  1. Nebraska wins S4 25-20 to win the match 3-1. Some communication issues at times and the first set especially would have been a lot closer if Texas hadn't killed themselves with service errors, but a pretty good match all around for Nebraska. Killer match for Delano. Also some nice play from Broekhuis. We'll need her to be clicking by tournament time so it's good to see her stepping up today.
  2. Broekhuis is having a pretty good match today. That's good to see. :-)
  3. Nebraska takes the first set 25-20. Texas with quite a few service errors, and their passing woes continue.
  4. #13 Texas (8-4 overall, 3-1 Big 12) at #3 Nebraska (13-1 overall, 5-0 Big 12) When: Saturday, October 2nd, 3:30pm CT Where: NU Coliseum, Lincoln, Nebraska TV: FSN (national broadcast!) Video Webcast: NONE Audio Webcast: CLICK HERE Live Stats: CLICK HERE Texas fell out of the top 10 two weeks ago for the first time in 62 weeks of the poll. After losing two stars to graduation (Destinee Hooker and Ashley Engle) who led the Longhorns to the NCAA Championship game where they lost in five sets to powerhouse Penn State, Texas also lost a #1 national recruit (Bailey Webster) to injury before the season started. The Longhorns are super-talented but struggling to find their identity this season, and have had persistent passing problems. However, they are talented enough to challenge anybody on any night, and knocked off #9 Iowa State in their last match. This will be a good test for a Husker team that is plagued with slow starts in matches this season.
  5. JJohnson had shoulder surgery in the offseason and his throwing mechanics changed. We'll probably find out when the season's over that his shoulder isn't fully healed.

  6. One thing to note is that if you are wanting to port your old number, Virgin Mobile was really slow at it for a while (sometimes taking several days)...not sure if they've improved that by now or not. It wasn't an issue for me since I decided to just start with a new number, I didn't really care about porting my old number over. Also, I bought the LG Rumor Touch which is a good phone with a nice keyboard but Virgin Mobile does lock it down quite a bit so you can't download third party apps except for Opera Mini. You can probably find it for less than $130. VM is also just now coming out with the Samsung Intercept on this plan which supposedly will be able to load more third party apps but also will be around $250.
  7. I'm with Virgin Mobile (Sprint network)...they have a $25 per month prepaid plan that includes 300 minutes of talk, unlimited text, and unlimited data. If you buy a top-up card online you can avoid sales tax so the actual charge is really $25, there are no additional fees like with most contract plans. Customer service is meh, but I've only had to call them once. Data access on my phone is occasionally spotty but I don't use it all that much anyway. I was on a Sprint contract plan for many years until I saw the light that prepaid is a cheaper option for most people. My wife's phone costs us about $4 a month on PagePlus (Verizon network). She uses 80-100 talk minutes per month and doesn't text. PagePlus has a $29.99 prepaid plan that includes 1200 minutes of talk, 1200 texts, and 50MB data. You can avoid sales tax and all fees through this plan, it's a good choice if you like Verizon coverage.
  8. #3 Nebraska (12-1 overall, 4-0 Big 12) at Oklahoma (10-4 overall, 2-1 Big 12) When: Wednesday, September 29th, 7pm CT Where: McCasland Field House, Norman, Oklahoma TV: None Video Webcast: CLICK HERE (subscription required) Audio Webcast: CLICK HERE Live Stats: CLICK HERE Oklahoma is in the "also receiving votes" section of the AVCA poll. The Sooners fell in straight sets to #10 Iowa State in their last match on Saturday, ending a six match win streak. Senior Sarah Freudenrich’s .404 hitting percentage is second-best in the Big 12 and 21st best in the nation. (Brooke Delano is tops in the conference at .415 to put her at 10th in the nation.) The Huskers last visit to Norman a year ago was marred by excessive heckling (including some Sooner women's basketball players), which led to changes in the student section seating. Students are no longer allowed to sit in the front row.
  9. Get the new KRNU guy! /pitchforks

  10. Well, it looks like the lack of practice time on the Baylor court didn't hurt anything. Nebraska cruises in the first set 25-19.
  11. #4 Nebraska (11-1 overall, 3-0 Big 12) at Baylor (7-6 overall, 0-2 Big 12) When: Saturday, September 25th, 7pm CT Where: Ferrell Center, Waco, Texas TV: None Video Webcast: CLICK HERE (subscription required) Audio Webcast: CLICK HERE Live Stats: CLICK HERE Baylor opened Big 12 play with two losses against ranked opponents, #12 Texas and #10 Iowa State, and three of their other losses were against ranked teams in a tournament in Minnesota a few weeks ago, where they played #14 Minnesota, #16 Northern Iowa, and #19 Dayton. The Bears lead the Big 12 in digs per set, with outstanding defense from libero Caitlyn Trice. There are no Nebraskans on the Baylor roster, but junior setter Brittany Ridenour is from Council Bluffs, Iowa. Brittany Ridenour
  12. Well, I missed all but the last part of the 4th set since it was daughter's "Meet the Teachers" night at school. What was the problem in the first set? Poor passing? Did Mueller start? I haven't looked at the individual stats yet. It's still a long way to the tournament and I expected the 6-2 to be a little clunky for the first half of the season. One thing about the 6-2 is that with all the subs it is sometimes difficult to get in a groove, could be a reason for the slow starts. Still a couple of months to iron out the kinks.
  13. RE: Husker volleyball...for those outside Nebraska, see link to FREE video webcast in the Huskerboard volleyball forum!

  14. Kansas (10-3 overall, 1-1 Big 12) at #4 Nebraska (10-1 overall, 2-0 Big 12) When: Wednesday, September 22nd, 7pm CT Where: NU Coliseum, Lincoln, Nebraska TV: NET (local only) Video Webcast: CLICK HERE (FREE!) Audio Webcast: CLICK HERE Live Stats: CLICK HERE Kansas is a young team; 12 of the 19 players on the Kansas roster are freshmen or sophomores. They lost in four sets to Kansas State in the conference opener, then beat Texas A&M in five sets. The Jayhawks are led by senior OH Karina Garlington, who had 27 kills against Winthrop in four sets on September 10th to lead the Big 12 with the most kills in a single match so far this season. Nebraskans on the Kansas roster MB Jessie Allen, Phillips, Nebraska (Aurora HS)
  15. 6-3 OH/MB Nicole Walch from Stuart, Florida verbally committed to the Huskers last night. She plays club ball with TCVB and is a junior at Martin County HS, which won the Florida 5A State Championship last year and currently has a win streak of 33 matches. Her older sister Elise is a star in the making as a freshman on the Wisconsin volleyball team. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ms-LYud93qw
  16. Every now and then when I see Payton Manning I think back to what we did to him in the '97 Orange Bowl. I smile... Yeah, we red-x'ed the hell out of him!!
  17. Thanks to an $88 million donation from a hockey fan, Penn State will build an on-campus hockey arena and have Division 1 men's and women's hockey programs. Penn State will be the sixth Big Ten school to have a hockey program. Since six teams are required by the NCAA to form a conference, it is now likely that hockey will become a Big Ten sport. Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State, and Wisconsin have varsity hockey teams that are members of other conferences. (Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State play in the Central College Hockey Association, and Minnesota and Wisconsin are members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.) LINK
  18. Michelle Miller got playing time in a couple of sets tonight. My daughter thought that was pretty cool. Huskers took care of business.
  19. Pretty much going as it should...which is good to see. :-)
  20. Cut away from the Huskers to show the ASU/Wisconsin game on BOTH ABC and ESPN2. The terrorists have won.
