  1. bullsh#t how does ksu get ranked above us for beating a clearly overrated Texas team?

Because Texas is the Notre Dame of the trans Mississippi thats why. They get votes just because of what they have done in the past. Pure and simple. They are the Notre Dame of cow manure.

  2. Am I the only one who thinks there isn't going to be a undefeated team in the national championship this year? I think USC will end up losing 1 or 2 and LSU will go down once. When was the last time a national championship sidnt have a undefeated team in it?

    I agree.

I have said I think we will lose one game this year and with all our injuries and the way we played against the Huskies, I know we will lose one. I think everyone else will also. What will the BCS do if five or six teams all finish with one loss?

  3. and (9) Wisconsin and (6) Cal barley won as well. CRAZINESS!

My boys escape! Wheew. I vote LSU #1. We stunk, LSU is playing better. Just reality at this point. Our injuries are getting to the critical point.

  4. I am born and raised in Scottsdale, AZ and have zero ties to Nebraska in any way but I have always been an NU fan for the 32 years of my life. I support my team and I am loyal to my team, more so than a lot of fans for other schools. You are a fan if you say you are a fan. That is the only requirement. Put NU in front of any other school and always cheer for them to win and you are a REAL fan.

Having said that there are others on here that will say I am not a true fan b/c I don't like our coaching staff. Ignore those haters also. They aren't a true representation of NU fans just like the lady you mentioned above. My guess is she is just having some fun. I hope she is just having some fun giving you a hard time.

Also, to me it mens A LOT if you chose NU rather than with some people I feel NU chose them because of where they were born into it and they don't truly love NU...I said "some" as in very few.

Well according to Ms. Arrogance I couldn't be a USC fan, but I am. By the way, my alma mater is Appalachian (yeah the one that beat Michigan). But that doesn't keep me from being a USC fan. Even though my third child is at SC, I couldn't make this person's grade. Tell her to bug off. You just go on being a fan of the team your heart is with, The Huskers! ;)

    Go Mountaineers!

    Fight On!

    GBR!

  5. Scott Wolf of IndsideUSC had this answer to a question of what was a must see game for USC fans.

"The one away game that usually is the must-see game is Notre Dame, because the atmosphere is usually perfect and every fan should experience it. However, since I’ve been to Notre Dame many times, I have to admit Nebraska was the game I looked forward to. And the atmosphere did not disappoint. The stadium’s location in the actual city was also unique and made it quite an experience to walk around the city and then walk to the stadium."

  6. As time moves on, it becomes more and more apparent that there is a rift in the Nebraska fan base that has become an infected wound. It is readily apparent that there is a group of 'fans' that hope, beg and pray for bad things to happen to the team. The venom these people spew goes beyond criticism, they are venturing into hate, of the team they claim to love. This even goes into former players. Listening to Broderick Thomas today, and the hate he had at the staff is disturbing.

The origin of the schism is easy to spot. The coaching change prior to the 2004 season. Some took the firing of Solich as almost a personal attack. I'm not here to debate the right or wrong of it, just the origin of the split in the fan base. I honestly believe that some of these people would not have been happy with anyone, the loyalty they had to the old staff was that great. Others wanted Solich gone, but did't get who they wanted, so they are unhappy.

With the losses of the 2004 season, many of these people were already screaming "I told you so!" Some seem to feel that the loss of the option somehow defiled the program itself. The option wasn't always the identity of the team. Run first, perhaps, option, no. The option didn't get installed until Osborne couldn't beat it with OU running it.

The venom has gotten worse with ever little thing that doesn't happen perfectly. Wins are not enough. They must be dominating. Getting to thresholds that we hadn't seen in years was deemed a cop-out. Anyone happy with that was an apologist, and accepting mediocrity. Any year without a National Championship would be deemed a failure. Osborne had 22 years of failure with this standard.

The truth is, this program has been mediocre following the beat down at Colorado. The aura was blown off the N following that game, and has never recovered. 6-6 in 2002 is easy proof. Getting the doors blown off vs every good team in 2003 is more. The program is still spinning from the fear being broken.

This has happened to every team at some point. If you look at the power programs of the 1990s, most of them have all fallen of what can be considered hard times. Florida State, Michigan, Miami and all down. Florida had a small drop but has recovered. In the conference Colorado, Kansas State and Texas A&M have all missed bowls. I know this comparison will draw the line "But THIS is Nebraska!! We are immune to this!" But apparently not, as much as we wish it were true. Parity and retirement of legends effect everyone.

Now we come to this season. The venom coming after the USC blow out was bad, some of the worst I ever remember seeing. Then comes the Ball State game. Horrible defensive play and a near loss vs a middling opponent has split the fan base to a chasm.

This chasm is not healthy for the program. The fans can feel it, the players can feel it. The players can see the venom. They read the papers. They listen to the radio. They watch TV. They have the internet. Hell, it wouldn't come as a shock to me if there were current players who were members of this very forum. They know what some people say about them. The fans booed the players at the game.

After listening to the blackshirt round table today, the idea that the players do not believe in what the defensive coaches are trying to teach is easy to understand. If every time I turned around I heard and saw people didn't even know criticizing my every move, calling my bosses idiots, and demanding they be fired, it would sit in the back of my mind. And with any flaw in my work, it would come to the forefront. And if things were not working, I would begin to doubt to them as well.

We expect the team to play as one, to be as one, and we as a fanbase cant even root for them as one. There are some deep problems with the programs at the moment, and it is not entirely the coaches. We as Nebraska fans like to call ourselves 'The Greatest Fans on Earth'. But we have not behaved like The Greatest Fans on Earth since the Colorado beat down. We have behaved like every other team's fanbase. And we wonder, why have we become like everyone else. Maybe we need a long hard look in the mirror before answering this question.

stigori you hit the nail on the head.

I don't know squat about Solich vs. Callahan and don't care who is "right". I do see a once great football tradition fall on hard times and the fans fall with it.

Before the SC game I heard a lot of smack about how "arrogant" USC fans are. Well, we are. A popular t-shirt worn on SC campus says, "At USC we are not stuck up, we're just better than everyone else" Thats arrogant! You want to hear another example of arrogance, "We are Nebraska" Thats arrogant.

Do you really think you are so self rightesously smug that you are immune to down years. That, God forbid, you just may be average? Lets hate all the ESPN reporters and everyone else who says you are average. We are not average, "We are Nebraska". We have our rose colered glasses to protect us.

Poor old Poohbear comes in with a little dose of reality, sprinkled with some negativity, and he is skewered. He just pointed out SC is pretty good, and Nebraska didn't match up quite as well. Boy, that didn't go over well. KILL THE MESSENGER. We like living in our football version of The Emporer's New Clothes.

Now you are devouring each other. It makes me sad. There has been a noticable decline in this board's posts since I joined in April.

You ask, what do you know about what we are going through? Well I'll tell you. I lived through our own version of what you are going through now. For 15 YEARS we wallowed in mediocrity. We lost at home to Memphis State, a school that doesn't even have a football team now. We were 3-8 that year. 3-8! I know what its like. Constructive criticizm yes, tearing each other apart and someone declaring themself some kind of "god" is pathetic.

You are better than this. You are a champion tradition. Be angry, vent, whatever, but keep it between the lines. This has gotten way to personal and irrational. After all you are family and you are Nebraska!

    GBR

  7. So if they are feeding off the crowd...why has it still been so difficult?!? It isn't like everyone was booing every play. I always noticed the noise on all the 3rd and longs Ball St. converted with ease.

it takes a big man to come back and say he regrets saying something negitive. i hope that NU fans are big enough to forgive him

Why wouldn't I? He's played better ball on D than most, anyway.

It's funny, yet sad...he spoke out of frustration and emotion and apologized and is moving on...meanwhile, the 'lynch mob' on here has barely began to hold a grudge, and is trying to dismantle this season as fast as they can. I doubt you'll see any apologies from the hatemongers...

Oh wait, yes you will...if the season goes well, all will be forgiven.

True. True. Its the winning is everything mentality.

  8. -----THIS POST HAS BEEN EDITED OF THE NATIONAL POLITICAL COMMENTS------

There used to be the Sea of Red. Now we boo.

There used to be an unstoppable running game. Now we struggle at best.

There used to be an impenetrable defense. Now the only thing that stops Running Backs is the End Zone.

There used to be RESPECT. Not anymore.

There used to be INTEGRITY. Not anymore.

There used to be FOOTBALL. Just FOOTBALL. Not anymore.

    Now we have Politics.

I am red, through thick and thin, I am red. I am not on a bandwagon to Fire Everyone. Although some changes need to be made. I am not giving up on Big Red. I am however posing a question. More of a theory, looking for opinions.

When will the politics that were brought here by Steve Pedersen stop ruining Nebraska Football?

AT WHAT POINT DOES SOMEBODY (HARVEY PERLMAN?) SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! WERE ARE THE REGENTS? WERE ARE THE BOOSTERS? WHERE ARE THE CHECKS AND BALANCES?!?!?!?

    Nebraska is a laughing stock!

Pedersen hires Callahan, who hires Jay Norvell, John Blake, Scott Downing, Shawn Watson, Kevin Cosgrove, Ted Gilmore, Buddy Wyatt, Joe Rudolph, Bill Busch, Dennis Wagner, Phil Elmassian, Randy Jordon. (Some no longer here), ALL FRIENDS.

ALL UNDER QUALIFIED BY WHAT USED TO BE NEBRASKA STANDARDS.

BIGGEST LOSSES: Bo Pelini, Turner Gill, Ron Brown. ALL QUALIFIED NU COACHES.

IS NO ONE ELSE CURIOUS ABOUT WHY NOBODY GETS QUESTIONED ANYMORE.

Callahan was a 4th choice at best, gives his friends important positions, changes our offense (completely unnecessary), then throws our players out on the field unprepared. With an overly complex system - offense and defense.

    :boxosoap

IF YOU READ THIS -- THANK YOU.

LET HARVEY KNOW YOUR DISPLEASURE FOR STEVE PEDERSEN AND THE POLITICS HE'S BROUGHT: hperlman1@unl.edu

GO BIG RED. GO BIG RED. GO BIG RED.

    ------------------------------------------

The point is not, "who is or is not qualified". The point is not my political views. THE POINT IS: THINGS ARE HAPPENING IN NEBRASKA SPORTS, FOOTBALL IN SPECIFIC THAT NOBODY IS QUESTIONING. Eveybody is mad, but nobody is asking questions!

My post is not meant for commenting, it is a statement. WHERE IS HARVEY, THE REGENTS, THE BOOSTERS?

How are Pedey and Cally getting extensions -- EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVEN'T PROVED ANYTHING!

I DON'T THINK WE SHOULD FIRE CALLAHAN, I DON'T WANT THIS PROGRAM SET BACK EVEN FURTHER. I DO FEEL THAT COSGROVE MUST GO BY SEASON'S END. In any REAL profession - if you fail at your job (which Coz has over and over - at Wisconsin and Nebraska) - you get FIRED.

    ------------------------------------------

    Steps to Repairing Nebraska Football:

    1. Fire Coz

    2. Work out like MOST College teams - Full pads 2-3 days a week. Back to Basics.

    3. GET THE SWAGGER BACK. Confidence --> Where did it go?

    4. Get back in the weight room for the love of Tom! We get overpowered.

    5. CHANGE THE F'N TUNNEL WALK - IT SUCKS

Pete Carroll was the 4th or 5th choice for USC. Not bad.

Two weeks ago this board was full of "Restore the Order"!. Now its full of people like you pointing out the ship is taking on water so lets just punch a whole in the bottom!

John Wooden coached 17 years before he won his first NCAA basketball NC. Then he won 10!

Its way to early to call for firing the coaches.

You lost your ENTIRE D-line last year for Christ sake. We lost our entire backfield year before last and our running game sucked all year.

By the way, linebackers play real well when they have great tackles in front of them, poorly when they don't.

Your recievers can't seem to catch passes. Last time I looked, that wasn't a coaching problem. Our receivers couldn't catch passes until this past week, remember the drops against you guys. Nobody here was wanting to fire the new OC.

You call this a statement? This is a rant. Sounds like you politicize everything. Its just a sport for crying out loud, not some Bourne Identity football conspiracy. "I can remember the last seven plays our team ran, but I don't know how I can do that." Sheesh.

  9. I'm new here. I have viewed this board and Huskerpedia for several years as a fan who cannot get to Nebraska and watch them on a weekly basis. I have had the opportunity to attend only 2 live games both bowl games which I had to buy visitor tickets since none was available.

I wore the Husker Red both times and lived thru it. Could care less what the other team thought but mostly found them to be pleasant and welcoming if you can believe that.

My family is originally from Nebraska and I began watching them when I was 10 years old during the first two National Championships.

I am and always was a Tom Osborne fan and still am. He is a person I have a deep respect for. I remember the days when many so called Husker fans all most drove him away, with his staff he was loyal too. All because they could not beat Oklahoma.

I spent over 20 years wishing he could win a Championship for Nebraska and himself while so called Husker fans talked crap about him and others. I would honestly say this was only a few people. I saw him maintain his loyalty to his staff thru thick and thin. Wins and losses. This to me was the Husker way.

I saw Frank Solich be ran away from the team in favor of a new way. I didn't understand that then or now although there might of been better Coaches in time I felt he also would acheive great things.

I have no beef with Coach Callahan or his staff. I would expect him to be loyal to his staff and team and learn and build. The players are young men striving to do there best on a daily basis. I beleive that because of those behind them itching to take there spots.

I do now have a beef with some of those select few who wish to decide to QUIT this team. Yeah quit! I never thought Nebraska fans would act this way. Totally shameless. People like you would of ran Osborne off in his first 4 years. Did run Solich off with your bickering and whining and I expect to hear in the next few days or months that this attitude ran off some new recruits and others on the team.

The season isn't over and the results are not complete. Why drag your team down now. Many teams would of taken a victory last week. Right or wrong this team earned theres as well.

I was dissapointed in our game the other day but mostly I'm disapointed in the likes of you. Perhaps some of you need to get a life. Although, I am a Husker fan thru nd thru I do have better things to do than set around and wite and say garbage about athletes playing for Nebraska.

And to those have quit on this team. Please let me know how I may purchase your game tickets. I can only afford the most resonable offer. My family and I would cherish the opportunity to attend one home game. Just one!!

We will need 10 tickets please and yes I am serious. The opponent does not matter.

The day I got to see the Trojans play in the Coliseum is a day I will never forget. Longed for it for so long. I know how you feel. Yours will also be a great experience. By the way, I didn't care who the opponent was either. Great post! Welcome.

  10. I think there's just two schools of thought here. I mean it's like a republican vs democrat debate. Republicans seem to think that if you criticize the government you're un-american, Democrats seem to think that if you criticize the government you're being a responsible american.

Here we have people that think that criticizing the team is un-husker and some of us think that it's the responsibility of a husker fan to voice their distaste.

    Good analogy.

  11. I agree with TX. There is nothing wrong with the offense, 40 points on the board, it shouldnt have been a game. But after defending Coz for the last couple seasons, I am not firmly aboard the fire Coz train. 600 yards. Gave up 40+ in consecutive games. Blackshirts need to be stripped this week as well.

Callahan can send a strong signal to the defense by taking all the blackshirts away. Its obvious the team didn't follow Bowman's lead. It needs to come from the top, not Coz.

I know you guys are angry, and rightly so, but is there a precedent somewhere in D-1 ball for firing the DC in mid season and that team turning things around by year end? I don't know. I'm just asking the question.

  12. Third quarter, Miama vs. A&M. Aggies getting absolutely sh#t-stomped. Can't defend the pass, can't defend the run. Offense chocked up all day, no progress. I was really worried about that game, and still am a bit, but apparently they don't have much defense and are easily fooled by a little PA.

Im watching the game now and its not goin well at all for A&M they are getting whooped..PA 50 yard pass wide open receiver

I turned it off when it went to 21 zip. Hardly worth watching. Didn't Oklahoma kill this Miami team earlier this year, or was it somebody else?

  13. I'm seriously starting to wonder how long this rebuilding thing is going to take.

When "the option" comes back, so will Nebraska football. Until then, don't hold your breath.

I hope for your sake you have someting better to do with your time then come on here and flame. Yes we got beat by better coaching and talent, that was obvious. You however need to start looking at the rest of your schedule and maybe think of something worth reading before posting. If you were at the game I hope you had a great time, if not congradulations on the win. Now go find someone else to irritate because you are starting to get boring. :asshat

USC Tradition my ass! More like USC Scum. Thanks for canning him Dave.
