  1. I haven't read all the responses, but apparently Cody Green has done the best in 7 on 7 drills during winter conditioning. That's good news. We need all these young guys to really pick it up this spring.

  2. I was able to speak to a few of the kids I know on the team. They are pretty tight lipped and only said that there will be an announcement later.

FWIW...I did find out yesterday morning that BP is going to be the new coach. All the details are needing to be hammered out b4 the announcement. Also there will be a PC later today to announce Pelini as new HC. This is why TO will be going on the recruiting trail Thurs and Friday to inform new recruits of the new coach, etc. I don't have the time for the PC, just that it will be today. The source I have has been spot on the past few month's w/regards to all that has gone down. I guess we'll see if his info is correct. :)

  3. I know some of the kids on the team. I'll try and get an update from them this evening. From what I've heard is the new HC will be named in this meeting, w/a PC to introduce the new HC tomorrow. I don't have a link, however I have connections to some high level boosters who were at these interviews. :)

Why would booster be at the interviews? Did they applaud when they liked the answers given and boo when they did'nt?

My guess is because the high level one's are putting up the money for the new HC. They have quite a bit of pull in who should be coaching and who not. :) As I said, I'll try and get in contact w/the kids I know on the team this evening and post it here if I get confirmation from them that they have been told who the new HC will be. :)

  4. What if:

TO decides to be headcoach for 1 year only. Not as head coach, but more of a CEO/mentor type.

Hire's both Gill and Pellini as coHC's. Each is responsible for his side of the ball completely. ex Hiring assistants, coaching, recruiting etc.

TO uses the year as an 1 year evaluation, able to really keep finger on the process. He promises at the end of his 1 year term, the better man will become HC, and Ozzy will step aside.

    Problems:

    1. Would Gill or Pellini accept these terms and conditions?

    2. What happens when one person is passed over for the other?

I honestly think neither Gill nor Pellini are ready to be HC in primetime, but with the correct mentoring and learning from their own mistakes would be ready in 1 year.

Very creative...but zero chance of it happening. :)

  5. Screw that you can't mix oil and water crap.....it's Bill f'n Cowher..... Pete Carroll's oil mixed okay with water..... Okay.... I understand, I don't want another pro coach either...just givin' crap....but I am a life-long, die-hard STEELER FAN !!!! who was extremely pissed when Bill retired...

talk about a guy with passion !!!!!! He would have kicked the sh#t out of 3/4 of those lazy LB's and DE's....

I hope that plane TO is on is headed east tomorrow to see Cowher !!!

See Charlie Weiss and Billy C. Carroll is just 1 of a very few who was able to make the transition smoothly.

  6. A little less than 5 years ago, two guys worked together to come up with a game plan to beat Michigan State in the 2003 Alamo Bowl.

The Huskers gave up 3 points to the Spartans who managed only 18 yards rushing on 23 carries. The Nebraska defense sacked MSU QB Jeff Smoker 5 times and came up with three pass interceptions.

The Nebraska offense tallied 17 points and 389 yards of total offense (229 yards rushing, 160 yards passing). The Huskers did not have a turnover.

Think about those numbers for a second. The defense came up with 3 turnovers and gave up only 18 yards rushing. The 2007 Huskers got one turnover in their last 7 games and I doubt any of us could count the number of individual running plays of more than 18 yards the "blackshirts" gave up this season.

OK, so the 2003 Alamo Bowl was one game. But it was one game that followed a tumultuous month of coaches and players pulling together after the firing of head coach Frank Solich.

Fast forward to November 2007. The two coaches that led Nebraska to that Alamo Bowl victory are vying for the same job, or are they? Could it be that they are going to be asked to pull the team together after the firing of a different head coach?

The guy who coached that team, Bo Pelini, has been a defensive coordinator for two very successful programs since leaving Nebraska. He is apparently very interested in coming back as head coach at Nebraska because he just took a plane ride from Louisiana to Georgia with the University President an the Athletic Director to talk it over. I wonder if the subject of assistant coaches came up?

The conventional wisdom is that Turner Gill would not leave a head coaching position for an assistant coaching job. For most guys, that would be too big of a blow to the ego. But what if the guy you worked for most of your life, the guy you asked to be the best man at your wedding, the guy you admire more than anyone in the world, asked you (on behalf of the new head coach) to come home and help rebuild their broken house? Would you do it if you knew you weren't going to be the foreman?

I know, it's a stretch. But this is Rumorville. It's the place for "what if's". Can you imagine it? Do you think Tom Osborne can imagine it? Most importantly, can Bo Pelini and Turner Gill imagine it?

Will Tom Osborne go for two?

Exactly. BP should've been the man 4 year's ago. Yes he was very green, however I think he would've been more aptly suited for NU than Billy C.

Also, for TG...coming back home to be an Asst hc and OC isn't a step down IMO. I would be willing to bet if offered that opportunity came about after not getting the HC job at NU, that he'd jump all over it. :)

  7. I know that in an earlier thread, I posted that on a "hunch", I thought TO would bring in a guy other than Bo and Turner.....but, on this topic, what about this....

I was visiting with my wife...yes, she is an avid fan who doesn't nec. want either..why I don't know, but we discussed this earlier...

What if TO wants Bo to be HC because he knows he will not accept anything less.... There is no question how TO feels about Gill.... I honestly believe that TO would "suggest" to Bo that Turner be offered the AHC and OC.... Who served as OC in the alamo bowl...was it Turner who ran the offense under Bo?

In turn, TO may sway Gill to leave his post at Buffalo to become a ACH/OC and will pay the same $, and I wouldn't be surprised if TO doesn't want to "groom" Gill to become a fantastic HC, or more realistically, TO would probably mention to Gill that he may eventually be AD at NU.....TO would love to have Gill in-house.

I know this may be a stretch, but how unrealistic is it....especially since Bo and Gill have worked together in almost the same capacity before....because of this, Bo may actually support the whole idea.

I see that as a very strong and definitely good possibility. :)

  8. Do you honestly think that Dr Tom would hire the HC AND the Assistant HC? I don't. I don't want a AD to do that! I think Osborne will hire the HC and let whoever it may be, he will let that HC hire his own staff. I read where some seem to think that Tom will hire both. I just don't see him doing that. Just my opinion of course.

TO will most likely stay out of the way of who the new HC wants. However I'll bet that part of his hiring criteria will include adding former Husker coaches to the staff to help bring back that history and tradition, etc. So yes you are correct he may not tell the new HC specifically who to hire, but would probably tell him in order to get the job they would need to be open and hire a few assistant's w/prior Nebraska ties. :) This is why I think that there are really only 2 candidates for this job....BP and TG.

Well I would NOT be a fan of that! It would be like Pud all over again! Too much control in things that he need not be in control of. Grant it I am all for tradition and such but I am not for someone spoon feeding to a coach so to speak. One thing about Bo that he has going for him, is he know's our traditions already.

    The difference is TO know's football....PUD didn't. :)

  9. Do you honestly think that Dr Tom would hire the HC AND the Assistant HC? I don't. I don't want a AD to do that! 10. Didn't see this posted anywhere else, maybe im blind because im suprised it hasn't been posted yet.

EDIT: Nevermind, i just noticed I wasnt in this sub-forum so my topic wasnt moved yet.

    From 10/11 Website

Just one day after Bill Callahan's firing, the search process for his replacement is well underway...

BO PELINI: 10/11 Husker Insider Sean Callahan has confirmed that a plane owned by Nebraska booster Richard Robinson took off from Lincoln en route to Baton Rouge this afternoon and that NU interim athletic director Tom Osborne was on-board and will talk with Pelini Sunday night.

TURNER GILL: Also, Osborne has been given permission to interview Turner Gill. This according to an interview conducted by the Buffalo News with the University of Buffalo athletic director Warde Manuel. That interview -- Manuel said -- would likely take place within the next few days.

PAUL JOHNSON: It should also be noted -- the 10/11 sports department spoke on the phone with Navy associate athletic director Scott Strasemeier who said to his knowledge - Midshipmen head coach Paul Johnson **has not** been contacted about the Husker head coaching job.

And he probably won't be either. :)

  11. FWIW--Here is yet another rumor posted on another board. :)

From a former player...Bo has "Unofficially" accepted the HC position. With TO having to wait untill after the CU game and Bo in the hunt for a possible National Championship, the announcment can't be made. But from all reports out of Lincoln by former players (who work and live in the area), Bo is the man. Don't shoot the messenger, just trying to pass on what I have been told..

    Have at it. :)

  12. We'll find out Saturday. I've said I could stand behind this scenario if it happens although I'm hoping that Callahan makes a better effort to adapt to the college game. Coz definately must be gone !

This is why Billy C won't be retained. Coz has already tried to quit once this year and Billy C flat out refused his resignation. If changes are going to be made it would have to be th AD making them and the only 1 I see that he's going to make is by giving Billy C his pink slip. No way Billy C will agree to fire coaches from his team. This will make him look like a failure. And he doesn't want that on his resume. It would give the appearance that he's not a good judge of talent where coaching is concerned. Also he would need to give up the play calling and he won't put up w/this. :(

  13. "Basically, they just told us this is a business," Peterson said. "It's about putting a product on the field and when you put the product we've put out this year, eventually there's going to be some changes. Whether it be this year, we don't know, we can't control that. They haven't talked about it too much because obviously it's not something we want to hear. But that's just the nature of the beast."

This is a quote from Todd Peterson.

  14. Absolutley not

The conversation took place this morning. But i will not give up the identites of the people i spoke with. Let me say this

-I find it funny that people say bill is a snake when we lose games but in the past when we won games people loved him. Now that we lose people tarnish his good name. He may have failed us, but we all know better than this. We should have class and not rip people we've never spoken to

-Callahan will be given 2 more years. Yes, I know. 2 more years, TO didnt say this directly but my sources said that a big 12 championship, not appearace would solidify his position for years to come.

-The players said that they sensed TO did not want Nebraska to become another Alabama funneling coaches in and out and they pointed to the current coach Saban, not getting any different results than Shula despite being paid big bucks.

Sorry man, this just isn't true. FWIW, I know 2 of the current player's on the team (1 a starter the other a top back-up). They have said that Billy C has (not in so many words) told them that he will not be back next year. That he was asked to resign and refused. That he will also not fire Coz or any of the current coaches. :)

  15. Everyone loves a winner. No surprise there.

I wouldn't go that far. How many teams were running out to recruit the best option QB's when we were dominating everyone in the mid-90's?

I think the reason the spread is so popular is the fact that some teams can't get the best talent every year. Look at West Virginia. I think they've only had 1 or 2 top 25 recruiting classes in the last 5 years. If you can't get the best, run the best offense that neutralizes the best defenses. Plus, the NFL is changing to a more mobile type QB that is adequate to good at running the ball and good to great at throwing the ball.

Who cares if the QB running it get's to the NFL? It only needs to be good enough to help win Championships at the college level. :) Look at Ganz, good college QB, doubtful if he even gets a sniff from pro scouts to be a QB let alone any other position. :( Sucks for him, but great for us.

  16. i am wondering if LSU is going to re write Miles contract and make him and offer he cannot walk away from? wouldn't surprise me at all......??

the other part of this that scares me is, not everyone looking for a new coach is going to get exactly what they want. if TO has to wait to pick a new guy until after bowl season (not saying he will, but.....) we could end up getting the shaft here. but then again surely negoitations are going to take place very soon, assuming we need a new HC? arghhhh.......

TO has already said if a coaching change is made, it'll be done after the CU game, not a bowl game if we qualify. :)
