  1. Hey All,

I was listening to 1620 the Zone this afternoon and the boys were talking about an event planner who is going around to many of the universities and planning something called 'Grid Iron Bash'. The event is described as an event "which will take place the eve before Spring Games -- April 18 -- at top college football schools across the country. Gridiron Bash (football’s equivalent to March Madness) will broaden the fan experience to include a live concert, interactive fan area, giant pep rally, chalk talks/autograph sessions with school football legends, a truncated practice, and a $1.75 million scholarship award contest."

Do you think this would go at UNL? Some of the Big 12 teams have already signed up (Texas A & M, K-State) They have big named performers (i.e. Fergie, Goo Goo Dolls, Alan Jackson to name a few). Mike Severe said it sounded like a great idea for our spring game. Any opinions?

  2. Hey All,

I just heard on 1620 'The Zone' that Collin Okafor has decided to stay at Nebraska! Good News for us!! I also heard that Marlon Lucky should be coming back for his senior year as well. Kevin Kugler said that Okafor spent alot of time with Marlon Lucky this weekend.

Fall 2008 can't get here soon enough!!

    GO BIG RED!

    Luke 2:6-11

"In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."

  4. NOTE: This seems to be a joke. I don't see it on ESPN or elsewhere yet.

LOS ANGELES - In an unexpected move, USC head football coach Pete Carroll announced his retirement from coaching late Wednesday.

Although Carroll declined to give details on his decision to step down, an unidentified source close to the coach gave some insight.

“Coach was still pretty shook up about that Stanford loss,” the source said. “There were times I’d come into his office in the weeks after that game and he’d be watching the tape of the last two minutes on a continuous loop, and he’d be rocking back and forth in his chair and crying a little.”

I checked the USC official board and there isn't anything on there about a retirement except that one of their players won defensive player of the year. The report is bogus.

  5.

Thanks. After I wrote that post, I found an article in the Omaha World Herald sports section this evening with Gill saying the same thing. Osborne said it was the hardest call he ever had to make but Gill was ok with it because he saw that he was needed at Buffalo and it just wasn't time for him to be a head coach anywhere else but where he is right now. Good Man, that Gill.

  6.

looks like you'll get bo sooner than later.

What planet have you been visiting?

its called "real world, just because i want something to happen dosen't mean it will" world. regardless of what you're hearing right now bo pelini is in his office off skip bertman drive... and will be unless "the above mentiond" takes place. at least until jan. 8th

Ummm sorry friend but Bo Pelini was announced as the Head Coach for Nebraska last Sunday afternoon. (December 2nd @ 4:00 p.m.) You're a little behind the times.

  7. Does anyone have any information? Has anyone heard if Turner will be staying at Buffalo or if another university is picking him up?

Another university is picking him up. 8) :restore

With the interview I saw on TV with Gill, not being able to hide that little smile.. I knew something was up.

Did some home work... and you'll be happy!

BRING BACK HERBIE! <--- This would complete the HUSKER NATION 2008!

You Tease You! Do tell all! Inquiring minds want to know!!! LOL

  8. It's a lot better than Callahan spitting on the field every 5 seconds. I even wrote him a letter asking him to stop spitting on national TV.

Besides Callahan's spitting, the nervous tick he did with his mouth needed to be stopped, even if he had to get counseling in order to quit it. It was one of those things that you didn't notice until someone pointed it out to you that bothers the $hit out of you.

I always wondered if he had TMJ syndrome (Tempro mandibular Joint syndrom) People that have that have difficulty opening their mouths. It drove me nuts as well!

  9. But after a 21-14 win Saturday over Tennessee in the Southeastern Conference title game and losses later by then-No. 1 Missouri and No. 2 West Virginia, LSU jumped to the second spot in the BCS standings Sunday.

It will play Ohio State Jan. 7 the national title in New Orleans.

    http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=1200...;u_sid=10199612

Interesting. After the interview either Dave Weber or Ross Jerstrom commented that now that LSU is number 2 and could be playing for the national championship, Bo is mulling over whether to go back and coach it. Would NU allow him to do that? I think it would be a nice thing for him to be able to do but I'm wondering if his workload here is so large that he won't have time to do it? What do you all think?

  10. asked by Osborne to be present at the press conference today. He was in the crowd.

Sean Callahan speculates he could be hired on as an administrator of sorts.

Regardless of what you think of him as a commentator he always and I mean always spoke graciously about the University of Nebraska.. He trusts and respects TO so much....

Oh yeah, bringing back the family

Yeah, HUSKER FAMILY (No more Husker Nation!!)

  11. I sure hope that we NU fans react better with the new coaches and treat them better than we did the last coaches.

I've only been a fan since '70, but the longer I am, the more diverse our fanbase seems to be..(Probably due to reading so many more "Anonomous" posts as opposed to talking by the water cooler or bar.

I think..As a Whole..We pretty much reflect our coaching staff.

If the Head guy is respectful of our opponents, and generally behaves like a good person (And WINS!).

We seem to follow his lead.

Little things like "Throat slashes", or calling other fan bases "Effin something or others" probably bring out some of the sides of us we'd not like others to see...Probably growing up seeing players like Terell Owens or even That FSU cornerback that went on to play for Dallas..Can't seem to remember his name, now.."Prime time something"..Has taken to influencing some of the newer crowd.

So..In answer to the original Question..."Depends on the Coaching staff".

(No body gets a free pass).

    What excellent insight! Thanks!

  12. He thanked Frank Solich numerous times. That showed a tremendous amount of class. I may have been harsh on him but he showed me something in the press conf. I'm on board the Pelini bandwagon(unless he gets into a fist fight with another coach during the post game meeting then I reserve judgement). Its done Bo is the Coach. Let all bygones be bygones and judge him on his job as coach.

I, too, am now on the Pelini bandwagon. My first choice was Turner Gill, however, Bo is the one that Tom picked and I trust Tom.

I was very impressed by the fact that Bo shared how he has grown. His passion for football was a scary point for me because I didn't feel like we needed someone who was going to go ballistic on the sidelines. The interview showed that he has grown. He answered some very tough questions and did so in a straight forward manner and somewhat shrewdly in my opinion.

Bo also gave us a new name. We are no longer 'Husker Nation' but 'Husker Family' I like that much better.

Welcome Home Bo. Best wishes for a new career.

  13. Bo Pelini is more then likely going to be announced as coach at 4 and i am nevous about it. He has an unproven record in my book and very little nebraska ties. I do believe that he is a great defensive co and would be a great asset in a role such as that but as headcoach im leary. I trust TO though and know he didnt come to this decison based on fans opinions. He did it because he believes he is the best man for the job. I still think turner gill would be better but i have no coaching experience so i half to rely on the greatest coach of all time to trust the decision makeing.

The one thing i do hope is that the naysayers dont think tom choose bo because of his skincolor. There are people out there like that. Think about a bunch of nebraksans want only a white coach as a leader.

What the hell New T Shirt Idea

    Bo Knows

    Nebraska

I'm nervous too and was disapponted because I wanted Turner Gill as our next head coach. However, as my husband pointed out, Dr. Tom picked the coach HE thought was best. If Gill had been the best then Coach O would've picked him. Dr. Tom knew what was best for Gill AND Gill might've shared with Dr. Tom that he wanted to stay at Buffalo and wasn't ready to move on to a bigger responsibility as well. THAT made me feel so much better.

So if it is indeed Bo, then welcome home. If it's Turner, I can say the same thing, Welcome Home! (One can always hope! :)

Thanks everyone for such great discussion. This board is da bomb!

  14. As we look forward to a new head coach for our beloved Huskers, I'm wondering if the fans are ready to be 'new fans'. I've seen a very ugly side of people who call themselves 'Husker Fans' that I hope I don't ever see again. I hope that whoever comes in, even if it is someone who has been here before, we will be the 'best fans in the nation' once again, not a bunch of whiners and complainers.

Anyway, just food for thought. The new coach and the players old and new are going to need all the support we can give them. Are we up to supporting them, Husker fans?

    :bonez:hellloooo:hellloooo:bonez

I re-read this again to see if my original thoughts about it were just a knee jerk reaction to something I disagreed with. Nope I don't think so.

TLS@ sounds so Soccer Mom. Lets make sure everyone gets a trophy, even the team that went 0 and 12.

That way they will know its OK to lose. Lets make sure that no one is offended in any way.

Sorry, I hate losing. Sorry, I hate the other team "because they play so good." I wanted Cally and Cos gone in the worst way because of what they were doing to the Huskers. Did I support them through the first three years, absolutely. Did I support them while streak after streak after streak ended until the only one left is the one that belongs to the fans, The Sell Out Streak, it hurt but yes I did. Will I support the new coach and his staff, completely and without question. Has my support for the team ever waivered, Not One Damn Bit.

I am an old time Husker fan and always will be and there are thousands and thousands like me. Are we all the same, no way, we all have our differences but one thing remains constant, our devotion to the University of Nebraska Football team and all Husker athletics.

The intent of my original post was to encourage REAL HUSKER FANS (which you appear to be so the post didn't apply to you...why you thought it did is beyond me?) to step up and take care of those 'bandwagon/fair weather' fans that embarrassed us this year. Weren't you in the least bit concerned when jerks made the rest of us look bad? I sure was. It was embarrassing to be on national tv as fans that 'booed' their own players (even though we knew that many people were booing the coaches NOT the players-but the players didn't know that) It was very embarrassing, not only to me but many others on this board, when coaches children were being bullied at school because of their dad's job. It was embarrassing when our own players were complaining about fan behavior. But more than embarrassing, it was just plain old SAD. I've lived through the glory days. I love being considered 'the best fans in college football' Maybe now we can put those sorry chapters behind us and get on with being a great football team again, fans included!

To TOB I don't get your post. No, I'm not a soccer mom. I'm probably older than you are, which is older than dirt, and have followed Husker football for a very long time. I bleed as red as you do so take your gloves off...we're in the same corner friend! lol

Sorry, TSL2 sometimes I just get up on a soap box and preach. The only thing my ex-wife and my present wife agree on. I live in a city with a lot of Husker come latelys so occasionally I breath fire in the wrong direction.

    Hope you are coming to:

My point exactly. If you're a true husker fan, you will support them no matter what. You won't boo them or pick on the coaches kids. THAT kind of behavior is not acceptable for true husker fans.

LSU official says it's "pretty clear" Bo is gone

A source close to the Nebraska situation says NU officials have prepared to have a press conference announcing the new head coach either Sunday or Monday.

And just for a little more evidence that the new coach will be Bo Pelini, here's a quote from Charles Weems, who is on the LSU Board of Supervisors (akin to NU's Board of Regents).

Weems told the Baton Rouge Advocate newspaper: "I think it's pretty clear and it's our idea that Bo will be the next coach at Nebraska."

Again, the source said, 'It's OUR idea...' We haven't heard anyone from our own state confirm this. The only person who CAN confirm it will on either Sunday or Monday. If it's Bo...so be it! If not that's ok too. The people that were interviewed were quality people. Any one of them could be our new coach. Can we be their new fans?? Maybe THAT is an issue we can start working on?
