  1. One of my dearest friends, well-knowledged in football (Chief season ticket holder), always says:

"On any given day, any team can beat any other team."

On Saturday, Big Red can and will beat "THEE" team...it just has to be so. AMEN.

I said this in another post, and I repeat myself here: I thought I'd never see the day when my college football team would post a better record than "Meechigan". FIRE UP CHIPS and GO BIG RED!!

  2. Does anyone else think this is a stupid tread topic? I mean, the thing is, Nebraska ISN'T in the Pac 10 and never will be! So what's the point?

I've never fallen into these stupid comparisons as they are pointless. Better to talk about reality than "what-ifs".

Reality: NU needs to step it up, like, ten steps to beat sc... I belive they can do it though, and that will shut everyone up...wouldn't silence be a nice "sound" for once????

I can almost hear it...utter silence from Brisol... Or maybe the soft munching sound of Herbstreit eating his words!

  3. ...and blondes from Nebraska are smart...

Husker fans!!! It's on baby...and were coming down there with our latte's and blonde haired women and giants of a football team to show you two things. 1. Championship Football and 2. Good looking women.

And by the way inorder for you guys to win a Championship you have to get players from Cali: Abdul Mahammud, Lawrence Phillups, Marlon Lucky, Sam Keller,Thunder Collins, Amand Green and much more...so We still win when you win.... and Callahan is a Joke!!!

Much respect to you husker fans butt when you guys got away from running the football for the pass it has been all down hill for you...where are the Calvin Jones of the world...you know the great husker running backs. USC has 10 running backs and one just transferred to florida. you guys used to be a running school and all you can get is one running back that we did not want in Lucky?? how the might have fallen. As far as your Big 12 Championship hopes....you better beat Oklahoma and stop worring about SC...they just put Miami on their backs...

    ...and Nebraska blondes are smart...

See ya Saturday in Linclon for the big Red blow out!!! or on http://allaccess.am570radio.com/forum/viewtopic.one?id=51931 to hear what more Husker fans have to say about saturday's game.

That's cute. We have blonde women too if it means anything.

  4. After Saturday's game at Wake Forest, I must say that the Huskers will have trouble against USC. Now, I've been a Husker fan a lot longer than most of you (as I have been a fan for 50 years), so don't accuse me of being disloyal! The Huskers will have to bring their AAA game and hope USC suffers from jet lag or something...

  5. We play Ball State?

    j/k

Hey, I had the same reaction! Nebraska actually asked Ball State to come out for a game????? What's up with the Big 8 (I KNOW I KNOW...but it will ALWAYS be the Big 8 to me!) wanting to play the MAC?!! Hey, I'm not complaining as it's good for the conference of my alma mater, but I never figured Nebraska would ever play a "cream puff". I haven't seen them yet this year...my team will see them Oct. 6. It's been a couple decades since they've had a good team. You shouldn't have a lick of trouble with them.

Wow, what a dilemma...I'm a grad of a MAC school and one of their conference cohorts, which is also the alma mater of the women who hired me on my current fabulous job, is playing against my beloved BIG RED team...

  6. COOL! An FCA connection!! :)

Big Appalachian State upset no shock to T.O.

"I had met Jerry at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes camp in Colorado," Osborne said. "I really liked him. We talked a lot of football, and he seemed like a bright young guy who was doing well."

  7. I see that "puke" logo on your post...has "puke"s football team EVER won against a good football team??? LOL

I think tearing down the goal post is one of the things that makes college football so great. The pure emotion that the fans show after their team upset a higher ranked team. I understand the whole "act like we have been there before" but when was the last time that we beat a #1 team at home while we were outside the top ten and probally double digit underdogs. Its been awhile.

  8. CMU seems to perenially have trouble with night games. It's been that way for years and I just don't know why. I remember when KU was horrible in football...not so anymore, I guess!

I thought being MAC champs that my guys had a good shot at KU...oh well. But I sure didn't expect the tatooing we got! WOW - what will My Team look like after Clemson! YIKES!!!

Oh well, there are a lot of big holes that needed filling: Joe Staley, Dan "Buzz" Bazuin (a farmer who's built like a great Nebraska lineman!), and Drew Mormino.

i think KU is turning a corner too. but let's not use words like 'legit' and 'guru' until you play a quality opponent. i'm sorry but CMU just isn't that great.

and planning on beating KSUcks by thinking a player (Freeman) will play bad instead of you guys playing good, well...that's not how a legit team earns respect. they dominate them.

KU is on the rise, but when you're rising from the bottom, it's still a long way up.

  9. Uh..."Meechigan" was looking forward to their ...ahem... "real" games and look what happened to them. NEVER LOOK AHEAD!!!

    <ahem> Wake Forest.

    This weekend.

    Just thought you'd forgotten.

We didnt forget were just looking ahead. Likle somebody else said we are able to do that since we are just FANS and we dont play or decide who wins so why does it hurt for us to look ahead? It doesnt.

  10. The biggest rival of my alma mater is Western Michigan. The difference between our game and other major rival games is EVERYONE gets together after the game and parties - CMU and Western fans alike. It's a friendly hated rival...no trashing of cars or fans, or anything like that. Usually you see brown and gold mixed in with the Maroon and Gold all over the stadium. This is mostly because so many CMU students have friends that attend Western.

Kinda stupid to beat up the car of your best friend even if they are a hated Bronco, ya know??? But then, maybe Colorado-ians (???) are stupid??!!!

Some stadiums, they are just jerks - and drunk jerks at that. I find it rediculous when people get offended when you're rooting for your team when it's their opponant. Everyone has the right to root for whatever team they want to root for - and if it's your opponent du jour, well, so be it. This happened to me a lot when I lived in Kansas City. I'm a Tigers fan (and Pistons, and Lions, and RedWings), and those stupid Royals fans were mad at me because I didn't root for the Royals! They actually believed that since I lived in Kansas City, I had to root for the local teams. Sheesh!!

I hate... I MEAN HATE notre dame (no caps on purpose as a sign of total disrespect). Their starting QB last Saturday is this great kid from Chicago who I met at a dinner a couple years ago. Now, I rooted for n.d. to lose, but rooted FOR Demetrius. But I would never trash the car of an n.d. fan...throw up on it, but never trash it. LOL!!

  11. Since there was some consensus in this thread topic about rooting for the opposing teams, I just wanted some clarification if that were true of ALL opponents, including hated Oklahoma and Colorado. I didn't expect there would be confusion on this...sorry!

I just know that after the biggest upset in college history, the celebrating in East Lansing, Michigan continues...that's what you do with your most hated rival.

  12. Herbstreit is from Ohio, and played football there...explanation enough for the extreme idiot that he is.

Buckeyes suck...almost as much as Okies. Ohio is the next to last worst state in the US. OK comes in last.

    Defense First:

    1. Fast, extremely fast. Flying around. Octo is a game changer and so IMO is Dillard. Saw a lot more of Dillard than i expected.

    2. A lot of rotation which is nice. Valuable experience. Both drives of any consequence by nevada happened when we had mostly our second unit in.

    3. Bowman looked real good. when he was in i watched him specifically. In coverage his man was never open. He will be back soon. Grixby, wasnt really challenged but the one time he was it was same sh#t different day. He forgot to look for ball. Murillo was shaky as well.

    4. d line had a lot of interchangeable parts and performed exceptionally well.

Overall very solid. I eat crow in my pre season assesment about defensive team speed and run stopping ability.

    Offense:

    1. Keller - cant really judge much. Bad pass on the pick but it happens to everyone at some point. Some big drops by WR. Made a couple of throws that Taylor would not have even contemplated making.

    2. Lucky - I said all preseason that he was the man. That he could carry the load, that he would have a breakout year. That he was capable of 2000 total yards. Dont care who we played, he hit the holes hard and fast and was real good in the 2nd and 3rd levels.

    3. Castille - great compliment to lucky. Damn he is big and Agile. very impressive

    4. Glenn - an afterthought IMO

    5. WR - nice to see the youngsters in there. Thank Heavens Purify is back. Nothing has changed with NUNN and Hardy Cant Catch, so i hope the youngsters continue to improve.

    6. - O line was AWESOME. Keller could take a nap in the pocket on pass plays. Holes were huge on run plays. Even the second unit was dominant

    Special Teams

    1. Adi NUFF SAID

    2. Punt coverage and Kick coverage and Kick Returns looked better. Punt returns still a mess and will be as long as Nunn stays back there. A lot of bad decisions by him.

Overall i was very impressed and am very excited for this Saturday and the Saturdays to come.

I leave you with a fat mans words of wisdom

  13. Yes, I'm Half-Husker, but my Mom attended Michigan State. I'm a self-proclaimed surrogate alumni of MSU. Even though I'm from Michigan, and I ordinarily root for "Meechigan" (except against any MAC schools and of course, Michigan State), I took some delight in the loss to App. State!

Just wish my alma mater had a better showing in Lawrence...<sigh>

What most folks don't realize is App. State is two-time national champions of I-AA. OK, OK I already hear y'all about 2-A schools...but I know Wolverine football well enough to know they expedted a total cream-puff in App. State. They're looking ahead to the Big Game (against State) and to the Ohio St. game, and that's where the coaching staff failed their players. College coaches, live and learn!!

I hope I can see some Nebraska games this year...

  14. I totally agree. The Polls are rediculous! What's more, USC came out on pre-polls as number one?!!! I'm sorry, but isn't the number one team (as much as I HATE FLORIDA) still number one until they lose???

Polls are for gamblers...straight up. And fodder for media. Otherwise, the rest of us normal, sports-loving folks should just IGNORE them.

  15. In listening to the Band's version and the Men's Choir version, Jarred, I can hear that some of the notes are different between what the Band plays and what you guys sing. So interesting to learn there are various versions out there!

I like the tune to "Hail Varsity" very much...almost as much as my own fight song, "The Fighting Chippewa"

    http://www.alumni.cmich.edu/images/fights.mp3

Wow I do so appreciate this! I'm re-noting the piano arrangement that the Sec'y of bands emailed me to match the current version of "Hail Varsity"

part of your problems may be because that version cited above isn't what matches what I have sung:

    Hail to the Team,

Hail to the Scarlet and Cream,

    Cheers for a victory,

Echo our loyalty, So on mighty men,

    We're gonna triumph again,

    Fight on for Victory,

Hail to the men of Nebraska U.

I am in the Men's Choir at UNL and that's kinda our song, so I'll see if I can find our music or a recording of us. There are many versions of this song.

  16. Jarred04 - since you're in Men's Choir, do you know??

    :woo

    :hellloooo

    Ok..Raise your hands.

How many of you even knew there were words to this one?

After listening to it with words (For the 1st time) they need to shorten the last line.

I 1st thought you meant the Dear Old Nebraska U (There Is No Place Like Nebraska)

There is no place like Nebraska,

    Dear old Nebraska U.

Where the girls are the fairest,

    The boys are the squarest,

Of any old school that I knew.

There is no place like Nebraska,

    Where they're all true blue.

    We'll all stick together,

    In all kinds of weather,

    For dear old Nebraska U.

Still got my "Sidetrack" T-Shirt with the lyrics

Wish I could see that BK commercial with Tom Osborn Singing it.

:woo I knew the words! I think we learned it in grade school.........years ago!

They have changed one line. "The boys are the squarest" actually only changed the last word. Anyone remember it ? :)

    GBR!!!

  17. Wow I do so appreciate this! I'm re-noting the piano arrangement that the Sec'y of bands emailed me to match the current version of "Hail Varsity"

  18. I contacted the music department, and the Staff Secretary of Bands Emailed me the music to "Hail Varsity" that they had in piano arrangement. I now know how the words go with the music! She also told me that "Dear Old Nebraska" is what is played after TDs, so I'm learning both songs. I have them down pretty good now. I've never been to a home game (it is one of my life's goals - wish me luck!) so I just don't know the football routines. My alma mater has it's regular fight song, and we have "Hail To The Chippewa". I think it's really cool that our two schools have both a fight song and a "Hail" song!

Wish we could've done better against KU...<sigh>
