  1. All the questions about competitive fire aside, I'm glad we got him. I vaguely remember being a little unsure about where I should go to college when I was 18, I don't think things have changed so much since then. I didn't have 20 people calling me everyday asking about it either. I would think that adds a little pressure to a huge decision that a high schooler has to make. So glad he nutted up and is going to add a lot of much needed QB depth.

    WELCOME BRION! :koolaid2::nanalama:cheers

  2. Tough to argue that Owa & Cooper wouldn't be our best recruits of this class (if we get 'em). But, Carnes might just be the playmaker we need. We're pretty well set on defense. It's offense we're having the most trouble with, and Carnes definitely has the makings of fixing those offensive woes.

I would still rank Hardrick 2nd behind Owa, that man is an IMPACT player.

Hardrick is also an immediate fix for an immediate need at OT.

People say that Cooper is a big need for the class, and I agree. But Yoshi is the BIGGEST need and it is not even close.

Who or what is "Yoshi"? I only know of a Nintendo game of the same name. Is this some sort of vernacular for a position on a football team? I have never heard of any position being called "yoshi". Grammar seems to suggest someone's name is Yoshi, however, deciphering grammar on the internet is not the best way to try and understand one's intended meaning. I don't recall any Yoshi being recruited by anyone. I have heard of Yoshimura exaust pipes, though. I had some on a Kawasaki KZ1000 that I had back in the day. Can someone help a brotha out?

  3. Without trying to turn this into a pissing match, I'd like to discuss my major issues with Wats.

First off, the OC's job is to put together an offense that the HC wants to implement. It was obvious that Bo gave Wats plenty of opportunities to do "his thing". When Wats proved that he couldn't manage that, Bo tightened the reins, hence the change to overwhelming high amount of run plays. It wasn't his willingness to change, it was his fear of unemployment that caused the changes. All coaches have huge egos and don't want to sink running someone else's idea of an offense. [/i]This is pure speculation, unless you are a coach involved in game planning. I think he would have been and still would be able to procure employment rather easily were he to leave Nebraska. Our former Defensive Coordinator found another job. If he can, Watson can.

Secondly, as the OC, you are the CEO, if you will, of the offense. You oversee everything that goes on in the organization. I know injuries can really derail a season, but to compare our injuries to that of OU's is ridiculous. Hell, Va Tech lost a Freshman All-American and replaced him with another. My point is, Wats has control over who we recruit and who we bring in and also has the responsibility of getting said players ready for the games. If he can not handle that, he needs to find a new profession. And it's not like the players lost were All-Americans or even All-Big XII caliber. And Va Tech lost 3 games this season, they need to fire someone. Va Tech #58 offense 388 yds/game 47 TDs; NU #101 offense 317 yds/game 37 TDs We have a 70yds per game deficit. They scored more TDs. We both won 10 games.

Third, if the injury to Lee was a hinderance, than why not use CG or Helu or any other number of guys to play Burkhead's role in the "Wildcat" formation. Don't feed me lines about a hurt QB and then hope I don't remember us taking shots downfield on a regular occassion to deflect my doubts about your ability to coach. There is no excuse for being creative and finding ways to get the best athletes on the field.I'm sure the only reason we threw deep on occasion was to deflect your doubts. It had nothing to do with trying to move the safeties back off the line a few yards. I have to disagree with your assertion of no excuse for being creative and finding the best athletes. It seemed to me we were trying to use the best players available for whatever task was at hand.

Lastly, I will not go into details on play-calling and what not, but I would like to point out that stats do a better job of telling the truth than human perception. And 102 nationally is PATHETIC.... What about top 15 nationally? see 2008. If you can remember the '90s(it seems that's all most can remember) surely you can remember last year.

My bottom line is I think we need some coaching stability. Who carried the team last year? Ask Bo, he said it himself. I like Nebraska being a versatile team. We can win many different ways. Take the last 2 years as a whole and I like the direction we are going in. I like the fact that we did what we had to do to win games. We scrapped an unproductive(counterproductive?) offense in mid-season and found a way to win games. Lemonade out of some lemons if you will. After the Iowa St. game, I guarantee nobody was predicting 10 wins, some were even looking for us to miss out on a bowl game. I know that wasn't anyone on this board, but there were some out there. :sarcasm I also get the impression that there is a lot of potential for the next few years, I prefer to remain optimistic. If anything, offensively at least, this year was the anomally. We've been pretty good, offensively, since '06. 06=414yds/game. 07=468yds/game. 08=450yds/game.

I know, I know....Callahan's plays, stats etc. 2008 was Watson. Joe Ganz was productive for 2 years. I think we will be back on track next year with either Zac or Cody.(Is there a disney show with that name?)

With that said, if he is retained, I hope he uses 95% of his upcoming 100 hour work weeks to perfect "his" offense and quit living off "his" stats under Callahan....

  4. I never thought he should be canned. Does he get any credit from last year? or is it just what have you done for me lately? His playcalling earned 450yds/game in 2008. 281 passing and 169 rushing. 919 plays totaling 5860 yds. 6.38 yds/play.

    2009(pre Holiday bowl): 317yds/game. 141 rushing and 175 passing. 803 plays totaling 4123 yds.

    5.13 yds/play.

    Both seasons represent 13 games.

Passing went way down(torn tendon anyone?) Rushing went up, marginally. over 100 less plays in 13 game span.

I think our whole coaching staff did a good job of finding ways to win, getting the players to buy in and believe and give maximum effort. Va Tech, Ia St. and UT all could have(should have?) been Ws. I saw plenty of mistakes in those games that cost us those wins. I don't think blame can be laid at Watson's feet for Va Tech(blown coverage late) or Ia St. (fumblerooski gone awry). Big 12 championship? I've been keeping my eye on the grassy knoll, somethings up there.(puff of smoke) Possible nefarious conference shenanigans? There was one second left, but so many other things missed(I think Suh is still being clutched by UT center), to have an eagle eye on that raises my bullsniffometer.

Anyway, long post longer, I think Mr. Watson should be retained and believe that our offense next year will be more akin to 2008 than to 2009. A healthy and deeper O-line will solve many issues.

  5. Hey Guys! I'm a golf professional at an upscale daily fee golf course in Keller, TX. We are located about 30 minutes from the "Death Star", as it's affectionately known around these parts. Sky Creek Ranch is running a special for Huskers Only. We will waive our advanced booking fee for Nebraska fans that are looking for something to do while in the DFW area. Mention that you saw this on Huskerboard and make a tee time. Wear some Husker gear when you come out to play and we will throw in a sleeve of Pro-V1s. 50% off rental sets for the travelling Husker, if a tee time is made before Dec. 1st. We are going to treat the Husker golfer right all weekend, Friday, Saturday before the game and Sunday as well.

Our rates are $79 plus tax Friday, Saturday and Sunday. $59 plus tax Monday through Thursday. Fee includes green fee, cart fee and range balls.

Sky Creek Ranch is a Robert Trent Jones Jr. layout that is in immaculate condition right now. We have bent grass greens that are the among the best in DFW, private clubs included. Check out www.skycreekranch.com to get a preview of our facility. (817) 498-1414 #2 is the number to the golf shop.

We are also close to Southlake, where there is some very nice shopping in Southlakes' town square. Drop the non-golfers off there to shop, drive on down another 5 minutes to the course and tee it up before Mr. Suh and company tees off on Pony McCoy.

    GO HUSKERS!

    :w00t:koolaid2:

  6. Wow! I think he'll get an idea just how passionate Husker fans are. If he likes attention, I'm betting he's getting more than he bargained for. I'm curious if being close to his girlfriend is the main reason for him moving to Lincoln. And if it is, can we get her a scholarship, somehow? Does she play volleyball or softball or basketball? Hell, do cheerleaders get schollys?

  7. Haven't heard anything of Robinson in recent weeks, except he may not qualify academically. Any reports on game performance or grades?

From what I've read in local papers, he didn't start for Trinity after he got hurt. Even when he got healthy, they started a junior named Tevin Williams. He still got PT in games, just didn't start. He did well when he got the chance. Trinity has pretty good trench warriors, though.

  8. Texas has about 2 spots left for '09 and they already have Chris Whaley committed along with being 4 deep, even after Jamaal Charles left. In addition, Texas doesn't really go for the big bruisers anymore. The last one that they had was Ricky Williams and he was recruited by the former regime.

  9. When I think of the authorities around the whole Dallas metro area, Integrity does not come to mind. In fact, integrity is pretty low on the list of things I do think of. Corruption and Abuse are two words that do come to mind, though. Things have been known to get somewhat twisted in the process of seeing what shakes out. Pool Chalk or Cocaine...... I won't comment on race relations, I only lived there for 3 years.

I wish him luck and hope that he's a good kid. He could really help the team and future Texas recruiting.

  10. Texas has a special position on their staff specifically to handle all high school coach contacts, as well as be a liason between the university and the recruit when he committs and eventually signs. Ken Rucker : Director of High School Relations and Player Development. He's not technically a coach. Almost all of the high school coaches have a relationship of one kind or another with UT/Mack Brown. So the kids hear "Good job, Kid. Ya might make the Longhorns someday playin' like that!" So Mr. Rucker has contact with state high school coaches, coordinates camps, knows the coaches who know the players. So it's like they all(most) grow up wanting to be shorttusks and Mack chooses the ones he wants. That is known to high school players, of which there many in Texas. "You better sign soon, there's four more waiting for the chance I'm giving you, now." Next thing you know, Texas has only 5 or 6 spots left for '09.

  11. UT spring game is this weekend, and there are several recruits attending. New DC Will Muschamp is generating some excitement around here. He has some athletes to work with. Also, their early recruiting is looking very strong. So far:

    Garrett Gilbert QB 6-3/186 5*

    Tariq Allen LB 6-2/230 4*

    Thomas Ashcraft OL 6-5/280 4*

    Marcus Davis DB 6-1/185 4*

    Alex Okafor DE 6-4/216 4*

    Greg Timmons WR 6-3/193 4*

    Chris Whaley RB 6-3/220 4*

Just to name a few higher profile guys.

Does anyone remember this? This is a textbook chop block.

    OUCH! That had to hurt.

  12. We were viewed as a run/option team during Colt's recruitment?...

for most of it, yeah, the recruiting process began with him long before BC....I don't think anyone really thought Nebraska would really turn into a passing team...after all, our whole tradition was built on the run and option. Our QB's were great athletes, usually not looked at as passers. And like I said, I think his Dad had already groomed him to go to Texas so it didn't take much for them to get him.

Texas was viewed as a run option team at the time, also. Vince Young would not be considered a pocket passer. Greg Davis gets lots of heat for his unimaginative offenses. Think about the style of play Texas has had the past few years, before Colt, QB in shotgun formation, zone read. That was about it when Vince was QB. I think Colt McCoy is overrated, and Davis can't think of any other way to use him effectively. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a good kid and decent player, I don't see UT as an elite team with him. Look for Mack to regress back to his two QB thing with the emergence of soph John Chiles. Apparently, Chiles is lighting up Spring ball. Colt is percieved as....well.....lets just say no one is confusing him with Chuck Norris. He was a big surprise his freshman year. After UT lost out on Ryan Perriloux, it was almost a given that UT would struggle offensively for a year or two until they landed another VY-like athlete at QB. McCoy played High school ball at West BFE, and had zero expectations of him when he came to college. He definitely exceeded all expectations.

This is one reason why I'm looking for Kody Spano to turn some heads. Texas highschool football is tough. He was successful, and seems to be very motivated to continue his success. We'll see. :restore

  13. "Mack Brown doesn't lose in-state early commits. These guys pretty much always stick. OOS commits is a different story, but I can't even remember one that decommitted except those that were avid depth chart watchers, which Whaley isn't"-sessamoid

He has lost a few. Ryan Perriloux ditched at the last second. Not in-state, but pretty high profile. Also, there was a decommit several years ago that made room for Chris Simms. He does fill up pretty early, and most of those do sign, you never know. We have made some inroads into the Texas talent pool. If NU can be successful, compete in every game and win more than we lose, there is no reason to believe that we can't pull some of these players to NU.
