  1. I guess my point is that major division 1 programs should avoid scheduling 1AA teams that are nearby or in the same state because they seem to play much better in this situation. Or, on the flip side, it could be the nearby division 1 teams who are dismissing the 1AA teams as being no match for them.

  2. James Madison beat Virginia Tech. South Dakota beat Minnesota. Jacksonville State beat Ole Miss. All of the teams that faced each other happened to be close to each other or from the same state. Does always hearing about how much better the nearby higher division team is make the 1AA schools play better? Or is this just a coincidence?

Note: I'm not including Kansas because this is the first game for their new head coach. The other teams all had established head coaches.

  3. The thing about Anderson is that he is a terrible human being. Sure, he's savvy with the media and I'm sure that he's nothing but friendly to Osborne, but I just don't understand why he does some of the things that he does with the players.

I remember when he told the media that the reason Nebraska hasn't been successful is that he refuses to oversign and this somehow puts him on a moral pedestal higher than us mere mortals who see nothing wrong in oversigning. He made it sound as if he was ethically superior to other coaches who did this every year, which is laughable. This year he got lucky by signing some draft picks, so he'll probably still be our coach for years.

  4. I think the reason that we use that play so much is that we have a young quarterback and Watson doesn't want to put more on his shoulders than he is capable of handling now. With that play there's only one read usually.

Watson probably thinks that when he calls that play, it lets his big receivers on the outside make plays because of their physicality. Also, it makes the defense play more conservatively because they don't want to be caught on a blitz and have no one in the defensive backfield to make a play - which benefits our running game.

One person that I would never like to see catch a pass like that, however, is Niles. Multiple times on passes like that he has just given up on the play even when it wasn't known whether or not it was a lateral pass.

  5. At what point do the drops, fumbles, and other mental errors get blamed on Ted Gilmore. Terrence Nunn was already brought up, Curenski Gilleyan, Niles Paul, Menelik Holt, Will Henry...the list goes on and on of talented WR that never developed MENTALLY as a player. That is exactly the problem we had with Callahan and his staff. Am I the only one that sees this connection?

Why is he still on this coaching staff if he can't take the talent NU has at WR and make them dominant?

No, you're not the only one that sees this. The problem with this program, is that there is too much loyalty. You could be absolutely terrible as a coach, but that doesn't mean that you will get fired.

Sadly, I don't think that Gilmore is the biggest problem on the staff. I reserve my judgment on Barney Cotton as an offensive line coach, but if Watson leaves NU then he will become offensive coordinator. If that happens, then you can kiss our chances of a national championship goodbye.

  6. Bill Stewart is WVU's Solich.

I agree with this. He is not a very good coach.

A few thoughts on the game:

#30 on defense for Marshall is a very good player.

WVU's offensive line is not very good, their quarterback was running for his life for a large part of the game.

Noel Devine is a stud, but that's obvious.

This was mentioned earlier in the thread, but Marshall's second touchdown should have been a touchback, the player let go of the ball before he went into the endzone.

WVU's last drive in regulation should never have happened. A WVU lineman blatantly held a defender in the end zone, which by rule is a safety, but the officials never called it.

Lastly, I never thought that WVU was a top-25 team. I think the only reason that they are rated so highly is because the voters don't know who to put ahead of them.

  7. Good call HuskersNow. BTW you have my favorite sig on all of HB. +1 :thumbs

Thanks but the credit for my sig has to go to Hack, who I borrowed it from.

Also, it appears that every one of the PPV games will appear again on Fox Sports Midwest. So that's something to keep in mind.

  8. I think T-Mart was the first Husker QB to rush for over 100 yards since Lord (some of you stat diggers PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong)-when was the last time we had a QB rush for over 100 yards back to back and when was the last time a Husker QB rushed for over 200? I really think Bo will have the D prepped for these guys, our LB's and Hagg will be vastly improved in stopping the run AND being prepared for those short crossing routes over the middle (I think someone said alot of Bump and Run coverage will help throw-off the timing too) and I see Big Red winning by 25+.

No cursing is allowed on huskerboard.com...........................Just to read the word Lord, makes me wanna puke.

I don't understand why people still bag on Lord. He was our best option at quarterback when he started for us and it's not his fault that his head coach was terrible and called a qb run every other play. The criticism should really go to Frank Solich who decided to put a guy who would've been a good running back at quarterback and thus practically eliminate our passing game.

  9. If the reasons that I heard for Lee being in the doghouse are true, then I think I've lost a lot of respect for Pelini. But, I will always support this program even if I don't agree with everything that the head coach is doing.
