  1. I LOVE college football, wayyy more than the NFL. That being said....

They screw up the freaking rosers on this game every year. I love to play the game, but there is no way I am wasting money on a game that doesn't even take the time to get a team in the Top 25's roster right.

Madden will always be the king of video game football. NCAA is just a wannabe.

  2. I do not know what the depth chart will look like, but here is what I think WOULD BE BEST for us on paper

3rd string RB - Castille will get some time here. Hopefully Culbert will be moved back where he belongs, to defense, and Castille and Mendoza will split time here depending on the situation.

OL - There will be plenty of young guys getting time on the line this year...look for DJ Jones to overtake Murtha some time during the season. Murtha just ain't nasty enough

DL - I agree with the poster who said that Yancy may see some time behind Turner. Other than Barry (and possibly Octavien) we will need an energy/speed guy that can get to the quarterback...Yancy is this guy

Corner - I certainly hope to see Bowman/Jones...I know grixby has played for 3 years, and even though he is a little guy-he likes to stick his nose in there and make a tackle.....we just CAN'T AFFORD to be leaving the help over him on every single play. We simply CAN NOT EVER leave him on an island man-to-man. Teams have big tall receivers (like USC and the whorns), and constantly leaving a safety over the top of Grixby limits us. Then, the opposing offense knows that the saftey help will be weak against the run on that side of the field. I love grixby and think he is a good player...but better for nickel/dime situations. It would kill us to have a safety rolled up over him every single down.

and finally Safety - After going to the spring game, I am absolutely PRAYING that Ricky and Larry are the safeties. Ricky was electric during the spring game, and he brings the intensity and enthusiasm that reminds of the good defenses we had in the 90's. Green and Wilson are capable, however, i LOVE the energy that Ricky brings. Asante is virtually a lock, and having him paired up with Thenarse would be SOOOOO EXCITING to watch.

PLEEEAAAAASE PUT THENARSE ON THE FIELD!!!! ANYWHERE!!!!

  3. I am kind of expecting 2 games. I really think that he probably deserves at least 4, but I am guessing 2 will be the punishment. 4 games is a significant enough chunk that it would possibly affect his status for the NFL draft.

It is during the non-conference schedule where dominant players usually pump up the stats a little bit before they hit the grind that is conference play. I understand it is a little different this year because of the very difficult non conference schedule though.

  4. In last years recruiting class, we got the two different extremes of running backs. Castille is the big bruiser that will run between the tackles, and mendoza/amukamara will be running on the outside, as more of a slashing/speed type running back.

It would DEFINITELY be nice to get a running back that fits the mold of a player who is more than capable of both. I am sure we will be find with the guys we have, but I would just feel much more comfortable with a multidimensional running back.

  5. Come on guys, lets be serious, Notre Dame is most certainly a better school than Nebraska.

Depends on what you mean by "better". The average grad from ND will probably have more opportunity than the average grad from UNL, but i think this is mostly to do with the connections you get by going to ND vs UNL. Statistically speaking, ND leads to better jobs for the average individual.

I'm unsure of ND success with placement into graduate school. They probably have an advantage here too, but i would suspect it also has more to do with connections.

In terms of the education recieved, i think most of it has to do with the effort the student puts in vs which school they go to. I believe this is true for most all undergrad programs. A grad from UNL can be just as knowledgeable and trained as a grad from ND, Harvard, UM, tOSU etc. Likewise, a person who slacks off at one of these "great" schools will be just as worthless as a slacker from any other school.

There are a few exceptions that i can think of (like Cal Tech and MIT if you are looking for a math or engineering grad) but for the most part, at the undergraduate level, the student is the most important factor not the school.

The graduate level is where things start to change, and certain schools most definitely do give an advantage depending on major, area of interest, resources etc.

Thus, imo, the greatest advantage ND has is it's job connections for it's alumni. Which, is not something to take lightly. However, Trevor would hardly be the average grad from UNL and is probably thinking NFL after college anyway. For a guy in Trevor's situation, i do think ND "betterness" is minimal.

When it comes down to it, if we are talking academics alone, ND is considered a better institution. I have not attended ND, and I have not attended NU, so I am not saying that ND offers a superior education on the most literal level than NU. HOWEVER, if two guys both got their undergraduate degrees, one at each school...and they were completely equal in every aspect , and all connections aside, are both applying for the same job, the ND graduate wins every time.

As far as the argument that a "slacker" student at ND, is no better off than a great student at NU...this is completely irrelevant.

We are talking about ONE young man. You have to assume he will put forth the same effort at both schools. I don't really understand the logic with this argument.

  6. Come on guys, lets be serious, Notre Dame is most certainly a better school than Nebraska. Simply look at out of state admissions, and that is obvious. Claiming that we are on an equal level to them in academics is rather silly. However, there is absolutely nothing wrong with getting an education at Nebraska, and a degree from NU would certainly serve you well later in life. In all honesty I believe that (playing time at the two schools being equal) Notre Dame probably offers better opportunities as a football player as well. I will probably be attacked for saying this but....They are on National Television practically every single weekend. We will be lucky if we are on national television 4 times throughout the regular season. We are almost always on a regional broadcast only. The opportunity for personal exposure is much greater there. However, I would certainly hope he is making his decision based on the actual team and program, rather than selfish reasons like self exposure.

That being said, Nebraska has a ton to offer: If the rumors are true, he has been a huge fan of us for his entire life....we certainly have that going for us. Also, I think the chance for playing time is better here. We are closer to home, therefore closer to his friends and family.

It is hard to imagine a life long Nebraska fan being a domer, but it seems both schools have their positives. Does anyone know if this young man was raised Catholic?

  7. Win or Lose that is going to be one hell of a week leading up to that game. It is not very often a team gets a chance to play the unanimous #1 preseason to prove that you are back. Let's just pray Callahan doesnt tighten up, and we at least get to let loose this year. Last year was pretty anti-climactic.

  8. He is gone. Good Luck Trevor.

Let's not get all worked up about this. He is gone, he is not coming back....let's just move on. I am hoping this isn't a huge surprise to the coaching staff and they have a back up plan. But its OK, we will be fine....WE ARE NEBRASKA. There will definitely be some talented linemen that DO want to be a part of our program.

  9. It is definitely the minority on this site that attack quickly. I think any site that is specifically devoted to one team will have those idiots that just attack "outsiders" for no reason. There are numerous people on this site who would love to talk football, you just have to ignore the aggressive idiots. As far as TR goes....he is just a 17 year old kid. I really do want him to come to nebraska and be a part of this special offensive line class we have coming in, but if he thinks ND is the place for him then so be it. I certainly will not attack the character of a young man who is making one of the most important decisions of his life UP UNTIL THIS POINT. Sure, it may have been irresponsible of him to commit before he was 100% sure, but so what...who of the critics on here has never made a mistake? Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

If TR picks notre dame, good luck to him.....I, for one, think ND being a power in college football is good for the overall sport. If he has to leave us, i would much rather it be to a school that we will never come in contact with, unless it is in a bowl game. We have lost better players than TR to teams in the BXII. So come on guys, get over it!!!! We will be ok!

  10. My guess is...consider him gone. He has a high school teammate that is going to Texas that he stated early on he would really like to play with. He had been waiting for an offer from the whorns, and it looks like he finally got it. I am fully expecting to lose him at this point. A reaffirmation from him towards us, although unlikely, sure would be refreshing though

  11. Unfortunately for him, I think its the byproduct of playing with one of the best point guards of all time in Jason Kidd. He's the kind of player that makes everyone around him better. Mikki Moore led the league in field goal percentage this season - largely because Kidd was always getting him set up for dunks.

But hey, if he can contribute to a playoff team and create a niche for himself in New Jersey or somewhere else then good for him.

Amazing how pretty the simple pick 'n roll is when executed properly. Kidd and Mikki do it pretty well. I never liked them much, but the play should be re-named the Stockton and Malone. Nash and Stoudamire are the best at running it right now.

I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure that Mikki lead the entire NBA in field goal percentage this year.

  12. Green and Asante were rotating at Strong Safety and Wilson played almost the entire time at Free Safety. Perhaps Bryan is playing his way onto the field and Tierre is not doing enough to prove he deserves to be a starter.

i cant imagine that green has gotten beat out. if that was the case wouldnt it make much more sense to move HIM to rb?

or corner.....considering our lack of depth there Thenarse showed he is good enough to be the safety to come in if either get hurt. I think it would be a good idea to move him back to corner.

  13. What is the problem with Tierre Green? It seemed like Wilson was in his safety spot the whole game. I certainly have no problem with Wilson, and if he won the job, good for him.....but I was surprised to not see green in there

  14. Maryland? I had no idea that we have a recruiter that goes all the way to Maryland. I don't recall hearing much about prospects from this part of the country being recruited by nebraska. This is probably a direct consequence of not getting the shutdown high school corner we were looking for in last years class.

Is anyone aware of which recruiter is responsible for recruiting this area?

  15. Those husker fans who are hoping for Quentin Castille to Redshirt can kiss that goodbye if Cody Glenn is Hurt. There is no possibly way we can go an entire season with Lucky, Mendoza, and Prince carrying the ball. We are going to NEED that big time bruiser back....without Cody, we are in trouble!

  16. It seems like their fans are constantly complaining about the guy. I really don't know much about Houston Nutt as a person, but as a coach he seems to be pretty decent. They were an outstanding team last year, and he was able to recruit some of the best players in the country(McFadden, Mustain)...even if Mustain didn't work out, he was VERY highly rated.

Yet, their fans aren't happy with him at all. Its not as if they are a traditional football powerhouse who expects to be any better than what they were last year...I am just curious as to what their major complaints are about him.

  17. I haven't really heard one thing that is favoring Ganz in this QB "competition". The only positive thing I have heard anyone say about him is that he knows the offense better...and that will come with time for Keller. In my opinion, this "competition" is not much of one, if at all.

  18. Here is my only concern about the coaches playing who is best for the position/team. Three situations from this past year come to mind. Lucky in over Brandon Jackson in many instances, Andre Jones instead of giving someone like Ricky Thenarse a chance and probably the largest issue, MATT HERRIAN. I question those three choices. I know that Husker Nation loves Matt but he is and has been done since his knee injury. He doesn't have the speed, the confidence or the ability any longer. Instead of playing a more capable tight end throughout the season, the coaching staff continued to play Matt for the majority of the games. I have to question that decision and wonder what the reasoning behind the decision was...

Good points and another for pondering is why do we not use the TE???? regardless of which one is on the field.

I don't mean for blocking but for stretching the "D"

What good does it do to line up TE's in the FB or slot position if you don't throw them the ball?

I must say I never understood Herian always being on the field either. I remember Callahan saying hat he was expecting to use the TEs a lot in the WCO, however, it seems that our lack of a receiving threat at the position made him more inclined to use the TE as a blocker. I am guessing that this means most teams were using Zone defenses to defend us. If the other teams were guarding us in man to man, we would want the TE to go out on a pattern to get rid of another possible rusher. If they are in zone, it would make sense to leave another blocker in that is no threat as a receiver, because the defense will have the same number of people rushing....regardless of how many receivers are out in routes.

  19. which radio stations are you referring to? The only mention of him that I have heard was on 610 and it was on the Tim Grunhardt Show(former Center for the chiefs, and current head coach at Bishop Miege). He was actually giving Nebraska props and saying that "The huskers are back". He said that Lawrence may have been the steal out of Kansas City this year and that he eerily reminds him of Brian Urlacher.

I heard it on 610 in the afternoon with Marty Wall and Neil Jones. They both said

it but Neil Jones was making comments how his carrer is over because he went

to Nebraska. He said he didnt understand why he couldnt go to one of the 3 area

    schools.

I listen to 610 quite often, and I have come to despise those two. One of them, I am not sure which, is so pro OUch that it makes me sick. I will listen to that station all day, but I turn it off for Neil and Marty. DA actually had Blake Lawrence on as a guest the morning of signing day, and DA was giving Nebraska a little bit of credit.
