In my opinion..... Andre Jones was BY FAR the weakest link on the D last year!!!
The USC game definitely highlighted his inexperience and lack of size. I think Grixby was often in the right spot, but just couldn't make the play.

Go tell 'em we got Will Compton too.
Sorry to go a bit off subject, but Ive heard about Will Compton alot, who is he?
Our new **** linebacker recruit.
class of 2007?

Good kid, bad QB.
I still have flashbacks to that fourth down play when he stepped out of bounds well before the first down marker to end the game against So. Miss. I was dumbfounded, I had to look at my brother who was watching with me and say "did that just happen? We just lost on that play?" Definitely a good kid, just not cut out to be a QB.
Or how about when he threw a screen pass to their DE. Or his multiple fumbles...
Yeah, what nightmare of a season that turned out to be. It really takes a certain personality to play quarterback. Needles to say he didn't have it.

I know everyone in Huskerland knows the success we had in the mid 90s was directly related to our DEFENSE and the 4-3 attack. I feel with Cosgrove we have fallen back into the craig bohl style of defense where our D is reacting and not attacking. during our NC domination tour our defense controlled the oppositions play calling and forced the issue. I feel like we are waiting for cos to learn a more advanced system or he is just to stubborn to see what has worked in the past and ignore it. I understand the talent was better, Ortiz and Farley were insanely gifted, but systems need to be practiced and incorporated to recruit need for specific positions. P.S. Grixby is probably the worst DB i have seen play defense @ NU....I would much rather see someone with better physical ability and absolutely no exp play corner.
As a response to the bulk of your original post, I will not disagree that I would like to see a more nasty defense that opposing teams fear. I think we are getting better athletes in his system.
It seems like I heard somewhere that Cos has made some sort of change to his scheme, but I couldn't confirm where I heard that. So hopefully with the experience coming our defense will dictate how the opposing offense is doing their play calling.

What if he is the best we've got (with injuries)? I won't argue that he's the weakest link out there. He's not a horrible DB from a technique view, but he's just way too undersized and gets man-handled. As far as experience, I'll disagree. I'd rather have a guy that knows where to be on a play then someone running around lost. If anything, the experienced guy will be in position to make the tackle. Playing DB is not all about physical ability. It's one of the harder positions to play.
Agreed. Shanle was supposedly very physically gifted, but was often found out of postion. I will go with experience and physical ability as a bonus.

I hate to burst everyones bubble , but according to knowledgable Mizzou fans on Tigerboard , Blaine has decommited from Nebraska and is heading to either Florida or USC. This is terrible news!
Knowledgeable Mizzou fans on their message board huh? The biased ones that hate Nebraska and wouldn't mind starting rumors if it caused some heartburn for Husker fans?

Their 97 team wouldn't have beaten our 97 team. Didn't they win by 5 points over an unranked opponent in the Rose Bowl? Didn't we stomp all over Peyton Manning in the Orange?
They beat 8th ranked Washington State 21-16. Still we were much better, crushing # 3 ranked Tennesee 42-17.

Is this the year that the system is finally in place? The McBride Blackshirts did not need overhauling, but since you junked the most productive offense in college football history, we should give you time to re-tool. So here is the question, is teh offensive skill talent on par with Texas, OU and USC? A better question might be, is it on par with Okie State? The defense front 7 is BIG, Big 10 big, but they lack the Big 12 elites speed that Texas and OU have. The secondary can't cover those teams WRs. My question, is why did the DEFENSE fall so far off, when it was the offense that was being JUNKED? Maybe it was tha Solich just could not recruit TALENT, and he had taken the entire program down, Blackshirts and all.
Com'on, out with it. Who do you really root for on Saturdays during the Fall? I smell someone from the B12 south here

None of them. Using trick plays shows that you are either desparate or of a lower caliber than the team you are playing. The CU game was a joke, and that fake punt against Auburn was a stroke of pure idiocy.
That isn't true at all. Trick plays are part of football. It keeps teams honest and keeps the entertainment value up. Osborne even tried a trick play against Florida. Don't you remember LP trying to hit Reggie Baul in the endzone on a half back pass? I don't think we were desparate or of a lower caliber in that game do you?

Actually alot of the Miami fans have said that 95 Huskers were the best ever and 2001 Miami was a close second. Not everyone is a homer. It appears that the only ones that think tOSU WAS BETTER ARE Butteye fans and one idiot Sooner fan. Everyone else has said that their is no comparison. Actually one Michigan fan said their 97 team would have beaten our 95 team.
It is really tough to argue that our '95 team isn't the best team of all time. The way we dominated that "fast" SEC defense and ate Danny Warfell's lunch, it is tough to say any other team would even hold a candle to us. tOSU Fans are just dreamers.

After the game in an interview, I remember Ganz saying Turner had dropped one in practice and so he vowed never to throw to him again. But he was just too open. So he went for the score.
-
Who was it that threw the touchdown pass to Barry Turner off the fake field goal? That was epic.
Pretty sure it was Ganz
99.9% sure

Com'on its not like we are counting chickens. We need something to talk about while we wait for the season to start.
Good for Blaine, hope he has a stellar year in Ballwin MO then waves goodbye to that state until 2 seasons from now.
-
Favorite trick play of last season would probably have to be the fake punt vs. USC. Even though it turned out to be unfruitful it was an amazing boost of energy right at the beginning of the game!
-
Ok...here is just another topic to help time pass by before season start in Sept.
What was your favorite trick play that the Huskers tried last season???
I would have to say that mine was when Taylor lifted up from center and starting walking off the feild like he was frustrated. Then they snapped the ball to Tierre Green and he ran for the first down. It even confused me!
Yeah that one was awesome

Marc May and Griese just picked Nebraska to win the North!
Christ! I may have to rethink this whole "Mark May is an idiot" thing...
Nah, he's still a tool. I am sure he's waiting to turn coat.
I agree. His compliments are like backhanded ones. It is usually "Well since nobody else is good in the North and Missouri is unproven I guess I will go with Nebraska." Give me a break! This guys has been a joke since he started on TV. He should be on QVC
-
It's all in good fun. No one can really prove anything. But it gives us something to talk about during this LONG LONG offseason.
stike that first part. It SHOULD be all in good fun. Still no sense in getting feathers ruffled over it. If I were a Miami fan, of course I would say the 2001 team was the best of all time. But of course I am a Nebraska fan that wouldn't mind debating said Miami fan

That's a huge bummer, I think he is done in the NFL. Maybe Cally might have a spot for him somewhere.
here's hoping
-
I wouldn't even give them as much chance as I give Colorado this season. Sure they beat 3 North teams last season, squeaking out a win vs. Colorado. Put them in the north and they loose at least 2 out of 5 and lose to the three south division teams they face and they still finish #4 of 6 in the North. And that is would be a very generous prediction if they were in the North.

It seems like the Arena league is a little faster paced though because of the size of the field and he can't move that well so...................
I see, that is true. I remember every time he would get in trouble and start to run everyone in the room watching would let out a GET GOIN!!!! sometimes it seemed like it was in slow motion so perhaps the Arena League wouldn't be the best for him.

I'm sure there are those with legitamate gripes with Pedersen, but really what gives? I think there are many that just jump on the hate train blind not recognizing anything SP has done as AD.
Again, I know there are some out there with legitamate gripes, and being out of state takes me out of the situation. But I remember when I was younger everyone was blasting Bill Byrne for all the horrible changes he was making. So it just kinda sounds like AD can be a thankless job.
What could possibly be "legitamate" about a gripe with SP?? What did he do wrong??
I don't know, I guess I was just giving them the benefit of the doubt thinking I was missing something by being out of state. personally I only see our program as a whole getting stronger. I see a future of better national respect.

I wonder if he could make it in the Arena League? Any thoughts? I don't know a lot about the league and what "type" of quarterbacks do well. I just know they pass a lot and he is an accurate passer. And with the shortened field they don't exactly need the "big" arm.

Baylor was 3-0 against the North last year, with more wins against the North than KSU, CU, ISU and as many as MU and KU. The guy kinda has a point.
Not much of a point. They are still weak. They only have to play 3 North teams in the year. If they were in our division they would still be bottom of the pack with ISU.
Jim Harbaugh might want to check his facts

This just shows what a poor team he thinks he has, and thus shows what a poor coach he is from that perspective.
