Jake Gdowski, Richie Incognito, Ricky Henry are those types of guys.

Normally I would 100% agree with you that 40 times for linemen are pointless. But the difference between Baker and the rest of the guys is so large......I would say it warrants some extra excitement.

Sheesh, our D-Line is so bad, I hope he plays defense.

  8. Ouch. Brandenburgh is out for the year and Ruud and Lawrence won't be traveling.

Who are we going to play? Dillard/McKeon at MIKE, Octavien at WILL...Culbert moves to SAM? Stafford? I remember they said he wasn't going to redshirt this year but it looks like he has. Who else?

Expect to see a lot of Wortman. and HOPEFULLY Latravis Washington. I have also heard that Dillard will not be starting due to a bad quad....should be interesting.

    GBR

  9. It's a funny thing how great those All Americans learned to play basketball at Illinois after Self left. Like I said, he's a great recruiter. 7 McDonald's All Americans is very impressive. The men's Olympic basketball team wins a lot of their games as well, but they haven't won the gold for quite some time with the best players in the World. I guess Clownahan will be an outstanding coach if next year we win the Big 12 and play in a BCS game with a new HC? Sounds logical I guess.

He is a four-time finalist for the Naismith Coach of the Year Award (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003), was named National Coach of the Year by The Sporting News in 2000, and the Big 12 Coach Year in 2006.

  10. 2nd to Nunn loves him some KU.

I do like their basketball team, and they are a lot of fun to watch. I think of them as basically the same as Nebraska Football. Powerhouse programs that have consistently been in the top 10....while recruiting the majority of their athletes from other parts of the country.

  11. Roy Williams(at Kansas) recruited offensive players and built his teams to run what he calls a "secondary break."

Bill Self recruits the most athletic kids he can get, because he wants them to play defense and use their defense to get easy buckets.

  12. This is in response to a lot of the crap I’ve been reading on this forum for the past 4 days. I especially enjoyed the one titled “where will Kansas be in 5 years”? To answer that- Who really cares!?! Now is the most important time. I guess if that post helps Husker nation sleep better at night, then so be it. But the reality is that Nebraska is the laughing stock of the nation and it really is sad. I guess if you all want to tell yourself that Mangino is going to be gone real soon and you won’t have to worry about KU anymore that’s OK. I mean, do what you have to do to get through this embarrassing season! But I’m only gonna tell you this once so listen up Husker nation- Mangino is going to STAY AT KU. Period.

Why? Because we have the best AD in all of the nation. Lew Perkins knows what it takes to be a winner, and he knows the value of a football program and how much more money it can generate compared to basketball. Perkins turned UCONN into a top 25 program and he’s doing the same at KU. So long story short, get used to this. KU will remain a threat for years to come. And don’t look now delusional husker fans, but KU returns 85% of their starters next season! So don’t be so sure this is a 1 hit wonder, cause it’s not.

Here is my question to you all-How can a team (Nebraska) with that much talent play so bad? Well, talent according to rivals, but in reality your defense is the slowest in the Big 12 conference. OK, maybe Baylor is a little slower, but you’re neck and neck. My only conclusion to this is that your coach’s ego has yet again gotten into the way of the team and his bad attitude/arrogant attitude has killed this team mentally (See the Oakland Raiders, Coach C’s previous adventure). Same thing that happened in Oakland is happening now. Pathetic Hire by that egotistical AD of yours.

Thank your lucky stars that nut job is gone. He thought just because you had Nebraska written across your chest you would win games and you were entitled to achieve excellence. News Flash: that doesn’t work in college football. You have to be mentally tough and take NO ONE for granted because each and every week is a test. Once your program figures that out you may get back to where you were in 2000.

So this finally brings me to our game on Saturday. So you all think KU has played nobody huh? Well need I remind you that KU beat A&M in College Station just a week ago and held them to 74 yards of total rushing. That same Aggie squad put 370 rushing yards on NU and had been averaging 285 rushing yards a game. I would say after road wins at Manhattan, at Colorado (OU lost there), and at Texas A&M is pretty damn impressive if you ask me or anyone who knows anything about college football. Don’t be surprised if MU losses to CU in Boulder this weekend. That’s a tough place to win.

So here is my prediction for this weekend. You’ll all hate this, but it’s reality.

    KU 45 NU 9

Hope to see you all in Lawrence this week to watch the 2007 Big 12 Champs play.

Best AD in all of the nation? Is this the same AD that just gave Bill Self a contract extension? Bill Self is doing to KU basketball what Bill Clownahan has done to Husker Football. They're a mirror image of one another. Both can recruit like hell, but neither have any idea what to do with them once they get there. It's amazing how Illinois suddenly got tremendously better the year after Self left for KU. Keep telling yourself you have an amazing AD.

Slowest D in the Big 12? Define slowest because we have some guys that run some pretty fast 40's on our D. We may look tremendously slow on the field, but I think this has a lot more to do with being out of position and scheme than anything else.

I hope KU does represent the North this year, and I've always quietly rooted for them. I still remember Glenn Mason going for 2 instead of kicking the PAT because he either wanted to win the game or lose the game rather than screwing up TO's chance of playing for the NC with the game ending in a tie. I would love to see Mangino duke it out with former boss Bob Stoops in the Big 12 title game.

This is probably one of the most uneduacted and ignorant posts I have read. Bill Self doing the same thing as Callahan? What a joke.

Bill self is one of VERY FEW coaches, to take THREE teams to the elite 8. Don't forget that Bill Self(a bad coach, according to you) took FREAKING TULSA to the elite 8.

The illinois team that was soo good was ALL Bill Self's players. They did well right after he left yes....but where are they now?? They are nothing compared to what they were headed during his tenure.

Talk to KU fans, and most of them LOVE BILL SELF. He (a DEFENSIVE coach) took Kansas to the Elite 8 in his first year.....with a team built COMPLETELY for offense. That is called adaptability.....and adaptability is one trait that all great coaches share.

KU's AD is undoubtedly one of the best AD's in the country.
