  1. I know that the NFL and NCAA are very different, but look at how the NFL uses officials as opposed to the NCAA. In the NFL, officials are held accountable by the league and not just a conference or division. So why in college football do the conferences get their own officials? Why can't there be NCAA-wide officiating crews?

I honestly don't know very much about this so I would appreciate it if you could enlighten me.

  2. The determination to focus on fiscal and economic issues, to the exclusion of social questions...

They might be focusing more on economic issues, but when the time comes for them to vote on legislation regarding social issues, I think they will vote the same way the Republican party has for some time. Especially regarding abortion, drugs, gay marriage, and any victimless "crime" that they can get their hand on.

  3. This isn't that new. He basically played linebacker most of last year. Even though he is pretty small for a linebacker, I would rather have him out there than guys like Martin or Whaley who are liabilities with their propensity for being out of position and not hitting the right hole on run plays.

  4. haha...oh the ol' free market. Or rather the assumed "free market" that's actually controlled by market manipulation.

    lol

In this thread we could talk about the free market versus mixed markets, but I feel that that topic has been beaten to death in previous threads and no one is going to change their mind on the matter. Maybe it would be more constructive to talk about money using different economic models. I'm not telling you what you can and can't post about, I just feel it would be better to keep this thread more focused.

Money is redundant and worthless. 'Nuff said.

As I'm sure you're well aware, people value things differently. I think that most people put a far greater value on money than you do. Since you have no use for your money you can just send it to me and I will get it off of your hands for you :)

  5. I would definitely prefer a gold standard over the current fiat money that this country uses, however, I would much prefer it if the government stopped intervening completely in fiscal policy. I agree with you that a gold standard would prevent many disastrous policies of government.

In a free market the currency would be whatever the buyer and seller happen to agree upon. Although the majority of transactions would probably involve gold, they wouldn't have to.

  6. I wouldn't mind seeing that funky Pistol Flexbone/Wishbone/Full House formation that Okie State was running last night. Especially with Helu/Burkhead/Robinson in the backfield along with Martinez. If you didn't watch the game last night between OSU and TAMU it looked like this I believe.

    O O O X O O O

    ____O O O

    ______O

I can't remember if the TE's were split out at WR's or not....VERY INTERESTING formation, and you could do ALOT of misdirection/power running out of that.

Kind of reminds me of a Power T, but only out of the Pistol and the deep back is obviously not lined up with the other backs.

I didn't get to see the whole game, so could you tell me if they had a lot of success running that?

  7. I don't think that the offense as a whole was exposed, but Martinez's passing ability was. It seemed to me that most of the players on offense barely brought forth any effort in this game which led to us only scoring 17. But even when Taylor had time to throw he was still throwing ducks out there. You can tell that he still has tremendous work to do to become an accurate passer.

  8. I don't think you can blame all of this on Watson, the offensive line played horrendously. I went to the game and I can't count how many times the defensive line ran straight into the backfield untouched or barely blocked and got a tackle for a loss.

  9. Nothing says Nebraska tradition like embarassing an opponent badly and then piling on further. Go Huskers!

Look, we're going to win the game. However, there is no reason to try to score 70 points just to show our superiority against an overmatched opponent. Also, that last comment makes you seem sadistic.

  10. My favorite part of Knapplc's post was this:

I knew someone who had a basset hound that had its hind legs removed after an accident and it had to walk around with one of those little buggies with wheels. If it had been my dog I would have asked for all its legs to be removed and replaced with wheels and had a remote control installed. I could charge neighborhood kids for rides and enter it in races. If I did the same with a horse I could drive it to work. I would call it Steven.

  11. EDIT - there's a play I've been waiting to see with this team, by the way. We used to run it all the time in the 90s, but we haven't run it for a while. Can anyone guess what it is?

The option pass? Come to think of it, I haven't seen us run very many option plays except for the zone read. Maybe we'll see more of that in conference play so we'll be able to set up the option pass play.

  12. I agree but the larger gaps between the linemen mean the the defense is more spread out. Making it easier for gaps to open up in the running game, the sacs will decrease as the season goes on and Martinez feels more comfortable in the pocket. You can see small improvemnets even within the Washington game. In the first half a blitz was comming off the right side and Martinez just looked at the blitzer untill it was too late. In the second half presure came from the same side and he kept his eyes down field, stepped up in the pocket, and completed the pass. The way we have been running the ball I wouldn't change a thing with the blocking scheme.

I agree. I saw a lot of improvement with Martinez in his pocket awareness. He's noticing who is going to blitz before the snap better than he did in the first two games.

    Mandel on the game:

Power football is officially back at Nebraska -- and with it, realistic BCS championship aspirations.

Watching the Huskers' rushing attack flat-out bulldoze upset-minded Washington on Saturday was like taking a trip back to the '90s. Nebraska racked up 383 rushing yards in a 56-21 rout (RECAP | BOX). At one point, the Huskers rushed 19 straight times for 246 yards and four touchdowns. It was exactly how Nebraska used to beat people during its heyday, though with a modern twist: Freshman quarterback Taylor Martinez (who broke an 80-yard run en route to his third straight 100-yard rushing game) operates out of the shotgun, executing the zone read with I-backs Roy Helu Jr. and Rex Burkhead much like one of Chip Kelly's Oregon quarterbacks would. (Helu Jr. and Burkhead also ran for more than 100 yards.)

The Nebraska defense did its thing, too, limiting Huskies star Jake Locker to a nightmarish 4-of-20, 71-yard, two-interception performance. (Washington can go ahead and shut down its "Locker 4 Heisman" campaign.) This was a harsh reality check for Steve Sarkisian's program, which learned it still has a ways to go in its rebuilding effort. But the more pertinent message to take away from this one is that Martinez and the Huskers are for real. That Texas game can't get here soon enough.
